... Studies of various occupations suggest that the cost of flexibility is particularly substantial in some careers. In the case of MBA-degree holders, women are taking off somewhat more time than men are. Although women make far less than men in the financial and corporate sectors, most of the difference is due to their hours of work and, to some extent, to the amount of time they take off. When we say that women are working shorter hours, it’s still about 45–50 hours weekly. They’re just not working the jobs that demand super long hours. And the penalty in these...

Gloria Vanderbilt left almost all of her estate to her youngest son, Anderson Cooper — and nothing to her estranged middle son, Chris Stokowski, according to her will. The document, filed Monday in Manhattan surrogate court, says the recently deceased socialite fashion icon’s eldest son Leopold “Stan” Stokowski will get her Midtown pad in a co-op at 30 Beekman Place, but “all the rest” of her property goes to the CNN host. Vanderbilt — the great-great-great-granddaughter of railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt — died June 17 at age 95 after being diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer. It wasn’t immediately clear exactly...

SALT LAKE CITY — Sen. Mitt Romney took issue with President Donald Trump defending his relationship with the Saudi Arabian leader who allegedly ordered the hit on a Washington Post columnist. Trump said he was "extremely angry and very unhappy" about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi but claimed "nobody has directly pointed a finger" at Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, despite U.S. intelligence and a United Nations report saying otherwise. Trump had breakfast with the crown prince in Osaka, Japan, over the weekend, but did not press him on his involvement in Khashoggi's murder. "The President’s praise for MBS,...

See video at link. Andrew Yang has been censored by MSNBC. His mic was cut off during the debate so he could not respond. The other candidates' mics were NOT cut off. He only got two questions. Why? They (media punks) said Yang was the debate's "loser". They didn't even give him the chance to speak and tried to make him appear timid and stupid. Why don't the mainstream media want people to hear what Yang has to say?

Two things happened last week that may not seem connected, but are. The first was the release by the White House Council of Economic Advisors of a new report showing the deregulatory accomplishments of the Trump administration. The second was the gathering of nearly 1,000 social conservative activists from across the country for the annual conference held by the Faith and Freedom Coalition. While ending abortion and religious liberty remain the centerpiece issues for social conservatives, there is an important thread running through the beneficial impacts of deregulation and the beneficial impacts of strong families. This thread manifests itself in two ways. The first...

BY ROBERT PREIDT, HealthDay Reporter (HEALTHDAY) FRIDAY, June 28, 2019 (HealthDay News) -- Use of ambulances for non-emergency situations soared in New York City after the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a new study finds. With the advent of Obamacare -- and expanded access to Medicaid -- out-of-pocket costs for an ambulance dropped sharply for many people, making them more likely to ask for one in non-emergency situations, the researchers said. In some cases, it's cheaper to call an ambulance than to use Uber, they explained. "Medicaid patients in particular have incredibly low out-of-pocket responsibility for ambulances," said study author Andrew...

A JET stowaway’s body fell 3,500ft and smashed into a back garden — as the house’s horrified tenant sunbathed 3ft away. The tragic migrant plunged from the landing gear bay of the Kenya Airways plane over Clapham, South London. The 787 was lowering its wheels for a Heathrow landing. The tenant’s friend said: “He was so lucky not to be hit and killed. The impact obliterated the body.” The sunbather, in his 20s, was dozing in the garden of the terraced house as the body hit with such force it left a crater in the lawn and smashed a path....

Kamala Harris's emotional response to Joe Biden's busing record has less to do with segregation and more to do with virtue signaling. Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris was the talk of the debate last week following her supposed smackdown of former vice president Joe Biden. In the exchange, Harris told Biden that it was “hurtful” to hear him speak positively about working with segregationists to “get things done” in the Senate. She then pivoted to Biden’s past opposition to desegregation busing, describing a “little girl” who, in the 1970s, was part of the second class in her California grade school...

The former top lawyer for Hillary Clinton's failed presidential campaign who hired Fusion GPS to carry out controversial opposition research against then-candidate Donald Trump in 2016 is now working for a top 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful. Marc Elias, who heads Perkins Coie's political law group, became general counsel for California Sen. Kamala Harris' presidential bid this year. Elias, who held the same position in Clinton's campaign, is named in two pending Federal Election Commission complaints and in a recent federal lawsuit alleging that the Clinton campaign broke campaign finance laws when it used Perkins Coie to hire Fusion GPS. Fusion...

New York regulators asked an ethics panel to investigate potential conflicts of interest claims after the attorney general's office hired an attorney paid for by former mayor-turned-environmentalist billionaire Michael Bloomberg. The request was sent the same day that a government watchdog group filed an open records request about the hiring of two Bloomberg-funded attorneys into the attorney general's office. Bloomberg has turned his attention to environmental issues, gun control, and anti-tobacco regulations since leaving office. The former New York City mayor's most ambitious project has been funding the "State Energy and Environmental Impact Center" (SEEIC) at the New York University...

With its chanted antiphons and sweet-smelling incense, a divine liturgy at Toledo’s Joy of All Who Sorrow Parish is in some ways like any other in Eastern Orthodoxy. In other ways, it’s decidedly not. A commitment to full social, structural and sacramental inclusion of all people – regardless of their gender and sexuality – positions the parish outside the mainstream church hierarchy. While they remain true to what their founding bishop sees as an authentic expression of Eastern Orthodoxy, they’re carving out their own space in the ancient faith tradition. “What do you do when such an integral part of...
