LOS ANGELES (AP) ― The nation's second-largest school district has voted to make Cesar Chavez's March 31 birthday a school holiday. The school board resolution approved Tuesday calls for Superintendent Ramon Cortines to come up with a plan to drop another holiday in favor of the day off to honor the late United Farm Workers co-founder. Board member Yolie Flores Aguilar, who introduced the resolution, says a school holiday honoring Chavez is long overdue. Tuesday's Sacramento summit on a possible new state constitutional convention is picking up some interesting support, including the William C. Velasquez Institute, a think tank on Latino affairs.
