Before you watch this video, let me tell you it will be maddening. But it is worth watching for what you can get out of it. It is raw video of Sen. John McCain in Huntington, West Virginia today, August 6, 2008, where he went to a Marshall University Football practice and then spoke to the players after the practice. He spoke about his POW experience, and how courage and sacrifice are vital to the success of any team. The video is not professional, and at times it is as if McCain's words are cut off in mid-sentence. But if...

FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL ADVOCACY ARM ENDORSES MARSALL FOR SENATE May 6, 2008 Organization Cites ‘Clear, Significant Difference’ Between Marshall and Gilmore on Human Life FRC Action, the legislative advocacy arm of the Family Research Council founded by Dr. James Dobson in 1983 to promote marriage and family and the sanctity of human life in national policy, on Tuesday endorsed Del. Bob Marshall for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate. “Delegate Marshall is the conservative candidate in this race,” Connie Mackey, FRC Action’s senior vice president said in a statement released from its headquarters in Washington, D.C. “There is a...

County commissioners reaffirmed their stance against the Trans-Texas Corridor, and they took another step toward keeping county government transparent when they met Tuesday. First up on the court's agenda, commissioners heard a presentation by Connie Fogle on behalf of the newly formed Pineywoods Sub-Regional Planning Commission. According to Fogle, the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 391, requires state agencies to coordinate with local commissions to "ensure effective and orderly implementation of state programs at the regional level." "Critical in the code is the word 'coordinate,'" she said. "This does not mean the commission has to cooperate. The intent is to...

By Greg L | 13 April 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 1 Comment Bloggers have been watching a number of Republican mass meetings and county conventions and reporting a definite trend that seems to be bucking the conventional wisdom big time. While party insiders and the media have been predicting that the Senate race will be one between Mark Warner and Jim Gilmore, the developing reality may well indicate that it's actually going to be a matchup between Bob Marshall and Mark Warner. It's like watching a repeat of the HB 3202 lawsuit, where these same prognosticators utterly...

Social Conservatives Rally to Marshall in VA Senate Race By Evan Moore CNSNews.com Correspondent April 11, 2008 (CNSNews.com) - In the race for the seat of retiring Sen. John Warner (R-Va.), a delegate in the Virginia Legislature is mounting a campaign against a former governor and presidential candidate, amassing support from social conservatives, and has an opportunity to win the Republican Party nomination, according to some experts in Old Dominion politics. Bob Marshall, a Republican delegate in the state's General Assembly from Prince William County, is challenging Jim Gilmore, a former Virginia governor and a candidate for the 2008 GOP...

Lufkin Mayor Jack Gorden has been selected by the Texas Transportation Committee to serve on a citizens' advisory committee for putting together information regarding the proposed Interstate 69/Trans-Texas Corridor. According to Texas Department of Transportation officials, advisory committee members represent a cross-section of community and business leaders, landowners, local transportation experts and others. "Our goal is to enhance the public dialogue and meaningfully involve more Texans in transportation decisions," said Texas Transportation Commission Chair Hope Andrade. "These committees will have an important seat at the table as we work together to shape the future of transportation for our state." Gorden...

Virginia Del. Bob Marshall, the Republican from Prince William County who is one of the last great crusaders in the General Assembly, follows his conscience, no matter how unpopular or inconvenient the results. Whether he's seeking to restrict abortion in any possible way or trying to restrict development that might damage the environment, he's fine with ticking off left or right. In fact, he relishes the idea. So it came as no surprise that it was Marshall who tossed a pipe bomb into the delicate structure that housed Virginia's multibillion-dollar transportation compromise. And when he won a total victory in...

Republicans across Virginia are rallying with surprising vigor behind the U.S. Senate campaign of state Del. Robert G. Marshall, a quirky Prince William County conservative who is challenging former governor James S. Gilmore III for the GOP nomination to replace retiring Sen. John W. Warner (R). Marshall's role as the lead challenger in the lawsuit that overturned several local taxes that were part of Virginia's landmark transportation package Friday has propelled him into the spotlight. But even before then, the 63-year-old policy consultant was quietly amassing support, from county committee chairmen in rural parts of the state to Northern Virginia...

February 27, 2008 By Seth McLaughlin - RICHMOND — Delegate Robert G. Marshall's maverick style has Republicans split over whether he is their best candidate to defeat former Gov. Mark Warner in Virginia's U.S. Senate race. "I support him because he is not a team player," said Shaun Kenney, who recently resigned as spokesman for the state Republican Party. "There are a lot of conservatives who are so disappointed in some Republicans that they are really looking for people who will go to Washington, speak their mind and not go along with the establishment." The delegate from Prince William County,...

Sometimes the truth just has a way of coming to light. A public information officer with the Texas Department of Transportation this week wrote a column in the Herald-Press describing the financial woes facing TxDOT and how because of those problems the state’s transportation department doesn’t have the money to deal with many of the state’s transportation issues. Apparently, several of the state’s senators do not feel that is the case at all. David Dewhurst called out the state’s interim chairwoman of the Texas Transportation Commission, Hope Andrade, on this very issue, according to a story from the Associated Press....

Not one of the 11 East Texans who approached the podium at Wednesday's hearing on Interstate 69 voiced support for the planned highway. "This is highway robbery, and we should not pursue this project," said David Simpson, a Longview resident and fifth-generation Texan. "This process has bypassed the Constitution. It has bypassed the U.S. Congress, and I'm opposed to it because of the unconstitutional way that it has been pushed through." The public hearing, held at Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center, was a chance for residents to comment and ask questions about Interstate 69/Trans-Texas Corridor. The corridor would extend...

Local residents who want to add their two cents about the proposed Interstate 69 construction won't have to fill their tanks to do it. TxDOT is coming to Longview. The Texas Department of Transportation is holding 46 public hearings this month in East and South Texas along the planned corridor, including Tuesday's meeting in Longview. The hearings will give Texans a chance to comment and ask questions about the proposed Interstate 69/Trans-Texas Corridor, a collection of passenger and freight roadways, utility and rail lines from Texarkana to the Rio Grande Valley. A draft environmental impact statement released in November suggests...

Marshall to run for U.S. Senate By LILLIAN KAFKA lkafka@manassasjm.com Tuesday, January 8, 2008 Robert "Bob" G. Marshall, a state delegate since 1992, officially tossed his hat into the ring to run for U.S. Senate, he announced on Monday. Marshall, a Republican representing the House of Delegate's 13th district, is a conservative politician on many issues -- including abortion - and his posture on those issues is critical for a Republican to win in Virginia, he said. In 2007 Marshall introduced a bill, although unsuccessful, that would have banned abortions in Virginia if the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe...

MARSHALL — The proposed construction of Interstate 69 has been placed on a short list of projects that could receive preferential treatment over other transportation projects for federal funding, officials said. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters said this week that a final decision should be made this summer on which projects will be given the funding priority. If I-69 is selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation as part of the Corridors of the Future program, the federal department will aggressively support the project to move it "from the drawing board to completion faster than ever before," Peters said in...

Republicans in Congress who do not want to be quoted tell me that the State Department under Condoleezza Rice is a mess. This comes at a time when the U.S. global position is precarious. While attention is focused on Iraq, American diplomacy is being tested worldwide -- in Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, Korea and Sudan. The judgment by thoughtful Republicans is that Rice has failed to manage that endeavor.

Former congressman Mac Collins spent most of Wednesday saying, through his campaign staff, that he was still in a close race for the 8th Congressional District, and that he wanted to see every vote counted. U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Ga., held 50.5 percent of the vote and a 1,733 vote edge. He had declared victory. There were some votes still uncounted, but a Telegraph check of outstanding ballots didn't turn up enough uncounted votes to swing the race. Throughout the day, the Collins campaign had volunteers and attorneys in various counties, watching the process of cataloging provisional ballots and any...

Thoughts from my USO tour to IraqI've just returned from a trip to Iraq after an initial stop in Kuwait with actor Marshall Teague, who you know from films like ''The Rock,'' ''Armageddon,'' and TV programs like, ''Babylon 5,'' ''Sliders,'' and of course ''Walker, Texas Ranger.'' We went to visit and encourage service members as part of a United Service Organization (USO) tour. I'll share some of the inspiring moments in next Monday's article (and maybe a photo or two)! As in past years, I left the region more inspired by our troops than I believe they were by me....

Air Marshal Dress Code Changed Friday August 25, 2006 12:16 AM By LESLIE MILLER Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - Air marshals were told Thursday they will be allowed to dress the way they want and choose their own hotels in order to protect their anonymity while on missions. Federal Air Marshal Service chief Dana Brown, who has been in the job for five months, said he was changing the rules, starting Sept. 1, after listening to air marshals' concerns. In a memo to the air marshals, Brown said the dress code was changed to ``allow you to blend in...

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Three Mexican fishermen found drifting in the Pacific Ocean could have been lost for almost a year and two others were missing and presumed dead, the manager of a fishing company that rescued them said on Wednesday. Early reports suggested the fishermen had been lost at sea for about three months and drifted more than 8,000 km (5,000 miles) before they were found by a Taiwanese tuna fishing trawler in waters between the Marshall Islands and Kiribati on August 9. But Eugene Muller, manager of Koo's Fishing Co. Ltd in the Marshall Islands capital of Majuro, said...

Jim Marshall votes to use your taxpayer dollars for Spanish Ballots(Warner Robins, GA) For a person to become a naturalized American Citizen they are required to speak, understand and write Basic English according to American Red Cross Citizenship Project. Congressman Jim Marshall does not seem to understand that fact and has voted to spend our taxpayer funds to spend taxpayer money on bilingual ballots (Roll Call Vote 340, 06/28/2006). Mr. Marshall must therefore be asked why we need to spend our family's hard earned money when American citizens are required to understand English to vote. "After this vote and his...

Hamas terrorists are still holding Israeli Cpl. Gilad Shalit whose kidnapping resulted in the current Israeli rescue operation in Gaza. "The murder of kidnap victim Eliahu Asheri by the terrorist...

House Bill 4681 continues a long, sad history of peacemaking attemptsBy Congressman Jim Marshall (D-GA) [Barf Alert]The tangled politics of Middle Eastern peacemaking has a rich history of unintended consequences. Nearly a century ago, a perceptive British officer familiar with Palestine offered this bit of irony about the treaties ending World War I: "After the 'war to end war' they seem to have been pretty successful in Paris at making a 'peace to end peace." And now, in support of Israel, U.S. House members passed a bill that Israel's most senior military leader believes will only make matters worse -...

For a week, the killings of Richard “R.D.” and Jessie M. “Tiny” Shepard of Marshall have been described using words such as “violent,” “brutal” and “heinous.” But a probable cause statement filed in Saline County Associate Circuit Court over the weekend in conjunction with the arrests of three suspects takes the shocking nature of the crime to a new level - alleging the murders were planned in advance by a 16-year-old juvenile in cooperation with the two suspects named over the weekend, Spencer Tromont Anderson, 18, and Lyndale Devor Henderson, 17; that the trio, all from Marshall, planned who would...

"The Iranian nuclear program crisis is currently presenting the greatest challenge to the national security strategy of the Bush Administration. Strategists, diplomats and policy makers are all hard at work trying to craft a course of action and an international coalition that will dissuade and/or prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons... So absent military action and the West’s acquiescence to a nuclear armed Iran, can Iran be deterred from proliferating nuclear weapons and associated technology? Can we be assured they won’t pass one to a proxy? The answer is no, at least as current US strategies are crafted..."

The Thin Skinned CongressmanBy E. Goldstein(North Carolina) – It seems that Georgia Congressman Jim Marshall is a little peeved at me for publishing an excerpt from an editorial he wrote for the Atlanta Journal Constitution. When Robert Novak picked up on his quote he correctly reported that Marshall supports investigating the President at some time in the future. Novak made the mistake of reporting that Marshall had issued a statement to that effect, he had not. Marshall had just included the comments in a November editorial which can be read on his own congressional website. In his editorial Marshall wrote,...

Robert Novak Political ReportGeorgia-3/8: This seat, re-numbered after the mid-decade redistricting of last year, is now in greater peril for Democrats than before. Rep. Jim Marshall (D) is tempting fate with his announcement that he favors investigations of the Bush Administration. Although few voters anywhere are big fans of Bush nowadays, they will not welcome this, and it will become campaign ammo for his opponent, former Rep. Mac Collins (R), who will try to link him to the growing impeachment movement on the left. Leaning Democratic Retention.

Jim Marshall in his own words on what he will do if the Democrats win a majority in the 2006 elections:From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:"There is no question, however, that our presence in Iraq fuels the insurgency. For that reason, we should expect that Iraq's leadership will direct that we modify our operations or withdraw -- just as soon as Iraqis have the institutional capacity to internally secure their country. Americans simply haven't the perspective to make that call. Putting off for now the legitimate issues raised by Pelosi is frustrating at best, particularly for those who have consistently questioned...

Rep. Jim Marshall votes lockstep with liberals on the Death Tax(Warner Robins, GA) Congressman Mac Collins (Ret. R-GA) has reiterated his call for the permanent repeal of the Death Tax. Collins voted for the repeal of this oppressive tax multiple times during his 12 years as a member of the United States House of Representatives. Collins opponent Democrat Jim Marshall, who has voted three times against repealing the Death Tax, has demonstrated his true partisan nature by voting with the Democrats in Congress rather then the people he represents. Marshall voted in lockstep with his party leader Nancy Pelosi on...

GA 8: Marshall, Collins Gear Up for Fight on Unfamiliar Turf Democratic Rep. Jim Marshall easily won a second term in 2004, trouncing the Republican who had nearly beaten him two years earlier. But Marshall is expected to face a much tougher contest this year. Marshall’s near-certain Republican opponent is former Republican Rep. Mac Collins (1993-2005), who is looking to rejoin Congress after he surrendered his House seat in 2004 to pursue a Senate campaign that failed in the GOP primary. Collins is expected to wage a more competitive campaign against Marshall than 2004 nominee Calder Clay, who lost by...

WASHINGTON -- Could Episcopalians soon be celebrating the Feast of St. Thurgood? The Episcopal Diocese of Washington is to consider a resolution this Friday recommending that the late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall be considered a saint. A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing By William John Hagan Houston Home Journal 10/29/2005 I am perpetually astounded by the Southern Democrats that we send to Washington who paint themselves as conservatives while stabbing their hapless constituents in the back upon arrival. These wolves in sheep’s clothing are more then happy to support their constituents on visible issues such as the War on Terror and abortion. WALTHAM -- The chief justice of the state Supreme Judicial Court said yesterday that rhetoric about judges destroying the country and the suggestion that court decisions should conform to public opinion are threatening public trust in the judicial system, a cornerstone of democracy. Justice Margaret H. Baltimore Airport Renamed for Marshall By GRETCHEN PARKER, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 20 minutes ago ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The governor signed a bill Tuesday renaming Baltimore-Washington International Airport for Thurgood Marshall, the first black justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. Beginning Oct. 1, the airport will be known as Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich signed the bill as civil rights leaders and lawmakers looked on. "Our purpose is to honor a great mind who did the most to end legal segregation in America," said state Delegate Emmett Burns, a Baptist minister who introduced the bill.

Weighing in at six words, 55 letters and a tongue-twisting 17 syllables, the proposed new name for BWI Airport, everyone seems to agree, is an orthographical behemoth. Thurgood Marshall Baltimore-Washington International Airport -- the name proposed in legislation making its way through the Maryland General Assembly -- would, few dispute, appropriately honor one of Maryland's most revered sons. The change would cost the state at least $2.1 million, according to preliminary estimates.

While news coverage tends to focus on developments in the White House and with Congress, most folks pay little or no attention to what happens on the Supreme Court. That's a shame, says constitutional scholar and former Reagan Justice Department official Mark Levin, since the Court wields so much unchecked power affecting the everyday lives of Americans, often in ways detrimental to the nation. Released today, Levin's new book "Men in Black" is nothing short of an indictment of the high court, detailing judicial abuses from its founding in 1801 right through modern day decisions on abortion and homosexual rights...
