Gay Marriage Acceptance by Finnish Lutheran Archbishop Prompts Mass Resignations From Church..

As many as 7,800 people have resigned from the Lutheran Church in Finland since the parliament approved a law legalizing same-sex marriages on Friday, which was backed by Kari Mäkinen, the Archbishop of Turku and Finland.

Mäkinen reportedly said that he was "rejoiced" by the passage of the law, YLE News reported on Sunday.

"I know how much this day means for rainbow people, their loved ones and many others. I rejoice with my whole heart for them and with them," the Archbishop said. "We are in the same situation as our neighboring Nordic churches: our concept of marriage needs a fundamental examination. Speaking for myself, I think it is time for reconsideration."

His comments have sparked mass resignations in the church over the weekend, however. The resignations were tracked via an online service meant to ease the resignation process.

Over 78 percent of Finland's population is officially registered to the Lutheran Church. The implications of the resignations are that the people who left will no longer pay church taxes, which is the main source of revenue for the church.

I salute those God fearing Finns. What backbone to do this enmass. I have my own little person- of -one -protest with the Catholic church in my state because in Arizona the church leaders say that if the pope comes here, it shows his solidarity with their efforts to get illegals normalized. Imagine hearing that from the pulpit.

I reject that completely. So, I have been dismissing myself from Mass. Believe me, I have dialogues with God all the time. This is a very uneasy time for me.

I had to do the same over the Gay issue in my Church. I pray God Blesses you for your stance and faithfulness. I also stopped giving my money to any church or organization that supports these issues. I would not be a good steward of God’s money if I did not.

Sounds like the homosexual loving archbishop will be lonely in those empty churches.

The churches in the Pima diocese are very pro-illegal immigration. Have have attended mass in over 32 of them. There is outright activism in the church against the for illegals. There are memorials to them on church grounds. There are brochures to go and protest the Tucson’s treatment of them at city hall. I’ve attended the Mass where the Catholic school children attend, and talked to their teachers, who teach social justice for the illegals. In the diocese newspaper, those that leave water barrels in the desert for them are considered great humanitarians. Our bishop staged a communion over the fence between Mexico, to symbolize how their salvation was waiting for them here.

During the summer invasion from Central America, I just could not take it anymore. Then last week, a senior member of the Catholic church in Arizona was quoted saying ( which I heard on talk radio) that they rejoiced because the church felt that the pope was on their side with amnesty.

If you say I am committing a mortal sin; then somehow I will have to storm the gates of heaven some other way. For a few Christmases and Easters I have been asked to speak at Mass about my faith and to bring others back to it. I am totally committed to God. It’s the Tucson diocese ( and it is huge) that is spoiled for me.

I am very happy for you that your church does not go against God’s commandments to not steal and to not covet thy neighbor’s goods. I cannot ask you to pray for me, only that I pray you and content and secure in your parish.

Perhaps maybe the Mohammedans will make up the difference?

Yes good for them. Jesus is still Lord of all to some people, anyway. His authority and opinion is all that matters.

It helps me to remember that Jesus knows that priests ( bishops, cardinals and even popes) are humans and sinners too but yet allows His divine body to be humbled in the appearance of bread so that souls may join Him with The Father in Heaven.

I cannot imagine my life without the Eucharist and would ( and will ) suffer through misguided homilies of wayward clergy to receive it.

“So, it appears that there are 7800 Christians in Finland.”

And some will join the Catholic Church soon enough. I suppose some will join the Finnish Orthodox Church.

Praying for you, lulu16. Understand your frustration.

The Lutheran Church of Finland (and that nation’s government) have rejected Biblical Christianity should be the headline-they DO NOT believe in the Redemption through Christ.

If it’s anything like the mainline liberal protestant churches over here, they probably already rejected Biblical Christianity years ago by rejecting the inerrancy of Scripture, the virgin birth, the physical resurrection of Christ and by accepting abortions and female clergy. The acceptance of homosexuality doesn’t happen at the beginning of falling into liberal decadence and depravity, it happens at the end.

Myself, I would continue to go to Mass but not put any money in the basket. Your not alone on this find others in your parish like you and counter-protest somehow.

“The acceptance of homosexuality doesn’t happen at the beginning of falling into liberal decadence and depravity, it happens at the end.”

You are so correct!

Romans 1:..
22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.
