The left’s goal is precisely that: ending the influence of Christian principles on the country. The laws, customs and morality of the country are based on Christian and Jewish principles.

Except a Gentile is grafted in with Israel he does not belong to the Messiah. Who taught you antisemitism (no, it was not the Messiah) ?

I would suspect babylon of old, if it could, would have housed the worldwide headquarters of Hollywood, porn and the music industries like this ‘judeo christian’ rooted nation does today.

That certainly would add a twist to a mystery to what the heck is mystery babylon.. I know this- I wouldn’t want to be in Rome, DC or Jerusalem when babylon falls because I see parts of babylon in each one.

Indeed. In fact, there is no such thing as a "Christian nation" - nor a "Judeo-Christian nation" - to be found in the Bible. Rather, it is only disciples of Christ who are called "Christians" (Acts 11:26).

And what is a "disciple"? A learner, a pupil, a follower, an imitator of his Master.

Not many of those in this nation, huh? But we're not surprised, because Jesus told us that's how it would be.

In fact, there are plenty of FReepers who reject, oppose, and deny the disciple-making method from the mouth of Christ, and yet claim to be Christians.

I don't think anyone has argued that there's no hope for the Jews. The Lord's offer of salvation is the same for them as for the Gentiles. As Paul says:

"I say then, Did God cast off his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God did not cast off his people which he foreknew."

The Lord Himself chose to come to earth as a Jew, and tells the Samaritan woman in John 4 that "salvation is of the Jews."

But "He came unto His own, and His own received Him not." How it grieved Him, how He wept, to be rejected of those whom He loved and would die for.

He gave all for them, and yet only a remnant would be saved. As Paul again says, "Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace."

The Messiah waits with open arms to welcome all who will come to Him, whether Jew or Gentile. But we all must come on HIS terms, understanding the nature of His kingdom, acknowledging Him as the promised Messiah, rather than bringing OUR demands that He restore fleshly Israel and sit upon a physical throne in earthly Jerusalem.

You had me at "I'm confused". At least, that's what I'm personally working through trying to get my head around this and the events of the day.

Perhaps I'm not reading enough into it (or too much), but this is is how I understand "debt" in the context of a Shimetah year:

Give Your Friend a Break

At the end of seven years you will make a release. And this is the manner of the release: to release the hand of every creditor from what he lent his friend; he shall not exact from his friend or his brother, because the time of the release for the L‑rd has arrived. (Deuteronomy 15:1–2)

The Shemittah year waives all outstanding debts between Jewish debtors and creditors.

This aspect of Shemittah observance is known as shemittat kesafim, “release of money [debts].”

Within this context, Greece's debt is for her friends to forgive, so to speak.

(As a random side thought: Was Greece a place where Christ was treated well when other places weren't so hospitable? I can't remember. If so, He might have a soft spot in His Heart for their transgressions if Greece's friends were forgiving.

Regardless, as a not so random thought that might apply to Shemitah, I do remember reading something somewhere about being forgiven as we forgive, so there's always that.

Honestly? Whether because of superstition or Fear Of God, I believe that right up to, and including, a Hail Mary play, we can use all the help we can get.)

Interesting. I’m all for undeserved grace! Just wasn’t sure that Jewish structures could be applied to Greece in that way. Seems like the way we’re going a wipeout will eventually impose a debt clearing/starting over for everyone. Assuming God wants things to go on longer...
