The argument is often made that the Catholic Church gave us the Bible, but this could not be further from the truth. Only God could give us the Bible. It was originally authored by Him (II Tim. 3:16) and then preserved by Him (Psalm 12:6-7). The confusion, however, comes from the two streams of Scripture that came out of the Middle East after the time of Christ. The Christians were first called Christians at Antioch, where they diligently copied the Scriptures, and spread them throughout the world. However, Alexandria was the home of scholars who gloried in their knowledge (Jer. 9:24) rather than in Christ, and took copies of the perfect, preserved Word of God and changed them. One in particular, Origen, was extremely proactive in his aggressive revision of Gods Holy Words. His version combined his own works known as the Apocrypha with the Hebrew New Testament in a Greek version (the language of the proud intellectuals of Alexandria). But the Baptist sect known as the Vaudois, were speaking a new language Latin. They translated the pure Hebrew Scriptures into Latin, which became the world language, and carried them across the world. Rome, however, slaughtered the Christians in blatant persecution of these diligent carriers of Gods Holy Word.

WANT!
Did the Catholic Church Give Us the Bible?
No.
There were a number of church centers, but the 5 that rose to prominency were the ones I listed and were the main movers and shakers at different points in history.
Rome was often consulted because it was distant from the other four and was hoped to be impartial. Doesn’t mean it was always agreed with.
However that lasted till Rome tried to assert Papal supremacy, and the Eastern Orthodox told him to spit up a rope to start the Great Schism which never has been healed but on paper.
The may get along and they may take communion, but I guarantee you historians from the other sects do not and will not agree on and do not accept Roman primacy, nor will they ever.
It was this to which I referred.
Rome was often consulted because it was distant from the other four and was hoped to be impartial. Doesnt mean it was always agreed with.
No, the Arians, Nestorians, Monophysites, Monothelites, Pelagians, and a whole hairy horde of others did not agree with Rome. They were (and are) in error.
And the Eastern Orthodox formally after the 11th century....

ODE TO MISSING POSTS...
Tune..The Last Thing on my Mind..
It’s a lesson too late for the learning
Made of sand, made of sand
In the wink of an eye my POST WAS turnin’
In your hand, In your hand
Are you going away
With no word of farewell
Will there be not a trace left behind
Oh I could’ve PHRASED you better
Didn’t mean to be unkind
You know that was the last thing on my mind.
I notice that several posts have been made referencing a certain comic book publisher. However, I am curious, why are you leaving the thread since it is clear that the website that put out this nonsense is closely allied with a hate monger?
Hovind is often referenced in the crevo debates. That he edited a comic on creationism for a publisher disallowed on the forum - like his being imprisioned - is a valid argument concerning his credibility.
Anyone who believes the anti -Catholic threads you post follows the father of lies.
If you might think a little voice in your head is from God that is telling you to posts these threads, you're mistaken. It's self pride or it's from the father of lies -the prince of darkness-the ole boy the devil.
Here is the original Saint Michael prayer for you to recite...
Glorious Prince of the Celestial Host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the conflict which we have to sustain against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places (Eph 6:12). Come to the rescue of men whom God has redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil. It is thou whom Holy Church venerates as her guardian and her protector; thou whom the Lord has charged to conduct redeemed souls into Heaven. Pray therefore, the God of peace, to subdue Satan beneath our feet, that he may no longer retain men captive nor do injury to the Church. Present our prayers to the Most High, that without delay they may draw His mercy down upon us. Seize "the dragon, the ancient serpent, which is the devil and Satan," bind him and "cast him into the bottomless pit that he may no longer seduce the nations." (Rev 20:2-3)
Then why was post #64 removed as it demonstrated a clear link between the two?
It was removed because of the link to Chick.com - the others were fine. I sometimes link there to show posters why Chick is not allowed here at all, but no other links should appear here - either for or against.
So, the links from Hovind’s site were okay?
In other words, allowing Hovind's remarks to be linked does not open the door for posting webpages which criticize Chick publications and those who read them or take them to heart. If a thread needs to make the point why Chick is not allowed on Free Republic, ping me and I'll post it. It is not subject to debate.
Thanks for clarifying...it is just that I have been similarly offended in the past by Catholics making arrogant remarks about non-Catholics simply because they don’t buy into the Catholic religion and sometimes even hiding behind the “Catholic Caucus” to do so. I personally don’t belong to any organized religion, but rather have a personal relationship with the Lord. The Bible states that God inspired all Scripture and that is good enough for me, I don’t fret over the details of who translated what. In fact, the whole premise of arguing which mere mortal “gave” us the Bible is really silly if you ask me. It is the Word of God, period.
I had to go back and read, it’s been awhile. The Pentarchy, which came out of Nicaea, Ephesus, and Chalcedon, were the five main areas of preeminence in Christendom that I listed earlier.
Rome was indeed accorded first place because it was the imperial city, but only Rome took it that seriously. In reality there was a severe competition between Rome and Constantinople who always strove to be ahead of Rome after Constantinople became the head of the Empire, and especially after the remaining three fell to Islam.
***Constantinople became the head of the Empire, and especially after the remaining three fell to Islam.***
So that would make MOSCOW the Third Rome!
I agree that there will be no unity until the Orthodox church confronts reality, as in the calendar situation Easter. Sadly, Orthodoxy will continue to be dismissed as irrelevant by Catholics who are ignorant of its history and tradition.
That’s what they like to think themselves apparently. In fact a niece of the last Emporer was the mother of Ivan the first Czar.

(I do trust wikipedia on this one.)
