At least seven people were killed and 10 others injured in a 22-vehicle pileup during a sand or dust storm on Interstate 15 near the town of Kanosh, Utah on Sunday, CBS Salt Lake City affiliate KUTV reports. DETROIT — Ford Motor is significantly cutting its North American vehicle production in July due to an ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips impacting the global automotive industry. The automaker said Wednesday it will idle or reduce production at eight plants, including six in the U.S., for varying periods of time next month and into early August due to the problem. Affected products range from the Ford F-150 and Ford Bronco Sport to the Ford Mustang and Ford Explorer.

It looks like the ongoing semiconductor pain for the auto industry could finally be on the track to subsiding. That’s because car chip vendors are now able to “ramp up output” thanks to more foundry house support coming online, Digitimes Asia reported overnight. Pierce County Sheriff’s in the state of Washington are asking for its Twitter followers to take a good look at these catalytic converter thieves who hit a family’s Ford F-250, taking the emissions control device in less than 30 seconds. A dealership in Texas lost 20 catalytic converters in a matter of minutes earlier this week : a driver and the sawzall operator. They shimmied under the car and snatched up the part in seconds.

Organizers said Friday they are going ahead with plans for some big events which could provide a much-needed economic boost for the battered hospitality industry.
