Allison was a minor tropical storm that stalled inland. Caused massive flooding and billions in damage.

This is forecast to be a major hurricane that stalls inland for days. Do the math.

This would be the first direct hit of a hurricane at Corpus Christi since Aug. 3,1970, so it doesn’t happen that often along the Texas coast.

If there is an expectant mother close to her due date anywhere along the coast, there is a good chance she will go into labor and have the baby around the time of land fall. We have a “hurricane baby” in our family and the maternity ward was full of moms birthing babies!

NautiNurse :" Heads up Texas and Louisiana for extended heavy rain, and potential Category 3 winds."

Weather Channel suggests Category 3 storm with 115 mph winds once it goes over warmer Gulf waters.
The Storm Surge is expected to be deadly with initial flooding. The storm is expected to meander, wander, and linger for several days continuing in the area for 3 1/2 days (thru Monday)
thus dumping a lot of rain in the lowlands and increasing the flooding potential.

And some people need to replenish their supplies and some people are new to the area, and some people are just starting out on their own and don’t have supplies already.

The stores need to have those supplies for people who want/need them.

Yeah, if this thing comes on shore and just sits there like they say it’s going to, this is going to get really messy.

People should prepare. No doubt about it.

You condescend very well.

You also seem to have no issue with the tendency for weather forecasters, writers, etc. to overuse superlatives on mid-scale (or lower) storms, so that when the superlatives are actually warranted they do not have the appropriate effect.

The information presented in the maps is very useful. The headline, because it looks so much like many false past headlines, may actually cause people to miss valuable information.

Have a great day, FRiend.

Agree. Harvey looks to be a particularly nasty storm.

Blah, blah CATASTROPHIC!!! blah, blah blah...

Some areas are expecting over 20 inches of rain. That's a lot of water in low lying areas. Yeah ... could be catastrophic.

Inland flooding cam be catastrophic. Google pics of Agnes from ‘72. In my neck of the woods, that qualified as catastrophic.

Prayers for all in harm’s way.

The thing is, this is a FR thread to discuss current events and articles. My comments are more about the “cry wolf” press not being believable any more.

It’s not about this particular storm at all.

I only condescend to those who deserve it. Tell again how this scenario is anything but catastrophic:

Yes...Allision was small but the ceneter just happened to stall right over the east side of HOU..rainfall rates 4-5 inches per hour for several hours..totals up to 35 inches over a very small area

I don’t think houston will get those rates ..those rates will be in the stalled eyewall more south...but constant heavy rain for days will cause major river and creek flooding

momincombatboots :" Surfs up? You mean gas prices are up. Under bush those folks gouged us at nearly 5 dollars a gallon."

I heard earlier that all the offshore oil rigs are being evacuated, or personell have already left the area.
Also, that nine of the largest refineries are located in the proposed landfall area, and production has already started to fall.

Kansas man—I wrote the headline. I also have a sterling reputation for providing accurate tropical storm assessments because my life and property depends upon it. You, on the other hand, do not have a clue. Give yourself a break and take in some of the other exciting threads offered on FR.
