Trump: GOP tax bill 'essentially' repeals ObamaCare

President Trump on Wednesday claimed the Republican tax plan “essentially” repeals former President Obama’s signature health-care law.

“When the individual mandate is being repealed, that means ObamaCare is being repealed,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting at the White House. “We have essentially repealed ObamaCare and we will come up with something much better.”

The GOP tax overhaul gets rid of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate, which requires almost all Americans to purchase health insurance or pay a fine.

Trump said he refrained from playing up that measure because he was worried about how the news media would report it, but added “now that it’s approved, I can say that.”

Despite Trump’s claim, the tax bill does not repeal ObamaCare entirely.

People will still be able to purchase insurance through individual marketplaces, Medicaid expansion is preserved and consumer protections remain in place.

True. The mandate is the lynchpin of Obiecare. Without it the whole ponzu scheme falls like a house of cards.

And the insurance subsidies will be authorized by Congress.
Probably in the CR Friday.

It’s “one step forward... “.

“When the individual mandate is being repealed, that means ObamaCare is being repealed,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting at the White House. “We have essentially repealed ObamaCare and we will come up with something much better.”

Are the subsidies still in place? Are the offsets for the insurance companies still in place? Are the Obamacare taxes still in place? Then Obamacare is alive and well.

"The GOP tax overhaul gets rid of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate..."

Does the bill actually repeal the individual mandate, or does it merely reduce the penalty for failing to obtain health insurance to $0?

There is a huge difference between the two.

Those remaining pages may be “in effect”, but are now largely difficult or impossible to enforce.

Learn it, live it, love it.

Prediction....competition will be terrific for prices and low cost alternatives to what insurance companies cover. There will be more information available about improving ones general health and immune system, and more concern about health eating, exercising, and lifestyle choices. When people pay their own bills, they'll notice some of the absurd costs without alternatives that insurance companies gleefully cover so they continue to raise rates.

One thing my mind can't resolve. The opioid crisis has spun way out of control with expanded Medicaid and Obamacare offering easy access to doctors and prescriptions that provide pharmaceutical poisons. Is there a connection? Maybe less people will become addicted if they know they're accountable for their decisions.

No it doesn’t repeal it!! Not a single bit! That’s like saying someone will willing drop their employer supplemented healthcare just because! This mantra that it will kill it is a load of crap! Tax payer supplemented and funded Obamacare is still there! People who use Obamacare to receive free healthcare will still use it. Those that don’t have health insurance but need it will still use it! All laws with respect to Obamacare still exist.

Spin spin spin
