Freepers I am looking to buy a pre-owned American Car
myself ^ | 11 Saturday 2003 | Trueblackman

Posted on 01/11/2003 10:38:40 AM PST by Trueblackman

Well Freepers after 212334 miles I think my Honda Accord has final given up the ghost. I promised myself that I would by an American Made Car(AMC)this time around and since I value the opinions of my fellow Freepers I thought I would ask you. I don't want to pay over $14,000, I am looking for something a little sporty and somthing in a 2 door.

The Spartanburg plant makes Z4's convertibles (der Z3 ist kaput, and there is no hardtop Z4), and X5's, the two cars with the heaviest percentage of US sales. The 3 series coupe and sedan are made in Germany.

That said, you could get a good late 90's 3 series sporty sedan from a private seller for around 14-15K with 50-70K miles, depending on where you live.

Happy Hunting,

Michael,
'01 Z3, and '01 5 series wagon.

2002 was last model year for the F-bodies (R.I.P). Sis-in-law has a very tweaked 2002 Formula that puts about 400 HP at the rear wheels. It's absolutely nuts.

Regards,

Michael

How about a Radio, Airbags, and Wipers with it?

"I think I can toss in a Walkman, bubblewrap and
some handi-wipes and still keep it under $14K...
Do we have a deal?"
(Go ahead, kick those tires first if you want...
Whoops... wait a sec... let me get off first...
OK, Now you can kick 'em...)

Saturn is one of the highest proportion AMC cars. The small ones are 97+% American made and the new larger models are US made with the engine made in England.

Buy one of their SUV's, they're quick (the 6 cyls), get reasonable fuel economy, look good and will do the off road bit...

No Detroit car will provide the same value.

Accords are made in the USA..... buy another Honda.

And the profits go to Japanese investors. Who do you think owns Honda? Americans? Nope. Do they spend their profits and dividends here? No, because they don't live here. Yes, Honda does invest here but profits go to Japan. Same for Toyota etc.

Recently (before all this SUV stuff) I had an encounter with this White leftist/liberal woman stranger in San Francisco while at a street corner.

This big SUV with "mile high" tires (you know, the body sitting way up off these huge tires) came by, and she started RANTING out loud about the way it looked, and the environment, the government, etc., etc. To me, it portrayed strength, power, America. I told her basically to f - off.

And, as it went by us, guess who happened to be driving?! A Black man! : ) I don't know if she saw him, but, I wonder if she would have changed her tune if she did?!

Are you kidding? I've seen pictures of you. They don't make an Accord that big:)

I have a sedan for sale in Texas but it's a few thousand more than you want to spend. You would easily fit in it and the good part is that nobody could pull you over because they could not catch you.

"...after 212334 miles ... my Honda Accord..."

...my Toyota Camry is up to 159,000 miles..."

And my Volkswagen Jetta is at 188,000. It seems FReepers are frugal people.

It seems FReepers are frugal people.

One day a few years ago my 1991 Ford Explorer hit 250,000 (FRugal is right!) in the morning and at lunchtime I went out and bought a new 1999 Explorer.

Sounds good for Explorers, but, note for Kevin: While the 1991 gave me no trouble to speak of, the 1999 needed a new engine at 10,000, new transmission at 50,000, had the famous Firestone tire fiasco, etc. - so I'd be wary of recent US built products. Now at 105,000 it seems to have settled down. But what's really amazing is that it survives on the streets of San Francisco with a Bush-Cheney and a USA flag sticker on the bumper!

We've got a used lovely Ford for sale. Right in that price range, too! Heck, we'll go as low as $1,000. It has 2 more doors than you requested and if you stretch it view it correctly, it could be sporty! Yep.

Get a Camry Solara. They're built in Kentucky, just like my wife's Camry sedan. Accords are built in Ohio.

Or, you could wait a while and score a Toyota truck built right here in San Antonio.

Do NOT worry! My $1,000 car will be paid for, free and clear, with your first payment.

Ok, Ok, I'll go away now

"I'm afraid those options won't be available until the new model year.
But did I mention its towing capabilities?"
