"President Trump doesn’t want Africans flooding into his country. But let’s be honest. Who really does? Certainly not any other world leader of this era. Trump just happens to be the one bold or uncaring enough to say the quiet part out loud. He’s the rare white politician sparing us the trouble of deciphering what he might think. And Nigerians love him for it."

In the traditional Roman calendar this Sunday is called Septuagesima, Latin for the “Seventieth” day before Easter. The number 70 is more symbolic than arithmetical...For example, Septuagesima is the 63rd day before Easter and, therefore, it in the 7th (septimus) decade or 10-day period before Easter The Sundays which follow are Sexagesima (“sixtieth”) and Quinquagesima (“fiftieth”) before Ash Wednesday brings in Lent, called in Latin Quadragesima, “Fortieth”. These ancient pre-Lenten Sundays prepare us for the discipline of Lent, which once was far stricter. Sometimes I talk about “situational awareness”. That involves more than just looking around right here and right...

2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate Bernie Sanders refused to say whether he still backs capping the wages of the top earners in the United States. The senator from Vermont appeared on CNN on Sunday to discuss his campaign for president with State of the Union host Jake Tapper, who questioned the self-identified democratic socialist about a wage cap policy he championed in the 1970s and remained interested in until at least the early 1990s. "Early in your political career, way back in 1974, you said that it should be illegal to earn more money than someone could spend in his...

Parents packed the New Hanover County School Board meeting Tuesday, demanding for superintendent Tim Markley to be removed. Many of those parents and even a 12-year-old girl spoke out about the school sex scandal. This all comes after investigators arrested Roland Grise band teacher, Peter Frank. Frank is charged with a dozen felony sex crimes against female students. It’s the third arrest of a school system employee on these types of charges within the past two years. This was the second time this week the board met and did not mention the sex scandal. The meeting left parents more frustrated...

“The rules seem to be changing a little bit,” Biden said. “You know, if I’m Julio Castro or if I’m a couple of other guys [they make exceptions]. They didn’t change the rules to allow me to stand on the debate stage. But now, the rule gets changed to put someone else on the debate stage in a primary that he can’t even run in.” . . . When an audience member claimed that the most recent debate only garnered 7.9 million viewers, Biden quipped: “Come on, guys!”

"Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty." ---Derek Zoolander Clickbait ads disguised as real news stories are quite common. So if you saw the following headline, "Is America ready for a frank discussion about skincare?" in Politico would you not be correct in assuming this was yet another clickbait ad? Probably so except for the fact that you can see a photo of Elizabeth Warren next to the headline. So is it a real story or is it a skincare ad disguised as a news story that somehow got Warren to participate in the hype? Well,...

Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel stated in 2018 that “when the generation that survived the war is no longer here, we’ll find out whether we have learned from history.” As a Polish Jew born in 1925, who survived the Warsaw ghetto, lost my family in the Holocaust, served in a special operations unit of the Polish underground, the Home Army, and fought in the Warsaw uprising of 1944, I know what it means to be at the sharp end of European history – and I fear that the battle to draw the right lessons from that time is in danger of...

Actor-comedian Ricky Gervais viciously trolled Hollywood celebrities just hours ahead of Sunday’s Academy Awards, preemptively deflating their self-important acceptance speeches in a series of humorous tweets. Ricky Gervais took the stars to task for their progressive views on migrant workers, noting that many celebrities employ migrants in their homes to perform menial and backbreaking work. “I can’t wait to hear all your inspirational speeches about equality, and it’s great that the 3 hours you’re here tonight is the only time your badly paid migrant house staff will get some time off to sleep this week” https://t.co/fsFbdDkv6u — Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais)...

You can't overestimate the importance of the leadership principle. Mainstream socialists couldn't have pulled off the New Deal without the person of FDR. Without LBJ, soocially corrosive elites couldn't have pulled off the Great Society, subjecting to matriarchialization the African-American society that had a higher rate than whites of intact, biological families with the father in the home during the Depression--close your small biz, go down to City Hall & get free money but, by the way, Dad will have to go Papa Was a Rolling Stone. And you'd better watch what you say about female Hitler AOC, because know-nothing...

Alan Dershowitz, the Harvard law professor who was part of President Trump’s legal team during the Senate impeachment trial, said the top Democratic leaders in Congress “have to go” if the party wants to regain power. “I think they need new leadership. I think Schumer and Pelosi have to go. Schumer, because of his history of lying. You know, Pelosi actually called for me to be disbarred … because I had persuaded some senators” in the Senate trial, he said referring to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. “I think the Dems need new leaders if...

'I'm writing this note to you because as you know when school is out, there's really no time to talk, just a quick hug,' the note reads. 'For some time, I've been wanting to talk to you about spending time together... Maybe with some other friends of yours? What do you think?' another sentence says. . . . After reporting the note to school officials, the man was taken off that bus route. Edmond School District also said that the driver is no longer employed by the district.

If the Democratic Party is so left wing, then why isn’t a single of the top candidates against Washington’s recognition of Juan Guaido as the country’s president? Oh wait, there is one who does not recognize Guiado. It’s Bernie Sanders. Sanders is not an Independent for nothing. Last week, Guaido, who was once the official head of the National Assembly of Venezuela until Socialists United politics orchestrated a vote to get him out, was singled out by President Trump at his State of the Union address. Guaido was the only foreigner highlighted by the president. It wasn’t that Trump and...

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, a close ally of President Donald Trump, said Sunday that the Justice Department has established a way to review information gathered in Ukraine by Trump personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who has targeted Democrat Joe Biden and his son. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Attorney General William Barr told him during a conversation Sunday that the department has “created a process that Rudy could give information and they would see if it’s verified.” “Rudy Giuliani is a well-known man,” said Graham. “He’s a crime fighter. He’s loyal to the president. He’s a good lawyer.”...

During President Donald J. Trump's impeachment trial, we'll hear a lot of talk about our rules for governing. One frequent claim is that our nation is a democracy. If we've become a democracy, it would represent a deep betrayal of our founders, who saw democracy as another form of tyranny. In fact, the word democracy appears nowhere in our nation's two most fundamental documents, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. The founders laid the ground rules for a republic as written in the Constitution's Article IV, Section 4, which guarantees "to every State in this Union a Republican...

AYAHUALTEMPA, Mexico — Before he picked up a rifle and joined a squad of armed children, Alex wanted to become a schoolteacher. He’d teach anything — “whatever the principal asks” — because spending his days in a classroom sounded pretty good. He was 13, a B student with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bicycle who got nervous around the girls in his middle school. Then, in November, as violence surged in the mountains of Guerrero state, the men of Ayahualtempa decided it was time for their sons to take up arms.
