Ryan has actually been worse than Boehner. So this argument, Huelskamp is great because he helped oust Boehner has it backwards. Anyone who voted for a Speaker who has been worse than Boehner shouldn’t get credit for it.

I rather suspect the vote reflected the dismay of the Republicans who voted for Trump seeing Cruz waltz up to the podium and not endorse the nominee and infact diss the nominee the next day.

Maybe the voters were sick of conservatives who covertly support Hillary. From the time Cruz’ campaign lost a path, via the voters, to the nomination, all true conservatives should have been lock, stock and barrel neverHillary. Like it or not, that meant pro Trump.
But you are overlooking the much bigger picture. Which is POTUS Trump. Trump will be 1000 times more effective in pushing the nationalist America First agenda than any single congress critter such as Huelskamps or Marshall. The very serious sin of Huelskamps was to oppose Trump which helps Hillary get elected.
Anyone who opposes Trump must be thrown to the wolves otherwise the globalist agenda will continue.

Once Huelskamp saw the writing on the wall, he apparently tried to pivot away from his NeverTrump silliness.
Too little, too late. As such, Huelskamp, and Huelskamp alone was the architect of his own demise.
