Former Alaska Governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin filed a lawsuit against the New York Times Tuesday over an editorial that tied her to the January 2011 shooting of an Arizona congresswoman.
Palin's attorneys claim that the paper defamed her in the June 14 editorial, published hours after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., was shot and wounded while practicing with the GOP's baseball team in Alexandria, Va.
The editorial, attributed to the Times' editorial board and titled "America's Lethal Politics," initially linked Palin's rhetoric to the shooting that killed six people and wounded 13 others, including then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
The paper posted a correction the next day admitting that "no such link was established."
The editorial also claimed, incorrectly, that a now-infamous ad from Palin's political action committee put "Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs[sic]." The Times also corrected that statement, admitting that the crosshairs on the map targeted "electoral districts, not individual Democratic lawmakers."
"The Times used its false assertion about Mrs. Palin as an artifice to exploit the [Scalise] shooting," Palin's attorneys stated in the suit.

I hope she wins, but the Supreme Court has made it really hard to sue a newspaper.
Especially since it is an editorial.

Sue them and take a lot of cold hard cash. That is the only way to get this BS to stop!!!
But it seems as if she can prove malice, because even their own paper debunked the Gifford thing, yet they ran this hit piece anyway.

Dang hard to collect on an opinion article.
To prove "actual malice," Palin has to show that the NYT editors knew that what they published was false.
That sounds easy, but I am not a lawyer.
Sue them and bankrupt them.
The NY Times will probably plead poverty, with that being the reason they cannot fact check their prejudices. They will definitely need a Clinton or Obama judge.
Mark Levin seems to think she has a good case.
Good sue the hell out of the lying mediots on the Eastern side to Chicago/St Louis/Houston/Denver and every lying fish wrap on the west coast.
