Mormon church gives first lady volume of family history

WASHINGTON -- For the second time in less than a year, Mormon church leaders have met with a President Barack Obama family member in the White House to present a volume of history.

First lady Michelle Obama was presented with a volume of her family history Wednesday morning by Elder Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Also participating was Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.

In July, Mormon church President Thomas S. Monson joined Elder Oaks and Reid in presenting the U.S. president with his family history.

"Last year, the church compiled several volumes for President Barack Obama," Reid said. "This year, I thank Elder Oaks for sharing our faith's tradition of genealogical research with the first lady and her family.

"This documentation of their lineage will be cherished and passed on for future generations," he said. "I am honored that the church can play a part in documenting the history of the first family."

While the conservatives of this country were battling ObamaCare, Michelle and Harry and mormon leader meet at the White House.

Words fail.........

LDS officials have made a tradition of presenting presidents with their genealogical breakdowns.

Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush got copies of their records from the church, which urges its members to research their ancestry as a way to ensure deceased relatives have an option to embrace the faith in the afterlife.

If it had been a Republican President it would have been Orrin Hatch among the group instead of Reid!

You do realize that those names and dates are submitted by individuals like yourself could be by a distant family member and not Family Search.

I use to work for ancestry.com

Why resty! Could you POSSIBLE be "imputing motives" to me?

LDS officials have made a tradition of presenting presidents with their genealogical breakdowns.

Yep..however, the mormon leaders with their buddy Harry Reid, made a visit to pander to Obama in the very midst of an uprising by millions of conservative Americans against the socialist Obama's takeover of the country. What a message for the Christian conservatives of the country.

Pretty poor timing in my opinion, but a photo-op for the mormon times is a photo-op! How tone deaf can they be?....oh never mind.

A White House press secretary for the first lady confirmed the meeting but characterized it as private and said no additional information nor photographs of the event would be provided.

That is why I said that someone must have typed the wrong date numbers. It has happened to me but I catch it before I add it to my FTM. I take everything I find with a grain of salt until I can find real sources such as census data.

The sad part is if you are not familar with the family you can only go by what is written and also I have seen mistakes coming from the state clerk office.

So record keepping is a pain all around.

It really is too bad there is such sloppy typing and record keeping when someone's eternity is in jeopardy. How can you do the proper ordinances for the dead with all the error in the records?

The bigger picture is the Lord is at work in this helping families get closer because of mistakes what one does not have the other has to help solve are to make aware that there are mysteries in the family tree to be resolved yet!

It really helped having a mother who lived until she was 102 when she died in 2007. She could remember things that happened when she was a kid, the people she knew including my dad's grandfather who lived until his 90’s. She was interviewed by my home town paper and said she could remember going to church with her dad to pray for survivors of the Titanic. She had never mentioned that to us or if she had, it just went in one ear and out the other one without making a stop. I had trouble with a lady who is supposed to be an authority on my dad's side of the family. She had his mom dying after I was born but my mom said she was not alive when I was born, that she had died the year before. I miss having her around to double check things I find on the internet. She has a younger sister living and a sister-in-law living but the rest are gone just like my dad's family. We are the older generation, now.

ROTFL!

grin

The mormon leaders choose probably the most unfortunate time possible to pander to Obama and Harry Reid and you post quotes like this; "Shows how much you know greyfoxx39 of the Bible there were also exchanges like this during the time of Saul the Lord never gives up until one goes beyond the mark of no return!"

Is that supposed to mean the Lord approves of the timing?

But what if those records are inaccurate as you suggest?

What if you do the Temple ordinances and seal someone to the wrong family. What if you baptize for the dead under the wrong name, and that person is stuck in Spirit Prison waiting for someone who can type decently enough to get it correct?

What then?

If one were going to make up names for Book of Mormon stories, one would not have chosen those Book of Mormon names. For example, Alma for a man’s name. Now when I went to San Diego to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, one of the “scrolls” was of interest to Mormons as it contained “Alma, Son of Judah” which was the first time the name of Alma was known to be used as a man’s name.

But I suppose you think the exhibiters of the Dead Sea Scrolls are a bunch of liars and charlatons, right?

Pretty poor timing in my opinion, but a photo-op for the mormon times is a photo-op!

Why did Lds leaders want to be in a photo-op with the Obamas just one business day before Obama herds millions of Mormons & non-Mormons into socialized healthcare? Don't they read their own papers they own?
