  • Pigeons Took Toll On Failed Bridge

Back in Boston in the 1980s nesting baxes for peregrine falcons were installed on the roof tops of office buildings.

From my office on the 20+th floor I would at times be treated to a view of a falcon nose diving and capturing a hapless pigeon. Over time, the result was more peregrine falcons and fewer pigeons.

A problem was that Bostonians did not like seeing a hapless pigeon being torn apart by a falcon.

I think this is a way of saying that prohibiting aborion will lead to women using coathangers.

We need to do more of that to more of THEM!

In the early 1990’s the city of Boston put nesting boxes for peregrine falcons on the roof tops of some office buildings. It was interesting watching the falcons dive bomb unsuspecting pigeons.

  • Michael Chertoff, Homeland Security Secretary, talks about Immigration Bill

    You are so right!

Chertoff apparently does not realize that this is not about immigration; it is about a 20+ year long INVASION!

You would think that the head of Homeland ‘insecurity’ would recognize the difference between the two.

    I guess we will just have to wait patiently until Chertoff (or El Senor Presidente Boosh) finally gets it;

OR until enough Americans have been killed byy illegals or by terrorists coming across our still unprotected borders.

This is not about immigration in the least.

It is about the continuing invasion of our undefended country by foreign invaders.

If this does not constitute a High Crime/Misdemeanor I do not know what else it could be.

Well, we sold tons and tons of scrap metal to Japan in the 30’s and it came back to us in the form of Japanese zeros and bullets.

This time it will come back to us in the form of much more deadly weapons.

    I agree.

We need to start using DDT again. The Rachel Carson myth has been sufficiently disproved and millions of human beings have perished as a result.

They were sacrificed on the altar of environmentalism.

Social Security operated with a huge surplus (more$ coming in than being paid out) for a very very, long time.

But what did the Feds due with the surplus?

Did they set it aside in order to provide for the millions of baby boomers who would be retiring in the near future?

Of Course not, they spent all the darn money!

Now with the Boomers starting to retire in droves, the SSA is in a real pickle as there are not enough funds to fully pay SS benefits.

Then add to the mix the new SS bennies like prescription drugs.

Temper that with the huge influx of newly minted citizens eligible for SS bennies if El Senor Presidente Bush gets his 12 million illegals transformed into American citizens.

You can kiss any of your hard earned SSA bennies GOODBYE!

Is it time to get a Panamanian passport yet??

I'd like to add to the list the Egypt Air flight that was downed intentionally into the Pacific by it's Egyptian pilot as he was shouting 'Allah Akbar'!

During WWII we did not permit our enemies such as the Germans, Italians, and the Japanese to enter our country.

During WWII we did not permit our enemies such as the Germans, Italians, and the Japanese to enter our country.

Many from Germany, Italy and Japan who were legal non-citizen residents were deported immediately.

Why the heck are we letting citizens of islamo-fascist countries into our country during our 'War in Terror'?

IMHO if this were a real war on 'Terror', folks from these islamo-fascist countries would not be allowed into our country AND citizens from those islamo-fascist countries already in our country would be rounded up and immediately sent back from whence they came.

Unfortunately our looney-lefty courts will not permit that to be done.

If we had issued a formal declaration of war against ‘Militant Islam’ maybe we could be more pro-active in our defense. But IMHO, nothing more will be done until there is another incident that will likely kill us by the thousands.

Do any Freepers have any info about what happened to this great idea?

Many folks are aware of the mass slaughter of Armenians by the Turks in 1915.

Armenians are Christian and so therefore have been subject to Muslim oppression for a thousand+ years.

However, I was unaware that there was another slaughter by the Turks 20 years earlier at the end of the 19th century.

  • Lawmakers Considers Penalty on States That Give Illegal Aliens Driver's Licenses

Not counting illegals in the Census is a great idea!

Currently, illegals are counted in the census which is used in doling out government funds.

Local businesses pay illegals off the books so FICA, Federal Income Tax and state/local income taxes are not being paid by the illegals and their employers.

Therefore area where these non-taxpaying illegals live receive federal, state and local funds for their upkeep w/o the tax money being paid into the local, state or federal coffers.

Businesses can profit greatly by hiring illegals; they need to be encouraged to not hire illegals.

Neither party will move on this.

It’s up to us to start a grass roots movement.

    I humbly suggest the following.

    Dear Business Owner;

I was in your establishment and happened to notice that you may be employing illegal aliens.

Please be advised that you are required to collect FICA, federal, state and local income taxes.

You are also required to have a valid social security number for each employee and remit taxes on a quarterly basis.

Please ensure that you are following all applicable employment and tax laws.

  • Wanted: A Republican with a spine

I could understand the Republican lack of, oh well, shall we say testosterone, when they were the minority.

Being in the Congress or Senate was a good job, the pay was OK and the benefits and pension plan was fantastic.

And heck, the Democrats were in control so one did not have to do anything at all.

With no heavy lifting involved, all a Republican had to do was get re-elected.

But now the Republicans are the majority and it seems they just do not want to go to work.

I can just imagine the Republicans getting together and hoping for a return of the good old days when they could just go to cocktail parties and send out a letter to their constituents telling them what a fine job they were doing.

These guys want to be the minority.

And in my mind they are doing a good job of getting there.

Thanks BJungNam, I hope neither of us has to be in the position of having to watch someone die of thirst or be the person to watch someone die that way.

My dilemma is how can I sign a living will knowing that someone I love must make a decision to let me die of dehydration?

Or how can I make that decision for someone I love? And then be with them as they die?

I am pretty tough, but those are circumstances I don't know how to face.

People think that if they sign a living will everything will be easy.

    Somehow I don't think so.

Again I just have questions, and no answers.

I am not going to address the Schiavo situation.

But suppose you have a living will and you direct that should you be in a persistent vegetative state you be allowed to die.

And you find yourself in such a situation, God forbid.

The law allows no choice but starvation and dehydration.

    That is it.

I don't know if I could allow someone I care for to end his/her life in such a manner, no matter what the living will said. It would be a terrible ethical and human dilemma.

I have had to put down sick animals and the process is quick and seemingly painless.

I have problems with the legalization of euthanasia, but I also have problems having someone die of thirst.

    No answers here, just questions.
