Free Republic Network Board | 10/29/2002 | FR Network

Posted on 10/29/2002 10:18:08 AM PST by FR Network

Earlier this month, the Free Republic Network held its annual Board meeting. In addition to electing new officers, we have decided to rework our Board and operational structure a bit. The new FRN Board of Directors consists of nine members: Interesting Times (Chairman), Skeet (Executive Director), Diotima, Bob J, MinuteGal, DoughtyOne, Nick Danger, Seeking the Truth and Abner.

We are also forming a new FRN Executive Team to help plan and organize events, design and implement services for FR Chapters, and to work with FRN Strategic partners such as the ACU and the Leadership Institute. Upcoming FRN-hosted events include CPAC 2003 in Washington DC, a Freeps Ahoy cruise to be announced shortly, and our yearly conference next fall. We're also looking for volunteer writers and fundraisers. Naturally, all members of the Executive Team will learn the secret FRN handshake and be given their own decoder ring. If you'd like to help us support conservative activism, drop us a line at frn@freeper.org.

The Free Republic Network organizes, trains and supports conservative activists, and connects other conservative organizations with grassroots groups across the country that share their goals. There are currently 49 local and issue-based Chapters affiliated with the FRN.

The ACU is the American Conservative Union HERE.

CPAC, Conservative Political Action Conference is organized by the ACU. CPAC WEBSITE

Every year FR has a booth at CPAC and this year will be no different. Take a look at the CPAC website and see if you are interested in attending, if you are in the DC area already, you should go! It is an fantastic time. In about two weeks, we will be promoting CPAC on the website here, with more information about it and we will probably hold a contest to give away two platinum packages to the conference.

I see those "legal" reperesentatives at the LA freeps as well...strange stuff.

Good to know. I'm local so I could go without the hotel expense. There's 2 things I definitely want to go to this year -- the Media Research Awards and CPAC. I had a vague sense they were coming up.

Cool. What about a humor contest,. "Top Ten Reasons I should get to go?" (I've already clicked on the site and seen that ACU is giving away student scholarships to CPAC -- so if anyone knows of a worthy conservative student, we should clue them in to that.)

Which one of them are you?

Interesting Times.

Jim gave us "FR Network" to use as a generic handle for Network announcements, so it has been used by several different people.

(posting as me again)

Here are a couple of threads I found from CPAC 2002:

Live from CPAC I

Live from CPAC II

I've been going to CPAC for a number of years, and it's always worthwhile. Lots of serious conservative pols, activists, writers, thinkers, media types, and a surprising number of college kids. Possibly the best part, though, is having a drink after hours with one's fellow freepers.

If you can make it, the first round's on me.

I thought the booth was, and has been in past years, hosted by FRN = Free Republic Network?

Regards,

TS

Last year was the first year the FRN hosted (paid, financed, organized) the booth. The year before that, there was no official Network (Jan. 2001), the booth was operated by FR volunteers (as it was last year and will be this year)and organized by Bob. Once the Network was formed, Bob shared the the "responsibility" of organizing the booth with the Network Leadership.

So that's what you guys have been up to since the FRN conference in August.

FRN seriously needs to beef up intra-chapter communications. The "stovepipe" model doesn't encourage cooperative activities and does allow "personalities" to dominate chapter communications, leaving little motivation for FReepers to join stagnant FRN chapters.

I am in the process of talking Victim of Circumstance into bringing the US Flag Balloon to CPAC.

Even if we could just stand it up for the FReepers, it could be a great thing for ALL of FReeperdom if we could bring it out. If we could fly it for any distance- it would be amazing!

We have some logistics to work out, but I think it could be done and make a huge splash for the Network and for Free Republic.

That would be great! I'm still bummed we didn't get to go up in the balloon last month. :(

Next time!

Every year FR[N] has a booth at CPAC and this year will be no different.

I've always wanted to attend the CPAC event, but it always conflicts with my annual sojourn to Cancun, Mexico.

Thanks for the announcement. Best wishes this year to all of you FRN guys!

That would be great!

I'm guessing the closest place to set up might be one of the parks in Arlington. The Crystal Gateway Marriott is pretty flexible, but I suspect even they might draw the line at having a 53x78x29 foot balloon in their main ballroom...
