Iran on Tuesday claimed “calm has been restored in the country” following protests triggered by a massive hike in gasoline prices, but the Internet remained down and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it was mobilizing half a million members of a brutal paramilitary force known as the Basij to control the streets.

They got him. Just as I feared they would. My nephew Kyle came to live with us this summer after his freshman year of college. Apparently he’s now a deputized member of the cultural-appropriation police.

In August of this year, my GF's dad celebrated a reunion with the remaining members of his Marine company. These guys went through it in Korea. I just wanted to post this as a tribute. From John (5th from left): This gang was a small part of Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, (Not needed ~The First Marine Division. The only Division in Korea.) Our platoon was 81mm Mortars. We all made the Inchon Landing on September 15, 1950. We took part in 6 major battles including the Chosin Reservoir, from November 27th until about December 15th. Countless small...

OK FReepers, I am becoming frustrated FReeping on my iPad. Ever since the most recent update to Safari (iPad 8.4), whenever I click to read an article and then click back to the forum page my browser goes to the top of the page instead of back to the point at which I clicked away. This makes for excessive scrolling just to get back to where I left off. Any of you iPad users experiencing this or is it just me? (I am logged in) I read other forums where this does not happen, and the boss says nothing has...

Vanity post. My first, and probably only, as I am not prone to doing so. I read FR mostly on my Android phone. Recently the thread comments are showing up in an impossibly small font height. The initial post, the plea for donations, as well as some comments are in a legible size, but most comments are unreadable. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it a recent Android bug? I am logged in, and am going to take a shower while I wait to try and read the impossibly small replies from fellow FReepers.

Gibson’s “American Sniper” Les Paul Raises Funds for U.S. Veterans | GALLERY BY GP STAFF April 3, 2015 Gibson has created a one-off custom guitar to help raise funds for U.S. veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The Chris Kyle Commemorative Les Paul Standard Special—a.k.a the American Sniper—features an American flag–and-skull finish and top-hat control knobs crafted from ammo shells. The guitar is named for former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was depicted in the 2014 film American Sniper. Kyle is the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history and in 2012 wrote a memoir of his experiences,...
  • Atlanta rappers lose freestyle battle to woman, set her on fire

Three miserable rappers in Atlanta have also shown themselves to be miserable human beings. Joey Garron, 28, Robert Johnson, 23 and Ketorie Glover, 23, apparently thought they had mad skills when it came to freestyle rap. However, over the weekend at a house party they met their match in a 36-year-old black female rapper. During the freestyle battle she matched all three men, rhyme per rhyme, topping them each time. Finally, after the last exchange the three sore losers could take no more. One of the men pulled out a gun and forced her into a car. The other two...

Israeli troops entering Gaza last week have so far uncovered 18 tunnels used by Hamas to send armed terrorists into Israel and built using an estimated 800,000 tons of concrete. What else might that much concrete build? Erecting Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, required 110,000 tons of concrete. Hamas, then, could’ve treated itself to seven such monstrosities and still had a few tens of thousands of tons to spare. If it wanted to build kindergartens equipped with bomb shelters, like Israel has built for the besieged citizens of Sderot, for example—after all, noted military strategists like Jon Stewart...

The Midas Touch is named for the mythical Greek king Midas, who is said to have been able to turn everything he touched into gold. The Left has the opposite ability: to turn virtually everything it touches into rubble. Sometimes it happens quickly; sometimes it takes generations. But it is inevitable.

ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia police are investigating the possibility someone set up a fake Facebook account in a student's name then used it to make racially offensive posts to two minority student organizations. The posts were made earlier this week to Facebook pages belonging to the UGA Black Affairs Council and the LGBT Resource Center. The posts sparked a protest Friday afternoon as more than 200 UGA students, faculty and administrators marched across the Sanford Stadium bridge on campus. "I thought it was disgusting and hateful," said UGA grad student Ethan Epps. "I was embarrassed to be a...
