Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who is reportedly being vetted by Donald Trump as potential running mate, was fired as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in the winter of 2014 after three decades in the military. Here he tells the real story of his departure from his post and why America is not getting any closer to winning the war on terror.
Two years ago, I was called into a meeting with the undersecretary of defense for intelligence and the director of national intelligence, and after some niceties, I was told by the USDI that I was being let go from DIA. It was definitely an uncomfortable moment (I suspect more for them than me).
I asked the DNI (Gen. James Clapper) if my leadership of the agency was in question and he said it was not; had it been, he said, they would have relieved me on the spot.
I knew then it had more to do with the stand I took on radical Islamism and the expansion of al Qaeda and its associated movements. I felt the intel system was way too politicized, especially in the Defense Department. After being fired, I left the meeting thinking, Here we are in the middle of a war, I had a significant amount of combat experience (nearly five years) against this determined enemy on the battlefield and served at senior levels, and here it was, the bureaucracy was letting me go. Amazing.
At the time, I was working very hard to change the culture of DIA from one overly focused on Washington, DC, to a culture that focused on our forward-based war fighters and commanders. It was not an easy shift, but it was necessary and exactly the reason I was put into the job in the first place.

I don’t even care that much about blowing them up. As long as they are OUT of the USA they can prey on all the euroweenies they want, as far as I’m concerned. I trust Israel to not weenie-out and to take care of themselves, with our continued financial aid, of course.
But by all means, bring all US troops home from Germany. Germany has made it clear that it is more than happy to bend over and take it long and hard from the “refugees”, so let them enjoy their new b*-of-the-world status, and stop spending US taxpayer money on them.
It used to be that the Democratic Party was mostly made up of union guys, urban dwellers, and minority groups.
My brother sat down in his company at a table with the security guards....all 60-year-old ex-Army guys who were life-long Democrats (my brother is Republican)....this was back in January.
These five or six guys all sat there and moaned over the woes of the Democratic Party, and they just weren’t going to vote for Hillary. So my brother brings Trump up, and most of the life-long democrats were identifying with Trump and ready to vote for him.
I think across the US....at least a quarter of all people who say they are working-class and long-time Democrats...are fed up with the political games, and the special interest crowd of the Democratic Party. They see Trump as a guy who might change the system, and get Congress back to operational status....building budgets...and acting in the best interest of their individual states and districts.
As the doctor says, it is not healthy to try and always hold it in.
When Trump first announced I said to myself - Hey, hasn't this guy been a life-long democrat. People are still getting to know who he is.
Many times I finished giving advice and said, “But you’re the commander...”. On a few occasions I had to say, “Sir, you need to understand that the Air Force is my client, not you personally.” That was normally when the boss had just finished saying “This is what I’m gonna do, make it legal.”
Amen! A vote for hitlerette is a vote to be poor and miserable for the rest of our lives. We can and should do better without much effort other than voting for DJ Trump but most of all; by not voting for the most heinous evil person to walk the planet currently and that’s obviously herr hillary.
Roger that. Akin to let’s make 60% crypto intelligibility acceptable to a forward observer calling in artillery to close quarters. I finally had to say no more and walked away from a promising career if I played ball. Not on my conscience. So I went off and made my own promising future.
Well, compared to all the revealed budgetary fraud and abuse, and loss of troops, I'd say that is taxpayer money well spent. Sort of like eradicating mosquitoes.
Every time there is a terrorist attack, we (they) should blow up the perp's home-village. Either we'd run out of villages, or the word would get out and the locals (those with a survival instinct) would start controlling their own murdering freaks.
