A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 08-01-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

May I Have Your Autograph Please?

"I am cursed by looking like Ernest Hemingway,  who as you know has been dead since 1961 and was born 07/01/1899.   In Tahiti a few months ago a blue haired lady from a cruise ship ran up to me and said she knew I was Hemingway and insisted on my autograph.   I signed his name and she ran off shouting to her fellow shipmates, who came running my way.   I got away in the rental car.
Several FReepers and I have been laughing about what will happen when she meets more educated persons or tries to sell the autograph on E-Bay or some such."   ~ ofMagog

The Serious Stuff

ofMagog is a retired U.S. Army Veteran.  He got shot up in a Cold War "operation", and went on to college, then grad school, and received his PhD in psychology from Columbia NYC.  ofMagog worked two years in the Nixon/Ford White House before private practice.  He is retired now after 25 years as a PhD Psychologist.  A family of doctors, ofMagog's beautiful wife is a retired OB/GYN (she's also a 3rd degree black belt!), and both of their daughters are physicians as well.

The Silly Stuff

One has only to exchange a few posts with him on threads, or take a look at his profile page to see links to threads with such titles as "For Dumb Butts", or "The Sailboat Escape-Pod Option", to know there is MUCH more to this FReeper than The Serious Stuff!  Look for him, and you'll probably find a few other FReepers following him around....LadyX, Scuttlebutt, beowolf, Fred Mertz, Snow Bunny, COB1, razorback-bert, michigander, Carolinamom, swheats....I think they might be part of his Motley Crew!

A woman sat down on a park bench, glanced around and decided to stretch out her legs on the seat and relax. After a while a beggar came up to her and said, "Hello luv, how's about us going for a walk together."

"How dare you," said the woman, "I'm not one of your cheap pickups!"

"Well then," said the beggar, "what are you doing in my bed?"

who, I do have several of the pledge graphics in a handy little file just ready to copy and paste into a post. You are more than welcome to use that one, too. I noticed that kayak posted it on the ATRW thread yesterday. That's what it's for, as far as I'm concerned! :) To use! Anytime!

Well, I forgot to make my comment to you and 'sent' it! I like that "Getting to Know You" - might be an idea for subtitle for the weekend thread or something anyway. Thanks!

Billie - What a fabulous choice today. ofmagog was not very well known to me so it was great fun to get to know him! What an interesting, unique and funloving Freeper! I'm proud that he is part of our ranks!

ofmagog - if you kind of miss "getting into folks heads" Mr. D. and I along with our two dogs and a cat would be happy to join you and let you study us (at your whim) as we travel the beautiful seas with you...LOL

Thanks for the offer, Billie.

I see it that way with the things I post, too. The more who have an opportunity to appreciate them, the better.

Missed being here today. I had meetings etc. all day....plus I'm still on Mr. D.'s portable..our computer is still in the shop from the other day.... (thunderstorm) I always considered myself easy going/adaptable but gosh....I'm starting to hate change. (and that's happening too. LOL).

Great job Billie. Looking forward to tomorrow!

The Message

Last summer, when the power mower was broken and wouldn't run, Jane kept hinting to Dick, her husband, that he needed to get it fixed, but somehow the message wasn't sinking in.

She finally thought of a clever way to make the point. When Dick arrived that day, he found her seated in the tall grass, busily clipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors.

He watched silently for a short time, then went into the house. Jane thought she had again failed to get his attention. Well, he was gone only a few moments, and when he came out again he handed her a toothbrush saying, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the sidewalks."

And if I just can't decide by myself, then we'll call in Mama_Bear, who is, I'm told, "THE" authority on margaritas! (Drinking them, that is!)

Now, I wonder who could have told you that? LOL!
My fondness for cookies and Margaritas has been greatly exaggerated by our louiewolf, however, I would be more than happy to help taste test your Margaritas (also any cookies you might have laying around). ;-)

He's making himself scarce the last couple of days, isn't he?

Maybe the daffodils scared him yesterday. :) Or maybe he's holding out for promised hugs?!?

Never mind...I see he made an entrance.

A guy was at a restaurant and couldn't figure out what to get, so he asked the waiter whom he knew, "What do you recommend, Henri?"

"Well, today our special is chicken on a bed of wild rice with green beans almondine and a nice side salad, with a succulent shrimp cocktail and your choice of beverage and dessert

"That sounds great. How is your chicken prepared?"

"We break it to him very gently and tell him it's nothing personal!"

*Now, now Ellen*

A man observed a woman in the grocery store with a three-year-old girl in her basket. As they passed the cookie section, the child asked for cookies, and her mother told her "no." The little girl immediately began to whine and fuss, and the mother said quietly, "Now Ellen, we just have half of the aisles left to go through; don't be upset. It won't be long."

He passed the mother again in the candy aisle. Of course, the little girl began to shout for candy. When she was told she couldn't have any, she began to cry. The mother said, "There, there, Ellen, don't cry. Only two more aisles to go, and then we'll be checking out."

The man happened to be behind the pair in the checkout line, where the little girl began to clamor for gum and burst into a terrible tantrum upon discovering her mother would not buy any gum. "Ellen, we'll be through this checkout stand in five minutes, and then you can go home and have a nice nap," the mother said.

The man followed them out to the parking lot and stopped the woman to compliment her. "I couldn't help noticing how patient you were with little Ellen," he said.

The mother replied, "My little girl's name is Tammy. I'm Ellen."

A mother was telling her little girl what her own childhood was like:
"We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard.

We rode our pony.

We picked wild raspberries in the woods."

The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this in.

At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"

Yep! Caliche is nice when its ground very fine and packed really tight. What's NOT good to drive on - and we did that about a month ago in Central Texas - is the stuff that's just spread with all these big rocks in it! BUMPY!!
