Some rocks exposed to the sun for a very long time turn dark. It might not be "pitch".

Well, it certainly is the right location for it if in fact this is it. However, just how does a team of American Christians go to Iran to look for the Ark? I'm guessing that visas would be out of the question...

Petrified animals?
1. Why were animals left aboard the Ark?
2. How long does it take to petrify animals?
3. Was anything ever pertified without being buried in mineral soil?

How would the ark petrify? It would have to be covered in sediment for eons while subsurface minerals gradually replaced the wood.
Was there another flood after Noah's flood that buried the ark?

Is this the ONLY ark that has been discovered in the area or ever been found for that matter? How common were arks?
Like old wooden kitchen chairs, everyone was using pretty much the same pattern. Why should arks be different?

Is this the same area that at one time contained a monastery?
Until some dating is done on the evidence, I won't jump for joy just yet.

This Cornuke expedition was also televised, or rather, there was a segment on it a week or two ago, according to one of the other threads.

Ancient Mesopotamian texts (pre-biblical) also refer to a great flood.
