RAND PAUL HAS A SOLUTION TO STATE OF THE UNION PROBLEM — CUTS OUT PELOSI ENTIRELY 9:30 AM 01/17/2019 | POLITICS Virginia Kruta | Associate Editor 1035

Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul offered a potential solution to the State of the Union problem that has been front and center for the past few days — President Donald Trump bypasses the House of Representatives entirely and delivers the speech from the Senate floor.

“Senator McConnell is in charge of the Senate,” Paul tweeted Thursday morning. “If Mrs. Pelosi refuses to allow the president to deliver the State of the Union in the House, I propose we move it to the Senate and make it happen!”

Pelosi first said the Secret Service couldn’t provide security.

Then after the SS said they were prepared, she said they shouldn’t be forced to provide security if they aren’t getting paid.

But Pelosi is protected by Capitol Police, and they are not getting paid either. But Pelosi is still expecting them to protect her, so . . .

I think there has to be a formal refusal on her part. Trump needs to tell her, that I fully intend to give the SOTU speech on the 29th as we had agreed on. End of story.

Given RBG’s current challenges, there’s an extra seat right there.

Trump should do it from the White House press room. He’d be in total control. No Pelosi; no house democrats. No Schumer; no senate democrats. Invite only republicans from the house and senate; and members of SCOTUS. Plus, a bunch of ‘victims’ of the democrats’ government shutdown, and another bunch of victims of the illegal aliens.

> Ignore her. Walk into the House to deliver SOTU with or without invitation. <

I agree. The booing from the Democrats will be without precedent. That’s unfortunate, but it can’t be helped.

And no, I don’t think that the booing will help or hurt anyone much. Maybe an independent voter or two will be swayed. But at this point, the battle lines are pretty much drawn.

” “Senator McConnell is in charge of the Senate,”” Really rand? You really believe that?

><

I believe McConnel is in more charge of the Senate than you are.

In the HR, she sits directly behind the POTUS and next to the VP during the address.

Trump can't do that. He has no more right to speak in congress than Pelosi has a right to grant pardons.

The president must be invited and approved by both houses of congress in order to do the SOTU the way it's been done for most of the past 80 years or so.

There’s a difference between tradition and law. Trump is required by law to inform Congress of the State of the union. Law gives him aythority to call one, or both houses for a meeting, and law gives him the authority to adjourn.

Just because “we’ve always done it this way”, doesn’t make it immutable. Some people have been corrupt since the beginning of mankind, but doesn’t make corruption something to embrace.

You are wrong.
You may want to look at article II section III of the constitution.

I think he should do his SOTU via live feed from a “secret location” and not grace these people with his presence at all.

You might get confirmation from that Obama nominee for SCOTUS who never got to a full Senate vote, if McConnell is in charge.

Yep, I’m sure.

He can do the right thing when he wants to. He did good during the Kavanaugh crap, for instance.

We can thank Donald Trump for giving some of these pukes a spine.

The SOTU has not ways been done this way.

Up until Wilson, hand written SOTUs were typical.

A January SOTU is traditional. The Constitution only requires that the President advise the nation on the state of the union "from time to time".
