Ron Paul raises millions in today's Boston Tea Party event ($3.2 million @ 3:00 EST)
Boston Globe ^ | 12/16/07 | Michael Levenson

Posted on 12/16/2007 11:57:44 AM PST by traviskicks

On Nov. 5, supporters of Ron Paul raked in more than $4.2 million in donations in 24 hours, mostly of them collected over the Internet.

Today, they're at it again. Hoping to detonate what they call a "money bomb," the supporters started fundraising at midnight Saturday and have already raised $2 million as of about 10:30 a.m. today, more than at this point on Nov. 5, according to figures they posted online. They hope to collect a total of $10 million by midnight Sunday.

Last time, they tied their fundraising to Guy Fawkes Day, which commemorates a British mercenary who tried unsuccesfully to kill King James I on Nov. 5, 1605. This time, they're seizing on the 234th aniversary of the Boston Tea Party and converging on this snowy city to rally.

They plan on gathering on the State House steps at 1 p.m. and parading down to Faneuil Hall, where they will listen to speeches in tune with Paul's libertarian platform. Speakers will include the Republican presidential candidate's son, Dr. Rand Paul, an eye surgeon, and Carla Howell, the libertarian who ran unsuccesfully for governor in 2002.

There are also plans to dump some tea (or at least some boxes labeled tea) into the Harbor, though the details were still sketchy as of this morning.

THe keywords added to this thread are repulsive.

Paul is a lot of things. Neo-nazi is not one of them.

are showing McPain-Feingold up for the travesty that it really is.

Then you will appreciate this story:

Ron Paul Supporters Hack Campaign Finance Law to Send Blimp Aloft

There was another story somewhere that said RP blimp donors were planning to 'drown the FEC in paper', and all fill out lengthy forms that needed processing just to piss them off, or something to that effect.

I’m not a Paul fan either....but after learning that we have troops in 33 countries, 30 of which hate us, I wish him all the best. Not to mention the rest of the world that we continue to lavish funds upon...with little thanksgiving or appreciation received. Isolationism does have it’s perks. We’d have a lot of money to spend on border patrol/fences, alternative energy development, social security, etc.

"I’m a Conservative supporting Fred, and your statement is loonier than the looniest of the Paul supporters."

I am a Fred supporter as well and I also find that a lot of Paul's detractors are more irrational than many of his supporters. I have some reservations about his view on the threat of Islamic radicalism, but find the "Paul Derangement Syndrome" of some of his detractors to be pathological.

"I think the fundemental definition of how conservative a candidate is is how much they would reduce the size, scope, and role of the government."

That used to be the main criteria for being an "American" conservative. The unfortunate problem is that conservatism is being redefined to make it more compatible with big government. I do not believe that Dr. Paul can get elected, but I would like to see his campaign inspire a movement to once again anchor conservatism in the principle of limited government.

“Dude pass that one over here and lets call in a pledge for another $200.00.”

Unfortunately this is not a PBS fundraiser. Those aren’t pledges, it is real fiat dollars.

Cut the bulls--t, WCC. Let's appreciate what Dr. Paul is doing here rather than focusing on half-truths and smears that have been debunked thread after thread after thread.

WE NEED DR. PAUL TO RUN IN THESE PRIMARIES. I don't know how many times I have to make myself clear on this. The Republican Party base has dwindled so badly that if you don't have the type of message that Paul has, the party will lose the election.

Paul is bringing together the libertarians, the independents, the right-leaning populists, as well as retaining the social conservative base of the GOP. Whether or not he wins the nomination is a moot point, but whoever IS nominated, they're going to need Paul's endorsement and pray that his supporters will vote for the GOP nominee.

The GOP has a dilemma here. Paul's supporters are so fervent for their candidate that they're going to vote for him REGARDLESS who is nominated on the GOP. We need to reach out to Paul and these supporters, it's high time the GOP libertarianize and start talking about limiting the size of government and finish the job in Iraq, or else.

My main priority is cobbling together the coalitions needed to defeat Hillary. Right now, all of the factions are at each other's throats. Like it or not, the vast majority of people are against the war and want the troops to come home. You can scream, pout, and call Dr. Paul names and laugh at the photo-shopped pics, but them's the facts.

It looks like you people are falling far short of the $10 million that you were supposed to raise.

ETC, the $10 million goal was a projection from the grassroots, not the official campaign. It looks like Dr. Paul will wind up with $6-$7 million. THat's still a record and will give Paul close to $20 million for the 4Q. Remember, the CAMPAIGN'S goal was $12 million for the 4Q. They've achieved it.

Well, let’s deal with reality then: Paul will not win the nomination. Even you must know this. His fund raising acumen is not materializing into actual support - mostly because those giving him money are not Republicans.

So, how should the eventual GOP nominee reach out to Dr. Paul’s supporters? I don’t understand how this is possible since every single other candidate strongly supports the War in Iraq and the war against Islamic terrorism.

Even if the eventual nominee adopts every single other stance Paul has, it won’t be good enough for his supporters as his opposition to the War on Terror is what they care about the most.

I suspect these "money dumps" are being funded by Soros

I suspect you're completely wrong. I honestly can't believe FReepers are engaging in this crap. We've prided ourselves for years on getting the facts and sniffing out BS in the liberal media. But I guess the same rules don't apply to Dr. Paul.

Not if, as I suspect, that over half of that money is from hildebeeste supporters. A 3rd-party run from a guy on her right is the beeste's only chance. She knows this, and it would be well worth it for her to seed Paul's coffers and stoke his ego to make that run. This is the most serious issue of the year, IMHO, and I can guaran-damn-tee ya that she and her minions are behind a large part of Ron Paul's fundraising miracles. And it torques my tamales that he is USING the Republican primary apparatus to accomplish HER ends. I mean damn and double-damn. She is going to make him an offer he can't refuse, and there will be two sides to that offer. I cannot BELIEVE that he gets to use the Republican party to foster that outcome.

Well, let’s deal with reality then: Paul will not win the nomination.

I honestly don't give a feces if he doesn't. The fact that he's bringing in new blood into the GOP and returning it back to its roots is his legacy, and it's long overdue. Fiscal conservatives & libertarians have been getting crapped on for far too long. He's already achieved it, and years from now future Republicans will speak fondly of him at GOP conventions. Who's going to call themselves a Giuliani Republican? A Huckabee Republican years from now?

Even you must know this. His fund raising acumen is not materializing into actual support - mostly because those giving him money are not Republicans.

And that's a bad thing, how? Paul's message of freedom should only include those who are registered Republicans & toe the party line? I thought introducing liberals to conservative beliefs was a positive thing? Liberals used to listen to Rush and now they're conservatives. There have been liberals and FR changed them as well. Paul's not allowed to do the same thing too?

So, how should the eventual GOP nominee reach out to Dr. Paul’s supporters? I don’t understand how this is possible since every single other candidate strongly supports the War in Iraq and the war against Islamic terrorism.

The GOP nominee needs to understand that most Americans want the troops to come home. They don't need to compromise with Paul on an immediate pull-out, but staying in the Middle East for decades with permanent bases should be taken off the table. And the GOP needs to start talking about REAL limited gov't - no, not the "tax credits," "middle-class deductions," or "targeted spending cuts" BS, START ABOLISHING SOME FRICKING AGENCIES AND DEPARTMENTS.

Even if the eventual nominee adopts every single other stance Paul has, it won’t be good enough for his supporters as his opposition to the War on Terror is what they care about the most.

You think that the bulk of Paul's support are anti-war leftists, but it just isn't true. Paul's supporters for the most part are conservatives disgusted with the GOP and Bush in general. If Paul endorses someone like Fred, Fred will get a good percentage of his supporters AS LONG AS the GOP lets Paul speak at the convention and not support his opponent in the Congressional race.

“My guess is that at least half of them are cut and run Democrats.”

How right you are! I saw a bunch of them campaigning downtown near my work and none of them new anything about his domestic libertarian agenda, which obviously contains some good ideas. I specifically asked them about cutting taxes and slashing government. They just kept talking about “neocons” who were destroying the world. I don’t even think they knew what a neocon is.

These Paul-peddlers were just a bunch of anti-war kooks, who kept screaming, “Bring the troops home now.” That’s whose bankrolling his campaign.

ETC, the $10 million goal was a projection from the grassroots, not the official campaign.

Forget it, they don't understand. Perhaps not even capable of understanding. Too many of the citizens of the respective states have handed their lives, liberties, and fortunes over to the 530+ jackasses sitting in Washington DC. They simply cannot comprehend that a grassroots organization separate of the politician can exist. It's nothing against them per se, but rather decades of indoctrination that 'our' leaders care about us and will 'guide' us.

Dr. Paul has said it best. We are the Revolution and he's just glad he got invited along.

I've noticed that on every single one of these threads, you post "Dr. Paul" and then proceed to laugh at that. Is there something funny to you about being a medical doctor? Do you think it's shameful or mockworthy if a person is a former obstetrician who has delivered 4000 babies?

(I'm just trying to understand your thinking. It appears that you're just acting like a 10 year old, but in case there is some valid reason, I thought I'd ask you)
