JOHN MacARTHUR NEEDS TO TALK WITH ROSALIND MOSS.
Before she became a Catholic, staff apologist Rosalind Moss used to be a member of John MacArthur's congregation, Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. He runs a ministry called Grace to You. Its motto is "Unleashing God's Truth One Verse at a Time." The unleashing is done chiefly through a widely-syndicated radio program.
In a June letter to his ministry's supporters, MacArthur wrote about John Paul II and the "amazing release of emotion" that accompanied his death. "From politicians and media pundits to Hollywood celebrities and everyday citizens, everyone had praise for John Paul II, his gentle ways and his social and political achievements as a world leader and statesman. I can understand that.
"What I cannot understand," continued MacArthur, "is the response of some Evangelicals to what matters most about the pope: his beliefs about God and the gospel. … Influential leaders embraced the deceased pope as a brother in Christ and the Catholic church as just another Christian denomination. …
"During the Reformation, countless men and women died rather than deny the biblical truths of salvation. Countless others today are giving their lives as missionaries to people lost in the darkness and guilt of Catholicism."
MacArthur goes on to write about the "damning error" that is Catholicism and notes that he has released a new 90-minute lecture called "Unmasking the Pope and the Catholic System." He says that "the church I pastor is loaded with people who were saved out of the Catholic church. … A longtime Grace to You board member and dear friend of mine is a former Catholic. He speaks with great emotion about the bondage he and his wife lived under."
How many times have we heard these claims before? "The Catholic Church is not really Christian." "Catholics believe you 'earn' your salvation through good works." "Catholicism is based on guilt, not truth." "People are in 'bondage' to Catholicism–and we need to save them."
Each Sunday 7,000 people attend MacArthur's church. This is what he tells them about an institution that was around for nineteen centuries before he was born and that is now headed by a man who shows not a hint of MacArthur's arrogance. It is MacArthur who claims a divine commission: "I do have a mandate from God to compare what others teach to the gospel of the Bible." He says, "'Does the pope teach the gospel?' is a valid question."
Rosalind Moss left John MacArthur's church because she realized that, yes, the pope really does teach the gospel–and that John MacArthur does not.
The Grace to You ministry's letterhead has this slogan at the bottom: "The Bible Teaching of John MacArthur." Benedict XVI is more modest in his claims. His letterhead does not have at the bottom "The Bible Teaching of Benedict XVI" because the Pope is not trying to push his own agenda.
Instead, he is the custodian of what has been passed down through the centuries. His job is not to refashion the Bible in his own image but to convey to us what each of his predecessors conveyed to the people of their time.
Grace to You is built around one man. It may have many employees, but when John MacArthur dies, his ministry will die. His flock will scatter, taking with them the silly prejudices he has imbued them with.
When Benedict XVI dies there will be another pope to succeed him, and another, and another, until the end of time. Each of them will demonstrate to those with open minds and hearts that, yes, the pope does teach the gospel.

And this is why I share the Gospel of Grace on FR. People need to know the Word of God and turn from self-righteousness and dead works to HIM alone. Eternity awaits. It is why we must continue to pray God will open eyes and hearts.
His honestly can be refreshing, and which actually testifies to how one can admit evidence that is against being an RC, yet still hold to it. Some of the things he says are those which RCs would react with reproof if said by one of us, for the picture they paint is a different one.
Referring to the schism of the 14th and 15th centuries, Cardinal Ratzinger observed,
"For nearly half a century, the Church was split into two or three obediences that excommunicated one another, so that every Catholic lived under excommunication by one pope or another, and, in the last analysis, no one could say with certainty which of the contenders had right on his side. The Church no longer offered certainty of salvation; she had become questionable in her whole objective form--the true Church, the true pledge of salvation, had to be sought outside the institution.

When asked in an interview in 2000 whether the Church would go along with the desire to solemnly define Mary as Co-redemptrix, then-Cardinal Ratzinger responded that “the response of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, is, broadly, that what is signified by this is already better expressed in other titles of Mary, while the formula “Co-redemptrix” departs to too great an extent from the language of Scripture and of the Fathers and therefore gives rise to misunderstandings” (53).
He went on to say that, “Everything comes from Him [Christ], as their Latter to the Ephesians and the Letter to the Colossians, in particular, tell us; Mary, too, is everything she is through Him. The word “Co-redemptrix” would obscure this origin. If I understand your comments correctly, they indicate you, as someone who puts all his faith and trust into the Holy Scriptures and Gospels profess that Luther (with his blueprint) and the Nazis (with their implementation) were simply instruments of God to destroy the Jews in the Holocaust for not being Christians.
Where? All recommendations, all things that had been already used against the Jews in diverse places by the Catholic church. No "I did this" at all, like most words, 'active' must mean something else to a Catholic, trying to shuck for his church.
Where is it then in the Book of Concord? Where in the foundational documents of what became 'Lutheranism'? Doesn't exist. There are numerous examples of Catholic deeds, not words, ran from the Vatican, from the highest reaches of your church. No examples of you decrying them, no blame on old mother church. One more step down the road of no credibility for you. How about saving us some time and just answering the questions in #150 as soon as the fever passes.

Sadly, too often (just) some of the history from the other side is fitting in the light of one-sided self-righteous indignation by a few whose irrational rage against a man they (incredulously) suppose is like a pope to us (perhaps because they cannot conceive of convictions that rest upon Scriptural substantiation, vs. men), while evangelicals are the strongest supporters of Israel, contrary to the fruit of Catholicism. The light of historical Cath anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism testifies that Luther said what Catholics had said, both of which provided Hitler with historical pretext for his wicked actions. Sadly, such history also testifies to a degree of iniquity and recalcitrant hardness manifest in much of Jewish culture against the Christianity they saw, which rendered them hard to love and fostered invectives (but which does not excuse all such), and inexcusable actions against them. The Lord sent the apostles to the Jews first, and Paul was willing to go to Hell if that could mean there salvation. Rome has also resisted, and been slow and weak in its support of the state of Israel, and American bishops especially seem to favor Muslims over their enemies. Where is it then in the Book of Concord? Where in the foundational documents of what became ‘Lutheranism’? Doesn’t exist. There are numerous examples of Catholic deeds, not words, ran from the Vatican, from the highest reaches of your church. No examples of you decrying them, no blame on old mother church. One more step down the road of no credibility for you. How about saving us some time and just answering the questions in #150 as soon as the fever passes.
