David Kurtz of the lefty website TPM -- to his credit -- published an email he received from a young reader living in New York City. The 32-year-old correspondent wrote that much to his chagrin as an ardent backer of the president and his unpopular healthcare law, he's unable to afford its price tag. He suggests that his personal situation exemplifies the broader problems the program will have attracting the participation of young, healthy people: I'm a 32 year-old healthy male that wants, but can't afford, Obamacare. I think the law is a step in the right direction, it just...

    email | Dec 30, 2013 | Barack Obama (supposedly)
Friend -- On January 1st, our nation turns a corner on health care -- and we're never going back. From here on, no American should have to go broke just because they get sick. You can't be dropped from your plan when you need it most. Pre-existing conditions will never prevent someone from getting coverage, and women can't be charged more than men for their plans. And for millions of Americans, affordable, quality coverage is finally within reach. I am so proud of that. And I have people like you to thank, truly. Fundamental change like this doesn't happen just...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK) The millions of Americans who received termination notices for their insurance policies are “thrilled” that they now have other options on the exchanges, saus HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius. The cancellations allowed people to be “unlocked from a policy” that most actually didn’t want, she explained during a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee. “A lot of individuals who received cancellation notices are thrilled with the choices that are now available to them.”(continued)

While certain Democrats remain undaunted in their insistence that the whole lot of ‘em are totally, absolutely, unequivocally going to be running on ObamaCare in 2014 and using it “as an advantage,” other Democrats are clearly feeling a little more… well, daunted. CLICK ABOVE LINK FOR THE VIDEO When Sen. Landrieu learned that individuals who liked their health insurance could no longer keep it, despite the President’s promise, she wrote legislation to insure that the promise was kept. As a result, the President issued guidance allowing states and insurance companies to renew individual health plans for another year. Dang. This...

The late, great Milton Friedman used to say, there's no such thing as a free lunch. The ancient Romans had another pointed saying: "Quod erat demonstrandum," meaning, roughly, remember now what I told you, doofus? To put it another way, is there room for surprise in the report that high deductibles may contribute to making Obamacare something less than the divine blessing its authors meant it to be? For all the comforting promises out of D.C., relayed to the general public with profound sweetness, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Someone always pays. To believe otherwise is a)...
  • Provision in Obamacare Likely to Force Up Cost of Many Family Plans

In an ongoing trend, unrelated to Obamacare, companies have been passing on more and more healthcare costs to employees. However, an ACA gotcha has impacted the way costs are passed on, with families taking a bigger hit than individuals at many companies. Please consider Companies Prepare to Pass More Health Costs to Workers. Many employers are betting that the Affordable Care Act's requirement that all Americans have health insurance starting in 2014 will bring more people into their plans who have previously opted out. That, along with other rising expenses, is prompting companies to raise workers' premium contributions, steer them...

Obama has apologized for claiming "if you like your health plan you can keep it," but Democrats to his left are standing their ground. Nancy Pelosi was unrepentant at a press conference on Friday, Politico reports. She said Obama had no need to apologize because his claim was "absolutely" precise. "There's nothing in the Affordable Care Act that says that your insurance company should cancel you," she told reporters. "That's not what the Affordable Care Act is about. It simply didn't happen."

For several days I’ve been relaying nefarious inside information from current and former employees about the Planned Parenthood Keystone affiliate in Pennsylvania (i.e., unsanitary conditions, slave wages and exorbitant healthcare premiums, and ridiculous patient charges). On November 12, a worker at Planned Parenthood Allentown wrote this comment about yet another apparent wrong being committed by PP Keystone: bait-and-switch abortions. Here in Allentown when abortion patients show up half of them don’t know we don’t offer general anesthesia. Talk about informed consent. If they knew that they would all go to Allentown Women’s Center a city over. By the time they...

Retired chemist Edward Schokowitz was incredulous when he received a letter from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey early last month saying his Medicare Advantage Plan, which had no premium, would be eliminated next year.“They took all the senior citizens and threw us out of the plan. They now want to give us the same plan for $153 [per month],” he told the Daily Caller. “The President said you can’t be kicked out of your plan. He lies.”Schokowitz is one of many Medicare beneficiaries now learning that — like Americans who buy insurance on the individual market —...

As a child in elementary school, I was the epitome of an underachiever. You could always count on me to get the lowest score on a test, because I lacked even the basic knowledge of an unsophisticated street kid. I secretly admired the smart children in school and wondered how they always seemed to know the answers to any question the teachers would ask. I would have been doomed to failure but my mother, who was a domestic, keenly observed that her employers did a great deal of reading. She determined that my brother and I would become avid readers...

Why do a vast majority of the American public continue to fall for the constant lies coming out of Washington? What is it that they just don’t see?Time and time again the rug is pulled out from under them and they still fall for the same old “bait and switch”.Politicians know it and now they have no qualms about continuing the lies even after we know they are lies! FReepers, we are looking at perhaps one of most epic acts of 'bait and switch' ever perpetrated on the American people. Thought the Fast & Furious, IRS, NSA, DOJ spying on Fox News, and Benghazi scandals were bad? The Obama administration's crime of willfully misrepresenting Obamacare in order to get the public to support it and Congress to pass it is perhaps the most deeply personal 'bait and switch' in all of American history, ever. No political scandal in our history has affected each and every one of us as deeply and personally by triggering the loss of our current...

As CNN points out, that is simply false: Sebelius is actually legally allowed to get insurance over the exchange but she would have to forego the employer contribution to her premiums. In the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan, that employer contribution accounts for a majority of her premiums. In order to get a private health insurance plan through Obamacare, Sebelius would have to pass up what surely amounts to more than $10,000 in annual compensation.
