Bleeding Host in Poland 'Has Hallmarks of a Eucharistic Miracle'

A bleeding Host in Poland that “has the hallmarks of a Eucharistic miracle” has been approved for veneration.

The announcement was made by Bishop Zbigniew Kiernikowski of Legnica on Sunday, according to reports.

On Christmas Day in 2013, a consecrated Host fell to the floor, the bishop said in a statement. It was put in a container of water and red stains subsequently appeared on the Host.

After the discovery, the former Bishop of Legnica set up a commission to observe the phenomenon, the statement said.

“In February 2014, a tiny red fragment of the Host was seperated and put on a corporal. The Commission ordered to take samples in order to conduct the thorough tests by the relevant research institutes,” the statement added.

The final medical statement by the Department of Forensic Medicine found that “in the histopathological image, the fragments (of the Host) were found containing the fragmented parts of the cross striated muscle. It is most similar to the heart muscle. Tests also determined the tissue to be of human origin, and found that it bore signs of distress.”

If it fell to the floor it should have been consumed immediately.

Amen.

Though I understand that dissolving the host in water may be carried out if, for instance, a host has been seriously soiled.

It’s not so remote a possibility as you might think.

Visible Eucharistic miracles are not common occurrences - but they do happen. They’re of a piece with the titanic miracle of the Eucharist itself.

We have the unutterable privilege of receiving the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Savior. Sometimes Christ chooses to make this existing miracle visible.

I hope they dealt properly with the piece they analyzed.

Bishop Kiernikowski said the Host bore signs of “a Eucharistic miracle” and explained that in January of this year he took the matter to the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

In April, according to a recommendation made by the Holy See, he asked parish priest Andrzej Ziombrze “to prepare a suitable place” for the Host so that the faithful could venerate it.

“I hope that this will serve to deepen the cult of the Eucharist and will have deep impact on the lives of people facing the Host,” the bishop added

These phenomena are cute and all that; but, seriously — why not a miracle of healing someone who is really sick, or lame, or blind? Why always these weeping, bleeding, madonna shaped tortilla markings?
A perverse generation seeks for a sign.

If it is bleeding, you can test the blood.

If it is not of middle-eastern markers, it isn’t Christ’s blood.

Cute? Take up your complaint with Jesus or the Father.

Not much cute about fresh heart muscle in distress.

If it is not of middle-eastern markers, it isn’t Christ’s blood.

There are people on FR WHO CLAIM TO KNOW CHRIST'S BLOOD TYPE.

What insanity. How about a good ol' fashioned healing the sick and raising the dead? Jesus and his Apostles did plenty of those miracles.

Doesn’t this happen all the time? should be common given it’s transubstantiation.

From reading about other instances of visible Eucharistic miracles: it seems plausible that God enacts them in order to heal blindness.

Not regular blindness, but rather that specific kind of blindness that does not recognize the Real Presence.

For instance: the miracles sometimes involve people who’ve stolen the Host for some bad purpose (as if there could be a good one) or priests who have come close to losing their awareness of the sacrament.

I think that God only makes His body and blood visible in this startling way when He wishes to make His presence extremely clear to someone. For instance, I guess He might do it when someone is in danger of committing a grave sacrilege.

But most of the time we have the God-given grace to live in holy fear and respect of the Eucharist. When we know what the sacrament is, perhaps there's no need for a visible miracle to go with the unseen one.

After all: blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.

If it is what some claim it is, it should plainly be so.
Claiming something absolutely is what it plainly isn’t, even if there are Nth-hand reports of it being so in 0.0000000001% of instances, is absurd.

“Invisible miracles” is a new one on me.
Absolutely miraculous that this banana has turned into a wolverine, even though it still looks & tastes like a banana and doesn’t move or do anything wolverine-ish.

If your reasoning all too often concludes the absurd, without any objective validation, you might want to revisit your premises & axioms.

It's possible that you are one of the intended beneficiaries of this miracle in Poland.

St Thomas only believed in the Resurrection when he touched the Body of Christ: maybe this Eucharistic miracle will turn out to be your own touching of His sacred body.

May you be so blessed. Truly.

For most, but not all, the path to belief comes from Christ's words. There can be no doubt that He offers us His Body and Blood.

For instance:

I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

Christ the Son of God instituted the sacrament of the Eucharist - the Bread and Wine becoming His Body and Blood - at the Last Supper.

And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood."

If any corroborating evidence were needed, St Paul speaks about the Eucharist in Corinthians.

And when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord.

Many of us have read these words, and been given the marvelous grace to behold the Body of Christ through faith.

'Blessed are they that have not seen, but yet believe' isn't a throw-away line, but a roadmap of why God approaches us through faith, rather than just overwhelming our senses by His presence.

You said it yourself: He could appear visible to the naked eye at every Mass.

But He chooses not to. This matter is difficult for speech, but I believe He is growing our faith. Asking God to show that He is God is a temptation. It is a wicked generation that asks for a sign, and so on.

God leaves our free will free - to grow towards him in faith. He doesn't break the bruised reed. He uses the lightest of touches to move our hearts toward Him.

But nevertheless: God is God. He is free not to hide His majesty.

And today He is showing you His sacred body truly present in the Eucharist. On the other side of the world and through the lens of churchmanship that you have no taste for - but He is there.

May God bless us, and lead us into all truth.

“There are people on FR WHO CLAIM TO KNOW CHRIST’S BLOOD TYPE. What insanity.”

No blood type necessary. Just identify if it is has markers from the Middle East. If not, it is a typical fake.
