A Catholic priest has been robbed at gunpoint of his car just outside the church where he is living. The Rev. Paul Williams tells The News Journal of Wilmington (http://delonline.us/169WEvr ) that he was moving his car outside St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Wilmington Wednesday morning when a man pointed a gun at him. At least one man is in custody after a violent sexual assault that happened during a home invasion. Three men were inside a home on Orr Street when four armed men forced their way inside. The intruders taped the victims' mouths, noses, and eyes. Their wrists and ankles were bound with plastic ties. One of the victims was taken to one room, while the other two were taken to another. The fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last month by a neighborhood-watch volunteer was a sickening and — unless new facts come to light — unjustified loss of an innocent life. Unless Martin’s killer, George Zimmerman, had reason to believe that Martin was armed, shooting him was a grossly disproportionate response to a fistfight, even leaving aside the fact that Zimmerman had initiated the encounter. If such a shooting is justified under Florida’s broad self-defense law, that law has licensed violence that goes far beyond legitimate self-defense. Greg Howard, a Chicago teen, was killed by a gunman who opened fire in the vestibule of an apartment building. Monae Turnage, a Baltimore teen, was shot to death in an alley and left hidden under a pile of trash. Ervin Jefferson, an Atlanta teen, was shot and killed by private security guards. A University Park man who killed a neighbor whose dog urinated on his lawn was sentenced today to four years probation. "This is not justice," said Gail Williams, the slain man's aunt.
