Modern Man—ESPN (funny song)

“Some guys are in red shirts, some guys are in green...Life is for losers, sports is your friend. And who’s got more sports on than ESPN?..And there’s synchronized swimming and polo ahead, there’s wrestling for morons, and golf, for the dead”

I'm not going to ‘pay’ extra for any kind of sports unless it is like authentic Gladiatorial Coliseum type ‘sport’ where somebody get killed! :0)

The NFL alone collects nearly $7.5 billion a year from media companies...

And yet, by some magical method, they remain a non-profit organization.

Roku plus streaming services. 40% of cost, better entertainment.

I have Comcast
XFINITY TV $69.95
XFINITY INTERNET $56.95

I have a different company for landline and cell phones.
Add another $13 or so to the above for Net gateway and fees.

And I’m not paying an extra $10 for the tier that has NFL,
NHL, and MLB networks...

So glad I cut my Cable TV 3 years ago...

Paying for lefty broadcasts is a complete waste of money.

That number is going to skyrocket to make up for the revenue they are losing from patriots boycotting them!

The market needs to change to al la carte.

Let me pay for the channels I WANT to watch. And not for the 78 other
channels I don’t want to watch.

I’m doing my part: I won’t watch any 49’ers games until they get rid of Mr. Ungrateful.

“Last time I had cable it was $9.99 a month.”

We haven’t had cable or satellite for years. My rooftop antenna plus netflix has done the job. However, a row of pine trees between the antenna and the local transmitters is beginning to degrade the signal on rainy days.

A couple of weeks ago a fiber cable was laid in our neighborhood. I don’t even know whose cable it is. Sooner or later I hope to get a real good bundle offer from them. We’ll see.

this is going to come out much more harsh than I really intend, but people that get their panties in a twist over their cable/directv bill either need something more important in their lives to get upset over, or their whole lives are a wreck already.

and the little faggy roku box certainly isn’t an answer to any problem worth seriously worrying over.

NOPE.

It's why I cut the cable almost a year ago.

Never been happier... Got faster internet in the bargain.

We don’t watch NFL and most college football, only Giant baseball, never watch basketball, hockey, horse racing, NASCAR, rowing, rugby, soccer and volleyball — even Little League championships and poker games.

We don’t speak Spanish, Chicom, or any language besides English. So we don’t watch the increasing number of non English Channels.

Yet, our Comcast Bill is over $225/month and will be eliminated with Roku and Sling soon.

Actually, the NFL take is going to plummet. The number of viewers drives ad revenue, and TV networks cannot sustain broadcast rights contract fees unless they are supported by ad revenue. So as the number of viewers decreases, the networks have to offer less in the next contract. They may even have to cut more because the current deal runs through 2022 or something like that, and the networks will be bleeding money.

The NFL is the only example of a socialist system that has worked. All of the TV and ticket revenue is shared among the 30 teams. The players collective bargaining agreement is set to a fixed percentage of the TV revenue. Every team has a cap on how much to spend on player salaries. All incoming draftees are slotted to a pegged starting salary based on their draft selection. The TV money/player salaries are fixed so that every season the owner is millions of dollars in the black before he sells one ticket, jersey, or luxury suite.

Oh yeah, don’t forget. Most of the owners don’t have to pay any capital costs as the local governments pay for their stadiums and training facilities. And they have a Federal anti-trust exemption.

So being an NFL owner is like owning your own oil field that will never run dry...as long as people keep watching it on TV.
