French President Jacques Chirac has told CNN: "When it comes to punishing this murderous folly, France will be at the side of the United States."
On Saturday, Spain's Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar reiterated Spain's support of the US.
Aznar expressed "solidarity with the United States" in a telephone conversation with the American President, hours after he visited the U.S. embassy and signed in the condolence book for the victims.

This is really Germany's darkest hour, even the French are getting in on the action!
Time to choose teams or no new Chryslers get sold.

"When it comes to punishing this murderous folly, France will be at the side of the United States." Don't panic. We can still win.

Is it really in good taste to redicule an ally who is standing beside us?

Oh no! Now I'll have to settle for a Peugot over a VW!
I would have thought that the French would have bailed first.

Hopefully to the side and far, far behind.

This is a fairly strong statement while some other European countries are cowering. I bow to the French in this case.

LOL and spitting on keyboard. Lord I was so worried and frightened. I was unable to eat. I have been sleepless. But with the mighty force and bravery of the French I am calm and unafraid. We will surrender early and often.

If they stick to this, I owe France an apology for my most recent snipes.

I agree ... regardless of their actions in the past, or even their reasons for joining the US in this one, thy are still head and shoulders above other countries that refuse to support the US in this one. If you think about it, every country that refuses to take action with the US and NATO is endorsing terrorism, and if I was the leader of any country that supports terrorism, I think I'd do like this: Bend over and kiss my A** goodbye.

Didn't the French have a division in Desert Storm who faked west (the 101 AASLT Div north of them) in order to cut off any fleeing/flanking Repub Guard Divisions. My memory is that they executed that perfectly, although they complained that they wanted to be part of the main effort....to get into the battle.
The worst thing about the French is their "eating snails." I'm sure, though, that some Freeper loves snails and will flame me for running down this "cultural delicacy."

As much as I like to pick on them... remember LaFayette. Outside of Paris there's some tough left in them.

I'm very happy to hear this.As one who truly loves Spain,I am not the least bit surprised that they are on board! Spaniards put a great store in honor and bravery!Italy & Germany would do well to emulate them.Viva Espana!

Seeing is believing .. I spent 18 years working for the French and consider myself a francophile. But, of late, their socialistic views are decidedly NOT in step with ours.
Alors, "pommes frites" all around! ... and keep the Chardonnay flowing.

This is fun. Everybody knows that Uncle Sam is going to war, with them or without them. Those who join up now will enjoy unspecified benefits for years to come. Those who spurn our call for help may earn our enmity for a lifetime. Nobody wants to go, but they are all afraid that the other guy will say yes. This is happening in Europe with even Russia as a potential post-war player, and it's happening with India and Pakistan. They all wish everyone would agree to say no. But they all know that at least one of them would stab the rest in the back to be Uncle Sam's Favorite Friend as we head into the 21st century. Bush plays a good head game. |
