The left /fascist 'peace' coalition
The Washington Times ^ | 3-17-03 | Martin Gross

At first glance, the events surrounding the Iraq affair seem quite bizarre. America, which provided the main power in defeating fascism in Germany, Italy and Japan in World War II, then defeated Soviet totalitarianism in the Cold War and has been the stalwart proponent of peace and democracy in the world since — as evidenced by the Balkans, Kosovo and Afghanistan — now stands under attack from much of the world. The streets of Europe, which we freed from tyranny, are now filled with protests against America's attempt to deactivate the classical secular fascist Saddam Hussein.

This article explains in simple terms why the left offers knee-jerk opposition to this war, and in the process explains much more than that.

It's not just the left that opposes this war. Read this item about Buchanan.

How is it the "peaceniks" think Saddam is NOT a threat but somehow Solobodan Milosevic was?

What "left" are you talking about? Surely, not Blair's Labour Party a member of the Socialist International in good standing, or the "new Europe" allies of Poland, Slovakia, and Hunrary (ruled by former commie surrender monkeys who are also members of the Socialist International). Could you mean Chirac who defeated the Socialist party last year much to the applause of the freepers?

As I have said a few times....I believe we are witnessing the the final throes of a drowning man!!! The leftists in the 'RATS party here in the US have gotten about as far as they can...hence now we see the emergence of the Green Party. The majority of America is middle of the road and I believe conservative. The 'Rats have not gotten this...they got a bunch of the socialism they craved enacted into law in the last 50 years. But they keep pushing, I for one believe that Joe 6 pack is finally looking around and saying..."What are you nuts"?? (to another call for liberal handouts, anti-americanism, anti-military,etc,etc)

The President enjoys unprecedented popularity, why? I believe for the same reasons Ronald Reagan did...the American people trust him to put them and this nation above himself. They believe that he actually believes in the oath he took.

I keep coming back to it, because it is a simple analogy...The left is drowning...so they act accordingly.

They do not think anyhing of the sort. If a leftist President(Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter) were leading this fight(I know that sounds oxymoronic)they would be all for it. Since it only seems to be Republican/Conservative President who fight though....they are against it.

Why this opposition to the elimination of fascist Iraq? Wasn't the left supposed to be genetically opposed to fascism in all forms?

This is where the author trips up.  While the left impulsively denies it's Fascist roots to the point where it chronically smears any opponent with the accusation, there, in truth, is little if any difference between the left and Fascists.

Both are based on the core belief that the general populace is stupid and unable to make decisions for themselves.  The "solution" to this dilemma is to have a strong, centralized government which oversees all aspects of a person's life.  Liberty, freedom, and human rights are all nasty little vices that distract the g/p from fulfilling the greater plan of society.

The left has never had any problems making alliances of convenience with Fascists. Stalin made a pact with Hitler. It's real freedom they fear, because it shows them up for what they are.

Of course their primary motivation is simply getting back into power. And to do that, they need to discredit Bush.

I suppose the "knee-jerk" adjective would refer to the extreme left, who oppose only the wars of Republican presidents. You are correct in your assessment of Blair's and Chirac's origins but haven't they gone in opposite directions since 9-11? Blair to the right and Chirac to the anti-war camp?

Was opposition to the Kosovo war "right" or "left?" At the time, of course, conservatives led the opposition. They would be leading now too if the man in the oval office was Al Gore! Having said that, I would argue that the right and left dichotomy doesn't work in this case. There are very good "right wing" reasons to oppose this war IMHO?

I snet this article to the rest of clan noumenon with the following commentary:

This is where I strongly disagree with the author of this article. The liberal/socialist Left can only achieve their utopian dreams of power and control at the barrel of a gun. They do not tolerate anyone who disagrees with them – a fact that you will discover once you hit the university. Opinions outside the liberal/socialist orthodoxy are shouted down and otherwise attacked. Speakers advocating ideas essential to individual freedom and responsibility have been assaulted on college campuses; college newspapers that dare to print anything other than liberal/socialist, America-hating ideas are routinely stolen and burned by the liars and haters on the liberal/Left. This isn’t hyperbole or exaggeration – these are well-documented cases and there are many of them. The great irony is that those who howl the most about ‘free speech’ and civil rights are those who are the first to deny them to those with whom they disagree.

Consider this: those who support monsters and murderers, those who, by their actions provide them with aid and comfort are as guilty as the monsters themselves. The blood of those slaughtered by the communist/socialist dictators of the 20th Century is on the hands of those in this country who excused their actions and applauded them. If a liberal socialist denies that the blood of innocents is on their hands, ask them this: “Are you saying, then that the people who attended the 1930s Nurembug rallies of the National Socialist Party of Germany, the people who cheered themselves hoarse and applauded them with the rapt expressions of the true believer weren’t in any responsible for what the Nazis did? Are you saying that the German people didn’t have any say in putting the Nazis into power? Are you telling me that it was nobody’s fault and that the Nazis just flew down in flying saucers and took over, Darth Vader-like?”

The answer, of course, is that nothing of the sort happened - it took an entire culture to empower monsters like the Nazis. Eric Voegelin, one of the great philosophers of the late, lamented 20th Century tells us that the rise of the Nazis and the unspeakable atrocities that they committed were not the product of one madman nor even of a deranged elite – it was necessary for German society as a whole to participate and to enable the slaughter of 21 million people in the camps and by the Einsatzgruppen. Voegelin tells us that it was a spiritual disease that allowed the German society of the time to give free reign to the Nazis – and that even though the Germans lost the war, the roots of that same spiritual disease remained intact. Goes a long way towards explaining why the Germans aren’t helping us now, doesn’t it?  The smug, America-hating intellectuals in the universities and the howling anti-war mobs in the streets all share the common pedigree of that same spiritual malaise. It’s why you cannot reason or argue with them. They’re really not interested in the truth. They’re not interested in reason. They don’t care about what’s right and what’s wrong – they claim that the concepts of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ are the products of ignorance and bigotry.

They are all interested in power, however. And that’s the power they crave to remake the world in the image of their sick, Utopian dreams. Again, the sad, sorry history of the 20th Century shows that every time the Utopian power-lusters got the upper hand, millions of people died, and millions more lived in poverty, ignorance and slavery.

That’s the pedigree of the Left, dear family.  It’s a legacy of mass murder and slavery, a heritage of slaughter and impoverishment – and a promise of more of the same if they ever get the upper hand again.  And that’s why we must all stand up and fight these murderous bastards with everything we have.  There’s no curing the spiritually ill of their disease.  They can neither be argued nor reasoned out of it. They can only be fought. One of the great lessons of history is that those who failed to speak up, those who lacked the courage to fight came to no good end. It’s better to die with a rifle in your hands than to look at the world through someone else’s barbed wire. But it’s even better to make those with the barbed wire ambitions die before they can put up the fences and put others – and you – behind them.

That's a keeper. If the left does regain power, they'll try to nail a lid on it for good.

That's because they are, root and branch, the same rotton fruit of the philosophically and spiritually diseased tree.

Our choice may just be as simple as bullets now or barbed wire later. If folks think that the Patriot Acts are scary, just think of that apparatus of the State in the hands of the Left. That's beyond scary.
