What was your favorite quote from the SOTU tonight?
January 28, 2003

Posted on 01/28/2003 9:02:55 PM PST by Indy Pendance

And why. Why do you believe in that particular quote? How does it affect conservatism? How does it affect our war on Terror? How does it affect 8 years of the previous socialist/communist state we were supposed to embrace?

1. "We will not pass along our problems to other Congresses, other Presidents, other Nations." (Great jab at Clintoon...)

2. "If this tax cut is good for Americans, 3, 5, or 7 years from now, it is good for Americans today!"

3. The best way to address the deficit and move toward a balanced budget is to encourage economic growth and to show some spending discipline in Washington, D.C."

4. "Instead of bureaucrats and trial lawayers and HMOs, we must work put doctors and nurses and patients back in charge of American medicine."

5. "No one has ever been healed by a frivolous lawsuit"

6. "... a SECURE Israel and a DEMOCRATIC Palestine..."

7. "One by one, the terrorists are learning the meaning of American justice!"

8. "Free people will set the course of history."

9. "America's purpose is more than to follow a process. It is to achieve a result."

10. "America will not be blackmailed!"

11. "108 UN inspectors were not sent [to Iraq] for scavanger hunt."

12. "For the brave and oppressed people of Iraq, your enemy is not surrounding your country. Your enemy is ruling your country. And the day he and his regime are removed from power will be the day of your liberation."

13. My personal favorite: "The course of this nation does not depend on the decisions of others."

Probably off-topic on this thread, but I loved William Bennett's question to Alan Colmes on H&C. Colmes was defending Susan Sarandon's anti-war bleatings, noting that her question "What did Iraq ever do to us?" had not been answered.

Bennett retorted, "Well, what did Hitler ever do to us?"

All that's missing is your requirement that the answer be at least 1,000 words.

There were so many, but I think one of the most powerful was the statement to the people of Iraq:

"Your enemy isn't surrounding your country. Your enemy is ruling your country."

"And tonight I have a message for the brave and oppressed people of Iraq: Your enemy is not surrounding your country - your enemy is ruling your country. And the day he and his regime are removed from power will be the day of your liberation."

"Tonight I also have a message for the men and women who will keep the peace, members of the American Armed Forces: Many of you are assembling in and near the Middle East, and some crucial hours may lie ahead. In those hours, the success of our cause will depend on you. Your training has prepared you. Your honor will guide you. You believe in America, and America believes in you."

HOOAH! Mr. President. Well said.

"Whatever action is required, whenever action is necessary, I will defend the freedom and security of the American people."

How can ANYONE who is not a brain-damaged RAT doubt this man's leadership?

OK here is the exact quote

"All told, more than 3,000 suspected terrorists have been arrested in many countries. Many others have met a different fate. Let's put it this way -- they are no longer a problem to the United States and our friends and allies."

I'll start:

"The first thing we do," said the character in Shakespeare's Henry VI, is "kill all the lawyers."

We need tort reform. I like to call it lawyer reform. The high cost of everything can be directly attributed to lawyers. Think, what hasn't been sued. And as GWB stated tonight, 'no one was healed from a frivolous law suit'

That resonated with the people. Not the Washington big-wigs, but us. Normal everyday people going about our daily lives and wondering why our insurance company needs 43 pieces of paperwork to get an ear infection cured. The current situation health care isn't about socalizing medicine, it's letting doctors practice medicine. Let them be doctors. They will make mistakes. There human. Unfortunatly, people will die while under a doctors' care. Does the general population really think a doctor wants their patient to die or to have medical problems for the rest of their lives?

Let me go to MY doctor, and get treatment.

Tort reform should apply to all industies.

I loved that speech. I rate it along side the Gipper's best. Heartfelt and right to the point. Wow! I start getting watery eyes just thinking about it. God Bless President Bush. Eight years of Clinton was worth enduring to have somebody this good at the top.

"The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift to humanity."

Why? Because it echoes the words of the founders of this nation - all men are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights - and anchors the morality of what this Commander in Chief is prepared to do.

For you, you are allowed 14. No more, no less. ;)

I've read a lot of threads on this forum, a lot. I'd like to hear logical opinions, not one line retorts that are cute.

"We seek peace. We strive for peace. And sometimes peace must be defended. A future lived at the mercy of terrible threats is no peace at all."

"If war is forced upon us, we will fight in a just cause and by just means, sparing, in every way we can, the innocent."

"And if war is forced upon us, we will fight with the full force and might of the United States military, and we will prevail."

My favorite speech of all time was the Gettysburg Address until this evening. I am still numb from it. I haven't been moved so much in a long time.

Thanks, it's not off topic, but not quite there. If you want to elaborate, please, I'd love to hear your opinions. Like I said before, I'd like to hear logical opinions, why did this strike you as important? How does this relate to the current administration and the near future political implications?
