Ricardo Rossello, the Democratic governor of Puerto Rico, said Friday that President Trump has responded to his requests for help in the aftermath of two hurricanes, which devastated the island.
First, Hurricane Irma clipped the U.S. territory, with the eye passing just north of the island, while Hurricane Maria directly hit Puerto Rico as a Category 4 hurricane.
"I have to say that the administration has responded to our petitions. FEMA, Brock Long, has been on the phone virtually all the time with me, checking out how things are going," said Rossello.
"The different components of the national guard, military, FEMA and our government are working together on the priorities," he added.
Rosellos comments come after the administration has come under fire by some for not doing enough to help Puerto Rico--or quickly enough.
For example, Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré, the former Joint Task Force Katrina Commander, slammed the White Houses positive reports about their response on the island, calling them bullsh*t.
This bureaucratic response is not working. With all due respect to the White House, theyre trying to put lipstick on this pig, but this thing is moving too slow, he told CNNs Anderson Cooper.
But Trump on Friday confirmed what Rossellos said about his administraitons response efforts, saying hes been supportive.
"Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello just stated: 'The Administration and the President, every time we've spoken, they've delivered, the president tweeted. "The fact is that Puerto Rico has been destroyed by two hurricanes," he said on Twitter. "Big decisions will have to be made as to the cost of its rebuilding!"
Not according to the party he won under in Puerto Rico. He was a New progressive vs. Popular Democratic candidate.

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) conducted its first assistance mission in Puerto Rico today in support of commonwealth and federal hurricane relief efforts.
Six HH-60 medevac Blackhawk helicopters from Team Medevac, an element of the divisions 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, transported three Disaster Medical Assistance Teams from Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan to hospitals in Arecibo, Mayagüez and Ponce.
Team Medevac, comprised of more than 70 personnel and eight HH-60 medevac Blackhawk helicopters, departed here, Sept. 27, on two C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft. After arriving later that day at José Aponte de la Torre Airport, in Ceiba, Soldiers from the team and Airmen from the 22nd Airlift Squadron, 60th Air Mobility Wing and the 68th Airlift Squadron, 433rd Airlift Wing unloaded the helicopters. The Soldiers then placed the aircraft into operation and conducted test flights, Sept. 28, before conducting their first relief mission today.
>>They tried hiring semi-qualified people and three fuel trucks were stolen.
Based on that, and my experience there some years ago, there are some cultural problems to be overcome. I have a hard time thinking highly about a place where the locals buy wrought iron and razor wire by the metric ton.
Well it says Democrat under party affiliation, and under party it says “New Progressive Party”
PR has chosen to misspend money on social programs and not fix infrastructure like electricity, city water, sewer and roads, etc. So now we can’t repair what was junk in first place, so it looks like as taxpayers we will get stuck rebuilding PR electric grid, etc.
PR is a US Territory... probably needs to be a state so federal and state taxes can help rebuild, and restore the island. It looks in pics like most of it is in rubble and needs more than Houston and Key West, and that is saying a lot!
This sounds like a huge whiff by the Disaster Preparedness Organization(s?) that would deal with PR. It’s probably a problem a decade or more in the making.
There have to have been SOME indications of trouble in past events... Maybe no one ever asked something along the lines of “what if what happened last year was twice as bad and covered 80% of PR, instead of 10%?”
This is VERY likely libs at work — people who usually have little ability to project down the road more than a step or two.
I wonder who has been most directly in charge of FEMA’s responsibility for PR for the last several years?. (I confess ignorance of FEMA’s structure — I would assume they have some one person in charge of each State or Territory(?) who then reports to either a regional director or to the Fema Nat’l director him/herself.
Roads and bridges are washed out. Debris has not been cleared from roads. So a lot of basic work has to be done, unless they use helicopters to ferry supplies.
There are military personnel and equipment being put there, and 3000 containers of food, medicine and fuel sitting on the docks. Need to distribute it.
Like 40 out of 51 hospitals are open.

I read on another conservative site that because of the high crime/attacks the truck drivers won’t go without more security for them. That seems to be the biggest problem and reason for delays.
The Puerto Rico truck driving thugs are not handling what the people need.
Puerto Rico aid is trapped in thousands of shipping containers!

Yes, a lot of what you said is true. The real issue is FAKE NEWS from left trying to make Trump Admin response look bad. Here is TRUTH in that Union Truck Drivers refused to deliver the supplies/food stuck in port on containers. Trump has sent hundreds of truck drivers to PR to distribute what the democrat/union truck drivers won’t for their own people. It’s on Twitter, check the trending comments sections.
So it is a left issue to try and discredit Trump. Every agency and First Responders on the Ground in San Juan, PR...over 10,000. and military, and all agencies like FEMA, etc.
As soon as the hurricane hit Puerto Rico, I knew that the left was itching to find a way to turn this into Trump’s “Katrina.” They have started.
Fair enough though it’s important to note that Rossello is to the right of most of the Democratic Party
The drivers are “ON STRIKE “
Look at what you posted. Stuff is there. People are there. People familiar with modern transportation technology are there. ...And they need the military to be sent there to move the stuff?
Today’s PRs are hopeless hapless babies. They are doing nothing for Themselves. Even the Cubans conduct themselves in a more adult manner when hit by a storm.
And its 1,209 nautical miles from the port of Miami to San Juan!!!!

And I heard the power plant in Puerto Rico isn’t damaged; its totally destroyed. Trump said this yesterday.
Yes the situation there would be dire. However the misinformed ones trying to blame Trump need to buy a clue.
It doesn’t sound like a formal strike, more like they just aren’t showing up for work, many are out of contact.
Actually, the teamster leader there told the truck drivers not to go to work.
