Maybe it's just the way the thread was titled, Ron. It's my understanding the DC Chapter is an "FR Chapter" and purpose of this thread is enlisting FRN Chapters.

Given Jim's post, it would seem there's a difference of some sort.

I can understand a typo or misspelling where 20-dollar words are concerned but in the interest of clarity, it's probably a good idea to always make sure we've got our acronyms correct.

It's a little late for midterms, but perhaps by the next round of elections, the FRN will have at the ready the resources which will make it a most valuable resource for Chapters ... online contact information, legislation, legal caveats, regular newsletters, punch lists and the sort of calls to actions whereby the Network and its friends can come to the aid of individual campaigns -- like FR's longtime friend Bob Barr -- who are being targeted nationally for removal by the likes of the useful idiot Libertarians who oppose the WOD for all the wrong reasons.

Unless I'm mistaken, the FRN's purpose is to be of service as best they can to the Chapters. ("Managing" same being clearly out of the question given the legal arm's length between the FRN and the Chapters and the self-governance of the Chapters which ensures the effectiveness that is Subsidiarity rather than some common-denominator top-down homogenousness.) I still have every expectation the FRN will earn a reputation for excellence in this regard once they've had the time to establish themselves and build the resources, contacts and communication pipelines necessary.

In any case, I'm sorry I opened the thread at all and can assure you -- had it been properly titled -- I'd have just passed it by since I'm not in a position to head up a chapter in Louisiana ... although it's a certainty I would participate in and support one as best I could were one started.

I'll be spending tomorrow canvassing my neighborhood with flyers for one local campaign in which I'm particularly interested (Juvenile Court). Lots of folks like me out here who are ready, willing and able to get involved in local campaigns to elect the best man possible ... whether or not it's always a Republican. If there's room for those of us who believe actions speak louder than words (or an "R" behind a candidate's name), we can't wait to be a part of whatever local chapter joins the FRN.

It's all dialectical polka 101.

Let's not over-intellectualize this thread. Concealing one's agenda is an age-old tactic. Having said that, you should be aware that you run the risk of appearing arrogant to assume that others' questions are not honestly motivated.

I remember having an earlier conversation with you about the relationship between FRN and the chapters. I asssure you my question was not motivated by deviousness.

I suspect that part of the problem inherent in your project is that it is very difficult to assess another's character without significant face-to-face time.

Good morning! I just thought I'd post this happy, cheerful post from someone who actually *is* a member of the DC Chapter saying that best of luck with this project. I agree with you that all these nebulous questions aren't very productive and I'd just note that you're not seeing us DC Chapter members posting any dark thoughts. Let the record show: we're off on another post working on a protest but a week away here. Lord knows when we'll even have time to catch our breadth and think through organizational structure issues over here in DC: judge us by our activism results, not the slowness of our organizational deliberations!! :)

:::uploading happy thoughts to the thread:::

I got a typically gracious request from one of your Chapter members asking -- not in so many words =) -- that I please shut the hell up lest folks think I'm speaking on your behalf. No doubt there are those who might draw the wrong conclusions or might again become confused somehow on that score.

While indeed there is no easier way to provoke me than to cast the slightest doubt on the integrity, objectives or commitment of folks I love, it's true I'm just an honorary member and am not speaking "for" you by any stretch of the imagination.

(Despite Torie's characterization of my posts as "Delphic", I'm not psychic and don't "channel" well.)

So ... best of luck with your busy fall schedule for midterms and rest assured I'll be doing my best to make it back for a FReep one of these days.

Until then, will be sitting on my hands like a good girl and simply hoping for the best where all members of all things "Free Republic" are concerned.

Shouldn't it be "Join an FR Chapter Today"?

The Free Republic Network
The Front Line of Conservative Activism

As I mentioned in my last response, you're a capable individual.  We've met and talked.  We've talked on the forum.  I'm sure this thread title and opening left no doubt that it was seeking to further the FreeRepublic Network's goal of developing more chapters across the nation.  Regardless of whether an FRN or FR appeared in the title, other data made it abundantly clear what the goal was and who was initiating that objective.

Given Jim's post, it would seem there's a difference of some sort.

I believe a careful reading of Jim's comments on this thread would indicate that he desires everyone to gather under the FRN banner for activism.  Most have done that and a few have been unable to do so.  That is the only difference I am able to see.  Personalities aside, I believe that the DC Chapter and the FRN have tried to make the best of this situation.  I know as well as you do that there have been comments back and forth.  But those who seek to support conservatism will sooner or later put aside personality issues and return to the main objective.  I believe that the DC Chapter probably feels that way and I'm sure the FRN does.  Our long term goals are likely very similar since our common adversary is liberal marxism and a federal government which knows no limits.

I can understand a typo or misspelling where 20-dollar words are concerned but in the interest of clarity, it's probably a good idea to always make sure we've got our
acronyms correct.

I must admit that I am truly sorry if you were led astray by the omission of the "N".

It's a little late for midterms, but perhaps by the next round of elections, the FRN will have at the ready the resources which will make it a most valuable resource for
Chapters ... online contact information, legislation, legal caveats, regular newsletters, punch lists and the sort of calls to actions whereby the Network and its friends can
come to the aid of individual campaigns -- like FR's longtime friend Bob Barr -- who are being targeted nationally for removal by the likes of the useful idiot Libertarians who oppose the WOD for all the wrong reasons.

The FRN has been developing relationships with other organizations.  Those who attended the FRiva Las Vegas Conference learned that we are devising ways to address every issue you have raised here.  I'm sorry you were unaware of that.  I would encourage everyone to become involved in the FRN, so that they will be up to date on what is taking place and be able to tap into the resources that are being developed.

Unless I'm mistaken, the FRN's purpose is to be of service as best they can to the Chapters. ("Managing" same being clearly out of the question given the legal arm's
length between the FRN and the Chapters and the self-governance of the Chapters which ensures the effectiveness that is Subsidiarity rather than some
common-denominator top-down homogenousness.) I still have every expectation the FRN will earn a reputation for excellence in this regard once they've had the time to establish themselves and build the resources, contacts and communication pipelines necessary.

See, you are aware of what the FRN's goals are.  But I am surprised that you didn't know that the FRN has already earned a reputation for excellence in this regard.  Ask people who attended the FRiva Las Vegas Conference if they liked the programs and direction the FRN is headed in.  I think you'll find that folks who have joined with the FRN are happy with the direction things are headed in, and expect the FRN to become even more effective over time.

In any case, I'm sorry I opened the thread at all and can assure you -- had it been properly titled -- I'd have just passed it by since I'm not in a position to head up a
chapter in Louisiana ... although it's a certainty I would participate in and support one as best I could were one started.

This is the third paragraph in which you addressed the title of this thread.  Once again, I'm sorry you were confused, and I'm sure a nearby chapter would be glad to have you as a member.

I'll be spending tomorrow canvassing my neighborhood with flyers for one local campaign in which I'm particularly interested (Juvenile Court). Lots of folks like me out
here who are ready, willing and able to get involved in local campaigns to elect the best man possible ... whether or not it's always a Republican. If there's room for
those of us who believe actions speak louder than words (or an "R" behind a candidate's name), we can't wait to be a part of whatever local chapter joins the FRN.

As a person who voted for Pat Buchanan, and has been accepted into the FRN BoD, I can assure you there is room for people without a (R) behind their name, even though I still do have an (R) behind my name, although it is not a Republican (R).

Good look with your cavassing.  I support and applaud your efforts.

Interesting, if a bit overdue.

After all, you've been peeing copiously on just about every Network thread for months. You'd think someone in the DC Chapter would have wondered long ago about the benefits of having you act as their de-facto representative...

peeing copiously

As I said, I will do my best to leave your threads the exemplar of conservative moral values in action -- by word and by deed -- they are.

No need to draw me to one of your threads again, OPH style ... unless, of course, you're in need of a woman to argue the Right to Life, in which case I'll be at your service in a heartbeat.

Regards.

I've tried to apologize for butting in and take my leave from the thread at least twice now.

Could you not draw me BACK to the thread from now on?

With the exception of responding to OPH's pings and criticizing the advice given on debating abortion given in an offhand comment by an outsourced expert at FRiva (which most chose to take as some personal attack on the FRN instead of my usual "fixation" on human life as a UNIVERSAL right) I've actually tried to restrict myself to saying nothing if I couldn't say something nice.

If you'll remember (among your myriad personal attacks on me), even you were flabbergasted to see me talking up the FRN's efforts one evening.

Take your best shots, kiddo ... I'm not coming back again.
