Rush probably enjoyed and gain much profit from his habit.

What a vote of confidence.

Please tell me whose lives, Rush has ruined, other than his own and Marta's.

Did he break into a house with a gun, shoot an old lady, and steal money?

Many drug users have done none of those things, yet face the threat---and sometimes the reality---of imprisonment and property confiscation. Are you saying that drug users who do not violate the rights of others should be left alone? Or just Rush?

Sorry

About what?

Doctors today and in the past have given subscriptions with sufficient refills to addict many folks.

You think?

LOL, they have half the population hooked....

Most people who quit don't quit on their first try. That's just the way it is.

When Rush played a nugget of Seger's "Fire Inside," he dedicated the day's program "to all the long-haired, maggot-infested, dope-smoking FM types." - http://www.metroactive.com/papers/cruz/08.28.97/limbaugh-9735.html

For at least six years of that time Rush has been eating powerful narcotics, often illegally obtained, like they were Skittles.

Of course, you know that they were illegally obtained. Feh.

I hate to say this, and I don't intend to be mean spirited at all:

Consider that he bought what appears to be a tremendous amount of pills, maybe he's got enough stored for a lifetime, and the rehab is just a court mandated activity?

Like some of the other posters said, this pain just isn't going to go away tomorrow. What is he going to do? No one can live in that kind of pain, even minor back pain episodes can be horrendus for a short period of time.

Fellow dopers? So someone who gets addicted because he's taking pills for pain is equivalent to someone who smokes dope for fun? I don't think so.

Perhaps you haven't listened to him as much as I have. I've heard it a LOT of times.

I've been listening to Rush consistently since April 1990. I cannot recall him ever forthrightly addressing drug addiction. Not once.

He's not long-haired, maggot infested, nor is he dope smoking. he's addicted to PRESCRIPTION pain killers. He's not some homeless, wino living on the street or on the public hand-out.

The ultimate hypocrisy are those who accuse others of hypocrisy while not supporting the underlying moral claim.

Nonsense. I'll happily condemn the hypocrisy of an "animal rights" windbag who eats meat, although I do not support his claims.

We are seeing how compassionate the LEFT will be.

We are seeing how compassionate some of our bretheren on the right are right here. I guess it's far easier for some to kick a good man when he's down than to offer him compassion.

It's likely he hasn't ruined Marta's or his own life yet, or at the very least it remains salvageable. With a little luck and a little faith he may come out stronger after all.

Did he break into a house with a gun, shoot an old lady, and steal money?

Careful Dane, my old friend, you're bordering a victimless crime stance here. :) In this instance, and as well that of Bill Bennett, vice is its own punishment.

"When Rush played a nugget of Seger's "Fire Inside," he dedicated the day's program "to all the long-haired, maggot-infested, dope-smoking FM types."

Interesting. I suppose by this logic that you believe Rush simultaneously called all people who have long hair "maggot-infested" as well.

It's amazing how liberals are incapable of understanding concepts like "and" and "or". I've noted that 90% of liberal argumentation can be shot down by paying attention to their deliberate evasion of those concepts.

Why would they confiscate his property? He hasn't been charged with anything.

Being "charged" is no longer a requirement for Property seizure, hasn't been for some time now. Ask any of hundred's of regular Americans. Blackbird.

This isn't meant as an excuse for (or an attack on) Rush, just an observation.

We are so "medication-oriented" that I can't believe it. There are "legal" pills for everything. If you are sad, there is a pill. If you are fat, there is a pill. If you are hurting, there is a pill. If you don't sit still in class, there is a pill. If you get allergies, there is a pill. If you can't perform sexually, there is a pill. If you can't sleep, there is a pill. If you can't stay awake, there is a pill. If you want your hair to be fuller, there is a pill. And, if somebody decides that one pill works for other stuff, then there's a new pill for all that other stuff, too.

This is not right and it is not of God.

JMO Jane, but forget about using reason with Leroy. He's going to stick to Rush's problem and frailties, like Hillary sticks to Bill.

It's his mental meal ticket.

Don't tell me, you now find this hard to believe?

You haven't been around many people with a big problem have you?

Hell, celebrities and the kids of high rolling politicians break the law routinely to get their fix....Happens all the time.....
