Countdown To Victory

Top 10 Ways You Can Help Before Election Day

1 Join the Sign War
Place a sign in your yard or office window. Drive around your neighborhood to make sure signs didn’t come down overnight. Make sure candidate signs are up and looking sharp.

2 Display a Bumer Sticker
Put a bumper sticker on your car or on a community bulletin board as a morale booster. (To avoid peeling off a sun-worn bumper sticker, tape it to the inside back window of your car.)

3Pass Out Campaign Literature
Walk your neighborhood with campaign literature and remind neighbors of the upcoming election. Your personal touch could help the swing voter turn out in the GOP’s favor. Take the kids and make it a family affair.

4 Mail in Absentee Ballots
Make sure your friends and neighbors send in their absentee ballots early.

5 Celebrate with Signs
Celebrate the democratic process. Gather your friends, find a busy intersection and wave yard signs to support your candidate. You’ll be reminding voters that the election is near and your candidate is the right choice.

6Serve as a 72-Hour Volunteer
HELP WANTED are the watch words in the last 72 hours before the election. Volunteer coordi- nators with each campaign or at the state party will let you know where you’re needed most.

7 Work the Polls
Working with your local campaign or state party, get a list of targeted voters and check this list Top 10 Ways You Can Help Before Election Day against the official polling place list to make sure targeted voters have voted.

8 Help with 72-Hour Flushing
The 72-Hour Flushing staff uses the targeted voter information to “flush out” those Republican voters who have not voted. Contact your state party to find out how you can help get these Republican voters to the polls on Election Day.

9Make the Call
Call friends and neighbors to remind them to vote. Local campaigns and state parties can provide lists of targeted households. Volunteering at a phone bank can also be a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to meet other Republicans in your area.

10 Act as a Designated Driver
Drive volunteers to targeted precincts and get voters to the polls.

"You should change your name because you are no Liberal Loather with a comment like that since Gore is one of the biggest Liberals around!"

I think that was sarcasm.

Barbara Bush speaks out for John Cornyn

The Associated Press
By Anita Chang
October 15, 2002

Barbara Bush on Tuesday became the latest Bush family member to help state Attorney General John Cornyn in his bid for a U.S. Senate seat.

"We need a senator who's close to the president, can work with the president, and the president needs John Cornyn," she told supporters during a fund-raising luncheon at the Fort Worth Club.

The event follows a Cornyn fund-raiser last week in Houston headlined by President Bush's nephew, George P. Bush. He is the son of Jeb Bush, the governor of Florida.

Other Bush family members who have campaigned for Cornyn include President Bush, former President Bush and first lady Laura Bush. Vice President Dick Cheney and Bush senior adviser Karen Hughes have also come to Texas to throw their support behind Cornyn.

Barbara Bush pointed out that she usually does not campaign for candidates outside the family.

"I can honestly tell you except for two sons, I have not done much campaigning in the last 10 years, but I feel so strongly about John that I had to come here," she said.

Tickets were $250 per plate, and officials with the Cornyn campaign said they expect the event to raise $100,000 to $125,000.

While the Bushes have helped Cornyn, his Democratic opponent, Ron Kirk, has received fund-raising assistance out of state from national Democrats such as New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, former President Clinton and Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.

But Cornyn has the luxury of being a Republican candidate in a conservative state, according to political analysts. In addition, the Bush family's support for Cornyn just makes Kirk's campaign that much more difficult.

"When President Bush goes on Cornyn's television ads and says we need John Cornyn in the U.S. Senate, there isn't a good way for Kirk to counter that," said Rice University political science professor Earl Black.

Justin Lonon, press aide to Kirk's campaign, said that although Barbara Bush is well respected, voters should not be swayed by the Bush family's influence.

"This is not a referendum on George Bush. This election is between Ron Kirk and John Cornyn, and given the choice between these two candidates, the choice is clear and voters will support Ron Kirk on Election Day," he said.

A large portion of Barbara Bush's brief speech included details of her recent family vacation in Maine.

And she brought a mother's perspective to the Senate race, noting that another Republican in Washington would greatly help her son's agenda.

"We've got to have John there, any mother will tell you, to help her boy," Bush said.

The Dewhurst race is critical. I suppose the state senate could vote to change the rules to strip the Lt. Gov of the ability to control the senate, but I don't know if we'll have enough votes to do it.

Best just to defeat Sharp up front.

Rep. Chambliss should be elected to the Senate to strengthen the president and assure strong support for sound constitutional principles.

Goodbye Max, we'll miss you .... NOT!

Way to go!! I'm working on bumper stickers right now -- it's not too hard. Office Depot sells the material and using my ink jet, I'm good! One question for all y'all -- where do you get the official signs?

I had the misfortune of viewing a political commercial early this morning which nearly made me vomit.

Was an attack against -- of all people -- Dubya.
Used smears frightfully familiar to those the Sink Emporer's campaign employed against George Sr, way back when in the early 90s.

Bottome line, this smear listed more bulleted doom & gloom accusations -- all economic in nature & all supposedly the fault of this POTUS -- than I thought possible for any one person to accumulate in an entire lifetime.
Then this ad piously states, "The Republicans would ask you to turn over a majority in both houses to Jr & his economic policies. Can you afford to do that?"

Interestingly enough, they're attacking a sitting POTUS in an effort to obscure the fact this election's about who'll be elected to the congress & the senate.

My only real question is this.
Just who in the hell "is" the organization responsible for funding this atrocity of an ad filled with lies, distortions & nontruths, anyway?

..."Mainstreet USA" >?<

Another idea on Bumper Stickers...I buy magnetic backing at the local print shop and STICK my bumper stickers on it, cutting it to shape. It then goes on the back of the trunk, can be removed at will with no damage, and is more visible than bumper or window stickers....

Freepers.......time is almost GONE to help Republicans WIN BACK the Senate! We need to contribute money NOW in order to help. I just gave $100 by credit card to the National Republican Senatorial Committe. Please match my challenge, or at least contribute something..

Click here to visit the NRSC to help.

If you prefer to give to individual campaigns, here is a GREAT site with discussion of the Senate races, including the 7 seats that are up for grabs. This site also has a link to each of the Senate campaign websites. One of the states will SURPRISE you!

Take back congress.org Will Daschle keep blocking the Bush judicial nominees? Will the Senate Democrats continue to BLOCK the entire Bush agenda, including making the tax cuts permanent?

It is up to US. If you live in one of the states with the 7 hot Senate races (AR, CO, MN, MO, NJ, NH, SD, WV) VOLUNTEER. Everyone can visit the websites above and DONATE.

Let's win the Senate BACK, Freepers!!

Yes the state Senate could change its rules, but which of Sharp's appointees do you think would champion that move? Sharp gets the election, we have real legislative problems.

Ever heard of Dick Tuck?

Found this:

As Nixon's political star began to rise, Tuck continued to torment him. In 1956 Nixon was running for reelection as Eisenhower's Vice President. The Republican Convention was being held in San Francisco that year, and Tuck learned that the route taken by garbage trucks going to the dump led them right past the convention center. Therefore, Tuck paid to have all the garbage trucks bear signs that read "Dump Nixon".
