On June 27 the office of Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) announced a Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) investment of $300,000 for shotgun maker Maverick Arms. The TEF investment will be added to Maverick Arms own "$3.4 million in capital investment" to expand their Eagle Pass, TX, manufacturing facility. Shooters Grill in Rifle, Colorado, not only allows customers and employees to carry guns in the restaurant, they go out of their way to encourage it. According to the Post Independent, a sign on the front of the restaurant reads: "Guns are welcome on premises. Please keep all weapons holstered, unless the need arises. A national gun safety organization has set its sights on Minneapolis-based Target to stop gun-rights demonstrations in their stores. The group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense launched a petition on Wednesday. They’re asking Target’s interim CEO John Mulligan to establish a policy to prohibit people from openly carrying guns in its stores. “Already we’ve had several different restaurants say that they will no longer allow some open carry…some guns all together in their establishments,” said Shannon Watts with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense. A bill banning the sale of single-shot handguns that can be modified into semi-automatic weapons advanced in the California legislature on Thursday as lawmakers sought to close what the bill's supporters say is a loophole in the state's gun safety laws. Gun control advocates say thousands of weapons are sold in California each year without a required safety feature that indicates when a bullet is in the chamber, endangering children and others who may be shot accidentally. The bill passed the assembly 48-25, and goes to the state senate.

In a commercial set to run just before and after President Obama's January 28 State of the Union (SOTU) address, Gabrielle Giffords looks into the camera and says, "Congress is afraid of the gun lobby." According to the Associated Press , Giffords will push background checks as a way to "make it harder for criminals and the mentally ill to get guns." I live in what is considered a safe neighborhood and stay in "safe" areas, never had a problem YET. Not familiar with guns although my husband used to have quite a collection and I had a Baretta shotgun. I'm not so much afraid of home invasions or robberies at this point - but times are changing. What I'm more afraid of is our government setting off a stampede of marauding hoards. I have NO clue what might be useful for me - need advice.
