My reading has really increased over the past year since I switched to Kindle and now spend two hours a day commuting to Manhattan by train. I thought I would start a thread for all of you Science Fiction and Fantasy readers. I know it has been done in the past, but it seemed like a good time to run it again. If you have any favorite books or stories to recommend post it for others to share. I have received some excellent advice on some good reads. Maybe you have a good title or author to recommend.

The end of a year or a decade tempts many of us to make up lists of the best or the worst of things—events, movies, songs, books—during the interval that is coming to a close. Having consumed many such lists, I now undertake to produce one of my own, with a twist. The twist is that I cannot in good conscience represent my list as one that contains the best books of the past decade. I'm planning on reading a biography of Abraham Lincoln for a nice non-fiction change of pace. As you can imagine, there's so many Lincoln biographies out there I wouldn't know where to begin! Certainly, I would like to begin with the cream of the crop, but which one would it be? Can't resist it - I was raised on American culture and am all the happier for it. It formed me culturally and made me what I am. Sunday morning vanity for a buddy. One of his new careproviders is fufilling his interest in reading books out loud to him. He does not care for books on tape as he enjoys the interaction of reading with someone. He is a quadroplegic 27yrs now and very active in all aspects of life, case you are wondering. There have been several science fiction threads floating around in the near past - and I thought it would be good to hash out the books. Here are my thoughts: Almost anything by Larry Niven is worth it - especially stuff from the Known Space series. Jerry Pournelle is also good, but under-rated. I was reviewing my libray and was wondering what the best, all time favorite, must have books I should get to complete my Conservative Collection. Here's what I've got: God & Man at Yale, All PJ O'Rourke Books (He converted me in 1996), Witness, First Things by Hadley Arkes (Must read for Pro-lifers!) Any thoughts, Freepers?
