Jesus Would Not Support Modern Day Socialism
TRC Magazine ^ | 2/14/14 | Chuck ness

It has been the aim of the Democrat party since they lost the Presidential election in 2004 to subvert the Christian doctrine with the claim that Jesus was a Socialist. Their goal is to convince Christians that their Social agenda is morally equivalent with the teachings and life of Jesus Christ. They even went so far as to create handbooks to be distributing to pastors of churches that will show them how to use various Bible verses to promote what they call "Christian Socialism." Taking this into consideration, it shouldn't surprise anyone that many Christians across America were fooled into voting for Obama in 2008.

Add that to the vast amount of Americans who have a limited knowledge of history and hardly no Biblical knowledge, it is not surprising that many have fallen for the misinformation on what Jesus taught (and for whom the teachings were given). These Biblical revisionists have become especially adept at cherry picking Scripture to suit their agenda. Hence, many have come to misunderstand the gospel of Christ by equating it with modern day Socialism.

My first point of contention with the idea that Christ was a socialist, is His teachings and the example of His life. Throughout the time that Christ lived with His disciples, He never worked. Instead he was dependent upon the charity and good hearts of those who surrounded Him. Now that is not to say Jesus was lazy or a bum either. Jesus was always about His Fathers business, and that business was the salvation of mankind. You will find nowhere in the Scriptures, Jesus telling His followers to rely upon those who are not willing to hear the gospel or share what they have. If the people refused to hear

I’ve always said that if Jesus were to return to earth and run for the presidency as a Republican, there would be a load of FReepers would find fault with Him and demand support for whatever third party hack they professed would be better for the masses..........LOL!

How can you say that our will is not coerced when we have the threat of eternal, ETERNAL, torture thrust at us. Are you saying that that does not constitute physical coercion? I don’t want to put words in your mouth. Is that what you are contending?

Nope.

If I offer you a Snickers bar and you say, "No, this other guy is offering me a stick of rat poison, I'd rather eat that," I am not coercing you. You are making a choice to eat the rat poison and die. I am not the one who is inflicting that agonizing death on you. It's not my fault that you will suffer and we will be parted forever because of your death. You made the choice. It's your fault. I did not coerce you.

God does not threaten you with eternal punishment, either. You make the choice to separate yourself from Him by your own stubborn refusal to accept His love.

“I have noticed a pattern to the criticism of Any Rand.

1: Well, you know, she was an atheist and she had a weird personal life so her ideas are all crap.

2: Misrepresentation of her ideas.

I have yet to ever hear her ideas refuted logically. Ever. I disagree with her about the existence of God. I believe a logical argument can be made for the existence of God.
As for the rest of her philosophy I think she is right.

All the arguments I have heard for religion amount to “I believe because I believe”. The element of faith takes religion outside of reason. That was her point.

I would love to see her other ideas refuted honestly but I haven’t yet.”

Yes I did say that. At the time I was still trying to hold onto a belief in God. I had retreated to being a deist at that point. Ayn Rand said that deism was just a stop along the way to atheism. She was right. It was shortly after that I had to admit to myself that there were no rational arguments for God. The few remaining ones I was clinging to required me to abandon reason to accept them. That was the last straw for me. I only post this to explain why I started asking those questions 3 years ago. See, I really am willing to change my beliefs and I still am and I hope I always will be. Good premises.

Well but if God is supposed to be the creator of everything and nothing happens that is not his will then he sets the rules. He is not just some guy on the street. That is dis analogous.

Who told you that nothing happens that is not God’s will? Where’s the documentation for that?

I have been told that by many, many Christians and I’m sure I heard it in church but maybe I am wrong. The point is that God makes the rules, supposedly. I of course don’t believe in a God although I can’t prove that one doesn’t exist.

Well, the “many many” Christians who told you that were wrong. The concept of free will, which I explained previously to you, makes clear that God can be omnipotent and good and nonetheless bad things can happen that are not His will. He did not will the Holocaust or Muslim horrors or child abuse, but they take place nevertheless because He has given us freedom, and freedom means people have the possibility of choosing evil as well as God.

If you have been asking these questions for years and no one has given you an answer that satisfies you, the chances are that you are not really receptive to hearing the answers. There are a lot of atheists who really would prefer not to get their questions answered because that would force a real moral choice and change of life for them. That would be a real problem. If you continue to have questions I suggest you go on YouTube and search for Peter Kreeft. He is a philosopher and has better answers than I do. But my fear is that no answer in the world will placate someone who refuses to accept anything and continues to go back over and over and OVER to the idea that a cruel God sends people to hell because they won’t obey arbitrary rules.

This OTTB mare is done for the evening.

In reading through this thread, when I came to your posts it came to mind, “this guy is probably an atheist.” It took Ansell to wring it out of you, good for him.

No wonder your hero is Ayn Rand the atheist.

I think it sneaky of you, as an atheist, coming on this thread about whether Jesus would support socialism. This is a Conservative Christian site opposed to socialism, you know. Jim Robinson, the owner of this site is neither an atheist or a socialist.

You or any one else could have asked at any time and I would have answered honestly. I have nothing to hide. The Thread was about Whether Jesus as the Bible portrays him would support Socialism and all I did was point out that one of the most fundamental principle of Christianity, the morality of self sacrifice for the good of others is also the principle that allows Socialism to be possible. Not one person on here even tried to deny that. It would be impossible to establish a socialist government on the principle that man has a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. In order for Socialism or any other form of tyranny to work man must be stripped of his self esteem and that certainly is what the morality of self sacrifice does and that most certainly is what the doctrine of original sin is designed to do. It turns man into a sacrificial animal who exists to serve the purposes of others. It makes no difference whether he is to serve his neighbor, the state or a God. It is the same principle and that has absolutely nothing to do with atheism.

I am certainly aware that this site is a Christian site and I am aware That it is pro Capitalism. I am the arch enemy of Socialism. I am for complete unregulated Laissez Faire Capitalism. No one who reads my posting history will find a shred of evidence that I support Socialism.

Do you really want to shut down people who disagree with you? Is that the attitude of someone who is open to evidence and reason or is that the attitude of someone who is afraid to have his ideas challenged. Ideas should not be given dignity, only people should. There should be no idea that is immune from scrutiny. We should challenge every idea that we hold every day and never stop challenging them.

Every dictatorship in history has relied on this moral premise to justify its actions. People seem to be saying that it’s OK for God to do it because he knows best. Well that is exactly what every tyrant says, that he knows best.

God created everything and is the Boss. What the Boss says goes. Capiche?

Right, just as I described, it is your trolling method for over 3 years, you aren’t looking for answers, you are looking to argue without getting banned.

Passive agressive?

Keep in mind that atheism is to the Religion Forum what liberalism is to Free Republic altogether.

The funny thing is that atheists vote socialist, and Christians vote conservative.

That is why the handful of the rino atheists that belong to FR because they share our economics, yet war against Christianity, are revealing how out of touch with reality they are.

Social liberalism and conservative economics cannot co-exist.

The vast majority of social liberals will always be voting for more government and less economic freedom.

That’s interesting. I never once spoke of atheism until someone went looking through my posting history because they didn’t want to answer legitimate questions posed to them that pertained to the topic of the thread. I never said anything about Jesus or god not existing because it was irrelevant to the topic.

We do not seek or need advice or opinions regarding Christian principles from atheists. They should keep it to themselves or post elsewhere. Thanks!

I have absolutely no desire to shutdown people who don’t agree with God, family, country, but don’t want them filling our pages with their repugnant bile either. Atheists will have no problem from me posting their atheist regurgitation elsewhere on the net. I won’t try to stop them.

So fine, no one is arguing with that. Leave Jesus for worship and use the founding fathers for understanding the constitution.

That would be fine, if folks relying upon the founders remember to take in the context of English Common Law, without which the founders cannot be properly interpreted. If you are so informed, then you should know that there is no argument here.
