What has happened to U.S.?
Me | 10/2/2002 | Me

What has happened to our image as a beacon of freedom, opportunity and the right way to live?

Much of the world fears or hates us. We have a proclaimed policy of attacking any country whose policies or regimes don't follow our dictates.

Why have we become the biggest bully in the world?

Can you site me a specific example of where we have bullied another democratic country?

Yugoslavia.

In fact we bombed them and supported Muslim terrorists.

Bully.

A person who habitually intimidates smaller or weaker.

Like we've done in Panama, Peru, Iran, VietNam etc etc.

Yup, go read Ugly American.

Been there, got paid, got burnt out, trashed the teeshirt.

When the regime not following our dictates equals 1000s of Americans dead, yeah.

The Saudi regime seems to be relatively intact.

What happened to opposing and stopping those who would want to end these things?

American foreign policy in a nutshell:
1) The United States of America treats it's declared enemys like crap.
2) Our declared enemies don't like that.
3) Numbers 1 and 2 will never change.

We will never treat all nations, groups, and interests with equality because the vast majority of these nations, groups or interests are our gleeful allies on many issues, and the others are not.

Are you asking me to trust Pakistan as much as Canada?
No. Canada has EARNED our trust, Pakistan hasn't

Are you asking me to trust Saudi as much as the UK?
No. The good people accross the pond have done all the right things.

Are you asking me to trust Yemen as much as Mexico ?
No. Mexico is there for us, on our side, and Yemen, well they just aren't. furthermore this "equal foreign policy" thing is an argument to convince us to treat our declared enemies like allies, and our allies like declared enemies.

Bottom line? If you want to be treated like Canada by the united states, act like Canada.

Good man. Good arguements but look at our actions, both are disgraceful.

Because our enemies refuse to concede that our way works.

Why do we have so many enemies when we are such a great country? I think it is due to an imperial policy.

We have a stated policy of attacking countries who slaughter their own people and promise to do the same to us and the rest of the world. We have a long, distinguished history of coming to the aid of countries in need, far greater than any other country in the world. Sure, we've made mistakes and sometimes they were really big, but our record of good deeds far outweighs the bad. That there are people in this world who choose not to see this is simply testament to the fact that 20 percent of humanity reserve the right to be stupid.

What do you suggest we do? We have an enemy that has sworn by their God that they will, in his name, wipe out every last one of us who refuses to convert. This is an enemy that is eager to die for their cause. Indeed, the fastest way to Heaven for them is to go down taking with him/her as many "infidels" as possible.

They are in active pursuit of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction so that they can bring death to our cities in even greater numbers than they did in New York and Iraq is one of their most likely suppliers of such weapons. Shall we let them do so in the name of what, Tolerance? Understanding? Peace? They have given no indication they have any idea what these concepts are and you proclaim us to be the bad guys? Get real.

How many people must die before you will graciously consent to allow us to do something about this evil? Does New York have to vaporize under a mushroom cloud? Los Angeles? Chicago? All three? What if the entire East Coast comes down with Anthrax, Smallpox or the Plague? Millions would die but hey, at least those of us who survive will have the satifaction of knowing that the world doesn't view us as a bully, right? So you tell us, since you have all the answers, what should be our response to this evil? Sternly written letters to the editor?

The opinions of a handful of religious or political extremists do not determine how the majority of the world sees the US. Just because party members and mullahs spout off anti-US retoric does not mean the people of their nation hate us. They merely have little voice. Do you think North Korean defectors love their government? Iranian students? Vietnamese hill tribesmen? Do you think they hate the US? If they dislike us, it's becuase we haven't "interfered" with their nation, or we failed to carry out our "imperialist policies". If the US had been an evil imperialist power and taken down Suddam back during the Gulf War thousands of innocents would not have been slaughtered by a mad dictator and a nation would be free. I do not believe that the great masses of mankind desire tyranny and opression. But many have heard nothing else, and have no voice if they wish to disent and raise their voices in our favor- that is, in favor of freedom, for much of the world still sees the US as a place of freedom.
