Humboldt judge orders halt to Pacific Lumber timber cuts

Environmental groups hailed a Humboldt County Superior Court judge's unexpected ruling ordering a temporary halt to logging by Pacific Lumber Co.

Judge John Golden ordered the halt after state agencies that oversee timber harvests delayed three years before submitting a formal administrative record. The judge said that record purportedly encompasses "about 75,000 pages of material contained within 47 cardboard 'bankers boxes."'

Under the circumstances, the judge ruled halting logging "is not against the public interest, but, to the contrary, serves the public interest."

I don't see how ruining the Eureka/Arcata economy is in the public interest. Wait 20 years and the fires will begin.

This is very unfortunate that timber workers in that area will be losing more work. I'm interested in if the areas affected that were slated for logging were areas of real old trees or smaller younger trees.If they are smaller trees,I want to know even more about why the judge ruled all work must stop.

If you went to Humboldt Co. and asked around,I'm sure somebody could tell you where to get one of those $10,000 swedish composting crappers. Pick up one of those solar panels that takes more energy to make than they produce in a lifetime at the same time!

Why can't a company log their own privately owned land?
Why is a judge even involved?
So what does a state agency not filing the proper paperwork have to do with stopping the logging?

Sounds like the state had lagged on filing the required paperwork and the judge felt they were not following regulations concerning that.As you probobly know,even private lands are subject to regulations,landholders have to file timber harvest plans,etc. Why can't a company log their own privately owned land? Well they can,but all the little ducky's must be in a row-sounds like the state really screwed them on this one. The judge evidently felt EPIC's arguments had some merit this time,usually he rules against envioro's.

I beleive Judge golden is a visiting judge because all the local judges have been disquaified here in Humboldt and I don't recognize the name.

Why can't a company log their own privately owned land?

Because trees aren't plants, and you can never grow new ones.

Besides, private landowners can never be trusted to manage their own property in a rational way. If you let Pacific Lumber have it's way, it would log these lands over and over again indefinitely.

Golly, if you understood these things, you'd change your name to Rainbow, and go live in a treehouse for a year, like all intelligent people do.
