“What would you call 53 inches of rain from a single storm?”

(Ignore the idiots.)

Load up the car like the clampitts with stuff that you don’t want to lose and leave the rest for insurance to replace.

I think the really scary part about Harvey is the combination of 35-plus inches of rain and the storm surge. We're talking much of the coastline of Texas hit with a deluge of water and wind that could make the infamous 1900 hurricane that destroyed Galveston, TX seem like a minor event.

Well, the models have been out to lunch on stuff before, let’s hope they’re boondogling this time too.

Saw earlier today that this storm has the potential to alter the coastline of TX.

I’d call that Ark amusement park in Kentucky and tell them to bring it on down.

I really hope you're right. If we do get 35+ inches of rain plus that storm surge, the destruction among the Texas Gulf coastline will be enormous. And we know what happened to Galveston, TX in that 1900 hurricane--it killed somewhere between six to twelve thousand people.

I certainly hope and pray that nursing homes and hospitals in the area have been either evacuated or there are plans to do so before this storm hits!

Yes—read earlier today that hospitals in some high risk locations were evacuating patients.

“Trust me, in 130k winds, there is nothing you’re going to do to “save the house.”

Or life on the planet for that matter.

My sister in law and husband are very good friends with Judge Ben Zeller mentioned in the article. I met him and his family at my niece’s wedding seven years ago and again at my nephew’s wedding four years ago.

Every time I see stories about the devastation caused by earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes, I am touched by the damage suffered by those who are affected. But when you know them personally, it has an entirely different feeling.

Port Lavaca could get fifty three (53) inches of rain!!!

Key word is "could". Someone might get that amount somewhere if multiple rain bands hit for long durations. But the model predictions of those bands can be taken with a grain of salt.

And another thing that really concerns me.....are there any evacuation plans to assist ranchers to get their horses and livestock out of harms way? I can not even begin to imagine the devastation to them, should they be left to flounder and surely drown!
