  • Why The Ryan/Biden Debate Will Be Inherently More Entertaining

America is still letting out an exhausted sigh from the debate two nights ago in Denver. At this point, who knows who won, and who actually cares? The best/worst part of it all, as my colleague James King pointed out, is that Donald Trump was mentioned two times in 90 minutes; that's two times more than the number of times Trump should ever be mentioned in a presidential debate. Nevertheless, the next two meetings between Romney and Obama will likely produce more "mehs" from the begrudging national audience. Don't worry, Election Day will be over soon enough. At least we...

Texas Teen Tells 911 It Was 'Weird' to Kill His Mother and Sister By CHRISTINA NG Oct. 6, 2012 In a chilling 911 call, Texas teen Jake Evans spent 20 minutes calmly recounting how he shot and killed his mother and sister, calling himself "evil." "It's weird," an even-voiced Evans told the 911 dispatcher. "I wasn't even really angry with them. It just kind of happened. I've been kind of planning on killing for a while now." Evans, 17, of Parker County, Texas, was arrested after he called police early Thursday morning to report he had killed his mother Jami...

That whooshing sound you heard, after the first presidential debate on Wednesday night, was the collective exhalation of the breath of every Patriot Tea Party member in the nation. We’d all hoped that Mitt Romney would at least hold his own with the ‘Anointed One’, whose brilliance, we had been assured by the Lame Stream Press, eclipsed that of all mortal men. To my absolute delight, after the first few minutes, it became readily apparent that Mitt Romney not only had the effrontery to challenge the media messiah… he neatly filleted him… in a gentlemanly sort of way. It’s what...

Pope Benedict XVI's butler Paolo Gabriele was convicted this morning of stealing the pope's private papers and leaking them to journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi, who published them in a best-selling book. It took the three judges presiding over the case in Vatican City about two hours of deliberations to reach the guilty verdict today, the fourth day of hearings. Gabriele was sentenced to 18 months in an Italian prison, which was less than the expected sentence of four years. Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi told reporters after the reading that the tribunal had fully accepted the "extenuating circumstances" and had reduced...
  • Study: Free birth control leads to fewer abortions

Free birth control led to dramatically lower rates of abortions and teen births, a large study concludes. The findings were eagerly anticipated and come as a bitterly contested Obama administration policy is poised to offer similar coverage. The project tracked more than 9,000 women in St. Louis, many of them poor or uninsured. They were given their choice of a range of contraceptive methods at no cost — from birth control pills to goof-proof options like the IUD or a matchstick-sized implant.
  • Descendants of condemned 'witches' ask Connecticut to clear their relatives' names

HARTFORD, Conn. – Descendants of some of the 11 people executed for witchcraft in mid-1600s Connecticut are hoping for a little magic of their own: that Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will issue a proclamation clearing their distant relatives' names and condemning the prosecutions and killings. Over the past seven years, descendants and their supporters have been trying to get state officials to denounce the Connecticut witch trials, which began in 1647, three decades before the more famous trials in Salem, Mass., and ended in 1697. About 46 people were prosecuted, according to a 2006 state report. "They were wrongly accused....

I'm looking for some new wine to try but don't want to break the bank. I'm tired of the same old, same old that I always buy. I know there are a lot of regional wineries which produce limited amounts of affordable wine, but it would be most helpful to have suggestions of wine that can be obtained nationally. Thanks and cheers!
  • Paul Ryan Has News For The Birthers: He’s Not One Of Them

Paul Ryan has figured out a way of letting the birthers down gently. Like many of his fellow congressmen, Ryan has been bombarded for years with letters from conspiracy theorists who believe President Obama was somehow secretly born in Kenya and so is ineligible to be president. The missives began even before Ryan became one of the president’s biggest foes on budget issues and more recently as he joined the GOP ticket alongside MItt Romney. But unlike some in his party who have been embarrassed by their own clunky and awkward responses to the birthers, Ryan has come up with...

(CNN) -- Fifty-two people were hurt Friday in a pileup involving dozens of vehicles on an interstate highway on Florida's Gulf Coast, police said. The accident, which occurred about 3:30 p.m., involved at least 46 vehicles in the southbound lanes of I-75 on the Manatee/Sarasota county line, said Lt. Chris Miller with the Florida Highway Patrol. Twenty-two people, three of them in critical condition, were taken to area hospitals, he said. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, he said. "Quite a few had minor injuries that didn't require transport," he said. The incident occurred about the time an afternoon...

A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:6-8)

TOTUS will overcome all potential difficulties. Due to President Obama's less than exemplary performance at the Wednesday night debate, serious concerns have been raised that not providing him even one single teleprompter was unfair. It was unfair, particularly in view of his great reliance on TOTUS. The truth is that President Obama needs a teleprompter at all times, even during his solitary morning meditations on the throne in the family bathroom. Governor Romney, on the other hand, neither needs nor uses one for any purpose. Their styles are very different and for the debate to have favored Governor Romney's style...

FISHERVILLE, Virginia -- Randy Goettge left Leesburg about 3:30 p.m. Thursday and the normal drive time should have gotten him to the Romney-Ryan "Victory Rally" here by the announced start time of 6 p.m. Unfortunately for Goettge, about 10,000 other Virginians had similar plans, producing what was surely the biggest traffic jam in the history of Augusta County. Traffic was backed up for miles in every direction -- all the way from the Highway 285 exit to Interstate 81 four miles west -- and by the time Goettge found a place to park and walk the final mile to the...

WASHINGTON: As it has happened in the past, Pakistan has been spared the rod by the United States for its international transgressions, this time for its continued patronage of terrorism in the region, in the interest of what Washington believes is American national security. The US state department last month waived legal requirements that made its nearly $ 2 billion annual aid to Pakistan contingent on its cooperation in counter-terrorism, ending nuclear proliferation and building democratic institutions, a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report released recently has revealed. Secretary of state Hillary Clinton is said to have informed Congress, which has...
