He was a heroin addict who was uncomfortable with his media star fame, he had a wife that he was having problems with, and had possibly made several suicide attempts prior to his death by rifle. And this makes him someone to hold up to as a "hero" for kids?

I'm just impressed that someone who was an avowed antigunner could hit anything with a rifle.

I agree with you. Some folks lump all this together without thinking that the motive for Rush was medical pain relief as opposed to those whose motive is pure pleasure. There is a world of difference in these two classes of addicts.

You done good dude !.......My addiction is to purdy girls, Meyers Rum, Corona Beer and anything that goes boom or bang ! It has been costly as well but short of some physical, financial (divorce) injuries never a long term health hazard per se so I can't relate to a "real" addiction like you have experienced and kicked.

My Respects sent Laz............STAY SAFE !

Actually, my brothers and sisters at Narcotics Anonymous would beg to differ with you.

There is actually NO difference in both classes of addicts except motivation.

And whatever the motivation was, the motivation is now addiction.

There is virtually nothing that Rush could do to lower himself down to the depths beneath the bottom inhabited by the blood-sucking scum-bag status of Democrats, especially the ones who would like to have the power of elected office.

Power seeking Democrats are the next to the lowest form of human life in the United States. Only terrorists, maybe not even terrorists, are worse.

"...The housekeeper has made accusations, nothing more..."

I've actually read the supermarket magazine report. The housekeeper has e-mails that were reproduced, in full color. They show Rush e-mailing back and forth with her, about some pretty staggering numbers of pills. He paid her a hundred thousand dollars, then had his attorney sign a receipt for the money as though she was 'getting a personal loan' from him, that (of course), she'd never have to pay back. Rush's conduct does not at all appear exemplary, in this piece.

The article has been out now, for a week or 10 days, and it took him this long to admit his problem. He never went on record with any serious or substantive denials, and the piece has been characterized (I can't remember where) as being an "extremely accurate" job of reporting. All he's had to say is that there are 'some inaccuracies', but that can't be challenged because he's not said what they might be.

Personally, I have to admit that I've listened more for entertainment, stuck in traffic, than for information or any kind of enlightenment. Rush has mostly struck me as being too emotional, a little too sure of himself, and more than a little too glib.

I have to wonder how much of that came from the opiates, in the quantities that he was apparently using.

I know I'm not the right person to judge, though, because I haven't been a consistent listener. The only example I can think of is about 3 weeks or a month ago, out of the middle of nowhere, he announced that there was a report out, from SKYnews (the U.K. cousin of FOXnews), that there was an accident involving a plane in Scotland, and 'the Dixie Chicks were apparently on board'... or something like that. The next day, of course, I looked in the paper and there was nothing. The Chicks are still with us. What happened was that a wing of their private jet clipped a building, after they'd already landed and were taxiing in. Not a life-threatening event. But that's what Rush made it sound like. And I was kind of turned off by the apparent satisfaction in Rush's voice, making that report of a report, of the possibility of their passing. It just sounded strange, and it was definitely a highly edited version of that news account.

Not that big a deal, but I remember it bothering me at the time, before any of this stuff about the drug use came out.

Think of being in a really dark pit. Think of that pit being covered so no light gets in. Then subtract light, warmth, and comfort. Multiply feelings of helplessness and despair until you are one trigger squeeze from suicide.

Then add messing up other peoples lives, and not really knowing how or what to do about it.

That captures about 10% of the anguish of being a drug addict.

It ain't pretty.

By the way:

purdy girls, and anything that goes ... bang !

Redundant.

My Respects sent Laz............STAY SAFE !

Thanks, brother Squantos. Never change. You're my favorite turd.

That's right. The original motivation is quite different. They are two quite different classes of addicts. Glad that you agree with me.

I don't agree with you. Not even slightly.

I, an addict, any many other hundreds of thousands like me who attend Narcotics Anonymous see no differnce in fellow addicts despite their orignal, now meaningless motivations.

In fact, we believe that so strongly, we don't even want to know what drugs you used, how, how much or how often. You are an addict; so are we. That's all we need to know.

Having had, (now deceased from stomach aneurysm), a sister really addicted to oxycontin, I can tell you Rush NEVER sounded off or in La La land... this man may be addicted, in that he never has stopped taking whatever, but it wasn't noticeable in his work or demeanor... My sister was irrational and couldn't possibly of handled the stresses of Limbaugh's job. I trust him in that all of us have had problems, some handle better than others. His body may need healing, safely, from meds, but his mind is sound.
He has never been a lier or without character when it comes to his job.

Hi Richard. This thread about Rush's confession gave me the courage to go public about my addiction. From that confession, I draw some strength. Now, revelations about it are meaningless; and I prove that one can be a recovering drug addict and still be smart, funny, devestatingly handsime and a loser um, I mean successful.

There is actually NO difference in both classes of addicts except motivation.

And whatever the motivation was, the motivation is now addiction.

I don't say this in an accusing manner (and I know a number of people who use drugs regularly even though I have not touched them or been interested in them).

Does a recreational drug user (whether he is abusing Xanex or street drugs) consider it an addiction at any time before he tries to quit?

Even those who take pain medications may consider their daily regiment of pills "necessary". There certainly are medications which are prescribed for daily use for years (that just don't have the "feel good" aspects of pain killers). Can one be addicted to beta blockers? Should the taking of such a medication for years (or forever) be considered an addiction if the prescription is made to counteract a biological flaw (say the production of too much adrenalyne)?

I'm just asking. When in the user's mind (legal/illegal notwithstanding) does use get classified as addiction?

I imagine that at the point that the user "sees" it as addiction, the addiction has probably been there awhile (an possibly even observed by those around him). This is even true of alcoholism.

Jeez... what an A-hole... my sister had VALID prescriptions for Oxycontin for years!!!! Its what finally killed her. I don't understand why he would have to revert to the street. I really don't believe it. As for Kerry, he will burn in hell anyway... Never will this man go anywhere... He has the clinton's to deal with. Poetic justice here.
