The ceremony will take place in New York City, where players such as Ted Williams and Bob Feller undoubtedly will be remembered. Williams flew 37 combat missions in World War II and Korea, and Feller missed four seasons to serve in the Army, enlisting after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. The USS Cooperstown joins the active fleet of Freedom-variant littoral combat ships. The Department of Defense describes LCS ships as "fast, optimally-manned, mission-tailored surface combatants that operate in near-shore and open-ocean environments." Johnny Bench and Joe Torre represented their fellow Hall of Fame members at the ceremony.

Last week, the Cardinals ended months of speculation and posturing by announcing that they will be moving their radio broadcasts from KMOX, where they have been since 1955, to KTRS - much to the consternation of many fans. This week, the controversy has moved to sports-talk radio station KFNS, as afternoon drive-time co-host Mike Claiborne had a contentious interview with Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller - with Feller hanging up after Claiborne called him a racist. Later, when discussing the incident, Claiborne used an expletive in describing Feller. Feller, 86, was on the show Wednesday, discussing his baseball career...

GATES MILLS, OH - Baseball Hall-of-Famer and World War II veteran Bob Feller announced today his support for President Bush’s strong leadership: “While President Bush’s leadership in the War on Terror has made America’s veterans proud of our commander-in-chief, John Kerry's changing position shows he cannot be trusted with our safety and security. John Kerry voted to take action in Iraq, but later declared himself an anti-war candidate. Then, after saying it would be ‘irresponsible’ not to support our troops, he voted against the $87 billion to provide our troops with supplies like body armor. He explained that vote by...
