Actress Hilarie Burton says she walked away from a job for the Hallmark Channel earlier this year after executives ignored her requests for an "LGBTQ character, an interracial couple and diverse casting."
Burton's claims come after the network was embroiled in a scandal this month over first pulling and then reinstating commercials with a same-sex kiss.
Burton, who has appeared in several Hallmark Channel movies such as Summer Villa and Naughty or Nice, wrote in a Twitter thread Sunday that she was let go from a job back in January.
I had insisted on a LGBTQ character, an interracial couple and diverse casting. I was polite, direct and professional. But after the execs gave their notes on the script and NONE of my requests were honored, I was told take it or leave it, Burton wrote. I left it. And the paycheck.

All she has to do is create her own production company and make these programs of diversity and alphabetsoupers and try and sell that crap to the wider public audience......................good F’n luck!
Could you imagine how Hilaries head would explode if Christians started demanding representation in all of her projects? Hypocrits.
Thanks. I never heard of it, but then I rarely watch TV any more. But that's cool. If folks want to watch it, fine by me. I'm not about to tell the net or its viewers what they have to have on it.
Hollyweird: See where I'm going with this?
The Left isn’t destroying Hallmark, HALLMARK is destroying Hallmark. Our side ALWAYS backs up...
Launched in 2005, it was originally aimed primarily at LGBT viewers, but in 2012 it expanded towards general cultural and lifestyle programming.
Appealing to ~2% of the population isn't a great business model.
That is by design. Force people to accept “the lifestyle” or be driven out of business.
“There were more interracial marriages than there are now, because people of my generation didnt focus on race.”
That’s demonstrably false.
“Rates of intermarriages among newlyweds in the U.S. more than doubled between 1980 (6.7%) and 2008 (14.6%). However, different groups experienced different trends. Rates more than doubled among whites and nearly tripled among blacks. But for both Hispanics and Asians, rates were nearly identical in 2008 and 1980.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interracial_marriage_in_the_United_States#2008_Pew_Research_Center_Report
That’s the kind of post that makes this forum look bad.
Unless I misunderstood your meaning. What happens at the beginning that’s happy?
Thank you for confirming my point, even though you intended to dispute it.
I graduated young, and in 1980. Most of us didn’t get married until our mid twenties or early thirties.
I am half of one of the interracial couples of which I speak and no bullshit internet statistic you could try to post erases the fact that all this harping on white privilege and math being racist and the whole waterfall of bovine diarrhea which accompanies that makes it harder for interracial couples and their children.
Remake Roots, but with Scottish slaves mistreated in Ireland. Later, one of the slaves escapes to a monastery back in Scotland and then returns to preach the Gospel.
If you’re talking about interracial couples, for some reason I thought Hallmark already had them.
I should know because the only time I don’t watch the Hallmark channel is when they recycle the Golden Girls.
As far as gay couples are concerned, I’m OK with girl-on-girl action. I hear Erika Linder and Natalie Krill are available.
True - many people in our age range didn’t marry or start families until close to (or after) age 30.
If it doesnt have Guns, Gazongas, or Godzilla, Im channel surfing until I find it.
That is tag line worthy.
You should see Downey Unstoppables - REALLY weird ad - looks like they're really trying to be sexual. I got an icky feeling when I saw it - won't watch it again, ever!
No, my post was directed to one particular post here.
But I might’ve misunderstood that poster’s meaning.
As for Hallmark, I’ve enjoyed their shows now and then.
For the record, I’m a woman, so I can’t relate to your last two sentences. lol
Reminder: Rates of intermarriages among newlyweds in the U.S. more than doubled between 1980 (6.7%) and 2008 (14.6%).”
So you actually think the fact that interracial marriages have doubled since 1980 proves that “in 1980...
There were more interracial marriages than there are now”?
Please, rocket scientist, explain to me how a more than 100% increase in something is actually a decrease.
My generation graduated in eighty. We didn’t get married until the late eighties to the mid nineties.
It isn’t “I think” it is the experiences of the people who I grew up with. The last marriage of one of my classmates I was able to go home and attend was in 1995. The bride was African African.
I didn’t claim to be a rocket scientist.
On the other hand, I mentioned graduating in 1980 and from that you have asserted that we got married in 1980 when we were seventeen and eithteen.
Truly you are a brilliant Rocket Surgeon.
Why don't you ask Him? I certainly don't know.
If He tells you the answer, please let me know.
Flipping through the channels the other night, caught a short spurt of a movie (Overlord?) with black paratroopers preparing to jump on D-Day.
Revisionist BS.
