I wish that we had Archbishop Sheen with us today.

The fact he’s gone public in this act of defiance and hasn’t been relieved says a lot about this Francis’s agenda...

Did you not read the article? He was relieved of his position and he'll most likely be defrocked.

Did you even read the title of the thread? It mentions that he was fired...

I stand corrected then, on that. My point was simply that the abuse belongs to history that is distant by now, contrary to the Protestant superstition about the Holy Church not being capable of internal reform.

If the RCC was capable of reform, why hasn’t it purged all gays from its ranks by now? Why instead do we have an open, active sodomite working inside the Vatican, and in doctrine no less?

“Essentially all of my parish priests were gay.”

It’s just so strange to hear that. None of the priests at the parishes I attended in my youth were as far as anyone could tell - especially the married one! If he was gay, his wife would have known!

Because the gay in question was closeted?

Why don’t you worry about your own religion?

Abuse instances peaked in 1978-81 or so according to the John Jay report. The instances of abuse rose steeply through the sexual revolution in the early 60s and fell just as fast after the late 70s peak.

The terrible level of abuse solved itself, no thanks to any discipline bishops or the Pope did as far as I can tell. It seems like it was simply a matter of post-sexual revolution gay men not becoming priests, and older abusing priests getting old and dying and not being replaced. Why become priests when the greater culture accepts it and you don’t have to hide anything? I bet there are way fewer gay priests now, at least in the civilized West, than in 1950. And I bet gay priests were much likelier to abuse after the sexual revolution.

All your posting does is point out that whether Catholic or Protestant, the leadership in both groups has a serious problem with dealing with sexual sin. The Protestants however are often very quick to expose it, not try to cover it up and then have their erring members prosecuted! The more independent the group, the faster it gets exposed because those groups aren’t linked together the same way the Episcopalians or Lutherans are(who can shift erring ministers around)!

I say again, like a life of celibacy would make a HEALTHY heterosexual male want to have sex with young boys. . .no healthy heterosexual male would turn queer because of celibacy. . .if that wasn’t the case, then a lot of high school boys would be prancing and dancing queers. . .
