On Wednesday, Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan, who has supported forms of immigration reform since he was a House staffer in the 1990s, declared that he would "debate anybody" who calls the current bipartisan effort "amnesty."
"Earned legalization is not amnesty," Ryan said during a forum on immigration sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers. "I will debate anybody who tries to suggest that these ideas that are moving through Congress are amnesty. They're not. Amnesty is wiping the slate clean and not paying any penalty for having done something wrong."
I think that's a fine position Paul Ryan has taken here. To be equally consistent, he should stop complaining about entitlements. After all people who get them pay something, even if they get back more than they paid, like the millions of illegal aliens that the amnesty (oops) will cover will do as shown by the Heritage Study.
Exactly what is "earned" about the amnesty? Bueller? Bueller?
If you broke the law and then reap the benefits of that law-breaking through an act of congress, that act is amnesty. It's that simple. Criminals are not allowed to benefit from their crimes. You can't break into someone's house, steal a million dollars, keep it and then pay a hundred dollar fine.
That would be amnesty, even with the fine.

Technically he’s correct, but the point of the disagreement was that those who have already broken the law are not likely to follow it, so the fine never gets paid and, more importantly, they remain.
If they aren’t willing to go through a process to come here legally, you are a fool to believe that they will submit to some other process once they are here.
Nope, control the border FIRST, then let’s talk about what to do with those who are here.

This whole ‘debate’ by Amnesty supporters of any flavor is the equivalent of leaving a bullet or shrapnel in your body because it is ‘too difficult’ to remove.
The ‘act’ of entering this country was illegal - AGAINST THE LAW.
The continued ‘acts’ of REMAINING IN THIS COUNTRY as an illegal is AGAINST THE LAW.
Even with “penalties and/or fines” that may or may not compensate for the monetary cost of their illegal stay here, legalizing them and then allowing them the benefits represents a financial future liability of untold proportions.
He can ‘debate’ anybody he wants to about his equivocations, bleeding heart and appeasement, but his feelings do not trump established law, nor do they constitute the will of a majority of US Citizens.
If you give him your vote next Tuesday, you’re voting to force your children and grandchildren to be Spanish speakers in the future.
