(VANITY) Anyone Else Tired of the Talk About the "Constitution's Separation of Church and State?"
CNN/Various | 6/28/02 | me (vanity)

I know that this has come up in various forums before, but since the 9th Circuit's decision on the 26th, much of the liberal media's discussion has centered around the supposed "separation of church and state" clause in the Constitution

I am sick and tired of all of the leftist commentary recently regarding this supposed "separation of church and state." There is NO SUCH comment in the Constitution!!! When are they going to get that through their thick skulls? Since when is outside commentary by someone who did NOT help frame the Constitution allowed to be constued as being relevant to the Constitution itself??? Not only that, but it has been used to define the meaning of the amendment itself!

Jefferson's comments are TOTALLY taken out of context. This is ridiculous. I wish the government indoctrination center's would stop teaching revisionist history, and start teaching the truth.

Even worse is a CNN Poll today:

"Do you agree with the U.S. Constitution's separation of church and state?"

What a load of crap! There is no way to correctly answer that...

Actually Jefferson did not write nor did he even sign the constitution so his view of the meaning of the first amendment, even if the liberal understanding of his view is correct, is no more relevant than that of any other person alive during that time who did not sign it. I like Jefferson but have always been a Sam Adams man myself, without him we are still drinking tea with our pinkie stuck out. George Washington is another guy to see as a hero, his contemporaries called him the indispensable man. He proclaimed a "public day of Thanksgiving and prayer" for the nation. I'll bet if Dr. Newdow was around he would have sued him and many of my libertarian friends would have joined him as friends of the court.

One would hope the Supreme Court (or Congress, or the President) would issue some clear statement about what an "establishment of religion" is and what it isn't.

The idea that by merely mentioning the word "God" or the words "under God" or "In God We Trust" or "endowed by their Creator" creates one Christian denomination as a "state church," membership in which is required for citizenship and voting rights (that's what a "state church" is), is a little absurd. The "establishment" clause does not prohibit people from suggesting that God exists or that they believe in a Supreme Being. Just because a president, governor, or Senator says, "God Bless America" or "You know, guys, I believe in Jesus Christ," that doesn't create a state church by law, binding on all Americans, etc. If this "no religious expression of any kind" theory were the correct interpretation, Congress would never have had chaplains or prayers.

If the so called separation were as pure as liberals would like it to be then the government could not tax any person of faith and use those monies for PUBLIC SCHOOLS!

Yes I've long been tired of it and I'm not a Christian or a churchgoer.

Rant on! I think a lot more of us need to start ranting.
RE: “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between church and State.

A question-
Why are we not focusing on the "make no law respecting ----THE FREE EXCERCISE THEREOF" part of this quote? If, as reported, all students have the right not to participate it would seem that those who do are in fact freely excersising their right to do so.

A point-
A wall doesn't necessarily exclude, most often it simply divides and establishes boundaries, and it's the part of a structure that hold up the roof- the common protection that covers everything under it. It seems clear that whatever else they may have said or done, the founding fathers intended that the common protection for these United States is and would always be, God.

"Do you agree with the U.S. Constitution's separation of church and state?"

"Do you agree that Joe Bloggs has stopped beating his wife yet?"

Liberal bias - liberal agenda - disguise the question to get the answer you want.

I AGREE WITH YOUR SENSIBILITIES ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION AND THE LEFT.

However, if you don't like a thread, don't read it.

I deplore the Lincoln haters. I personally think they are trying to sell books primarily. But if Jim allows them to rant on, it's his show. OK by me. If I get too annoyed, I can skip their threads.
