Libertarian Gary Johnson Polls at 10 Percent. Who Are His Supporters?
NY Times ^ | Sept. 4, 2016 | GIOVANNI RUSSONELLO

Mr. Johnson, a former Republican governor of New Mexico, is relying heavily on the backing of young people and independent voters disillusioned with the two major parties’ nominees.

More than 70 percent of his backers are younger than 50, and over three-fifths are political independents, according to a mid-August poll by the Pew Research Center.

Over all, Mr. Johnson, who will be on the ballot in all 50 states, has the backing of 10 percent of registered voters, the Pew poll found.

Johson- supporters are throwing their votes away. They should all be voting for Trump who will make real changes and has an excellent chance to get elected, but he does need all the votes he can get to beat Hillary Clinton.

Conservatives and independents who are voting for Johson are actually helping Hillary become president, though that may not be their intention.

We all know where the road paved with good intentions leads ( to h*ll)

No evidence this number is real. He can’t fill a rally.

Johnson supporters are throwing their votes away.

Exactly but they are too stubborn to admit it. They'd rather seen the country burn with Hillary than examine their own pride. It's selfish, really.

I consider myself a Libertarian.

I am voting for Trump.

I like the ideas the Libertarian parties espouses; smaller government, more liberty, less government intrusion into our lives. I’m really not 100% sure that Trump is for these things.

But the alternative - a Hillary presidency - is terrifying.

And I think if I vote for Mr. Johnson (who seems ok, but lacks the charisma of Mr. Trump) it will hurt Trump’s chances of beating Hillary.

I like Trump, I like his personality, his views seem mostly aligned with mine.

I hold him and anyone who votes for him responsible if God forbid Trump loses.

The pollsters can’t get a representative swath of people to answer their phones. The polls are worthless.

I’m thinking his supporters are mostly Bernie supporters and a few libertarians.

Johnson/Weld voters are:

-Some Millennials
-Disaffected Republicans and conservatives
-Moderate voters in Northeast states

I live in NJ and I see some Johnson signs. Some of them are just unhappy with Trump.

Even though I understood Mr Bush to be a distinctly imperfect President in ‘92 I wasn’t fooled for a minute by Ross Perot. And today, even remembering that Trump wasn’t my first...or even second...choice,I will again refuse to be fooled by anyone claiming to be more “pure”,more “sane”,etc.Barring a “Faithless Elector” in December there are only two people who will get a single Electoral Vote. One is a filthy Maoist crook who’s recently admitted to having been adversely affected by a brain injury...and the other one isn’t.

While I think any votes for this Johnson guy will be mostly Disgruntled D voters, he is still totally unknown off this FR board — nobody has heard of him — any claim he’s got more than 0.069 % support ( allowing that he has to have a mama and maybe votes of a few stoned out potheads )— any claim he’s got any serious support is some sort of false manipulation for ??? Purpose —???

A lot of his voters are coming from would be HRC voters. Remember, when John B. Anderson, another failed "moderate" Republican got on the ballot in all fifty states, he took as much from Carter as from Reagan, who was perceived by some as too extreme. Anderson got his 7% with the promise of a new movement, of which nothing came. Johnson will have similar results. He's not even a real libertarian, Weld even less so.

The superficial (yet dominant) thinking among nevertrump conservatives seems to be something like “If I don’t support Trump, that makes me a good person.”

Others have pointed this out. Opposition to Trump is largely the product of a narcissistic attitude.

Gary Johnson is for open borders, and his VP, former Massachusetts Gov. Weld, is a gun grabber. Sorry to say, but neither one of these two characters are “ok.”

There is no way Johnson can muster 270 Electoral College votes.

Either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton will be the next president.

Trump is the only person running who can save the country.
