  • Pew Research Poll: More Now Disagree with Tea Party – Even in Tea Party Districts

Actually the poll makes perfect sense given the time (October) and the fight over the deficit cap and the associated headlines.

For the TEA party, media outlets were reporting a hard line of shut everything down - resulting in a threat from Obama to withhold social security checks.

GOP wise People were (still are) still seething over the deal and view what happened as a form of betrayal. The result was a negative kick back.

If it is one thing we have to worry about in 2012 it is sitting at home and splitting the vote. My guess is that Democrats are planning on it.

Before people start making mass assumptions, lets find out what is actually in the proposal.

After all, arent we supposed to READ the bill instead of taking someone else’s word for it?

The reason why the race is so close is because of “TEA party” Candidate Jack Davis.

    http://www.rollcall.com/news/poll_new_york_special_election_closer_than_expected-205191-1.html

Anyone know if this guy is legit or a Democrat implant? He is apparently taking 23% of the vote.

The GOP candidate, Corwin, is only getting 56% of the Republican vote and ~34% of indepedents.

While I would argue that the district is not representative of the rest of America, this Davis guy who is running could foreshadow what would happen if people decide to splinter from the GOP in 2012.

As Rush says, running a third party does nothing more than committ political suicide.

If the dude wanted to make a difference, you continue to fight from within and retake the GOP from its roots up.

    Not good in either case.

I hope Beck, Limbaugh or Hannity picks up on this. Chilling to say the least.

    Legitimate threats should be explored.

Using the FBI to chill critical political opponents is a huge no-no.

I would caution we do not know a lot about this guy.

  • Former Missouri state treasurer Sarah Steelman to run against Sen. Clair McCaskill in 2012

I would urge caution with Steelman.

In my mind as a Missourian and political observer I would note that she seems to be a political opportunist. How do I define that? She will use what ever argument fits her at the time to win. Just ask former congressman Kenny Hulshoff.

Do not be misled into believing motives.

Unlike many tea party/grass roots activist, she is more of an establishment figure than what you may believe - including working being endorsed by at lease one state union. Her husband was selected for a job for current Democrat governor Jay Nixon. Did I mention she coddled extreme left wing journalist David Catanese?

Let me be up front on why I have no problem breaking Reagan’s 11th commandment when speaking about Steelman. She had no problem doing so with Hulshoff or anyone else, regardless if they deserved it or not.

Is Steelman an upgrade over McCaskill? By far.

I would have trouble voting for her, however. Because its always about her and her self.

Steelman is NOT Sarah Palin and is nothing more than an opportunist. Dont take my word for it - look to nothing more than her husband who took a job from Gov Nixon (Democrat).

Check out a little more into her past and how as a state senator she got along quite well with Unions and then ran a scorched earth campaign against Kenny Hulshoff for governor.

Not to be outdone, she yanked the media and constituency in Missouri around with the idea of Challenging Roy Blunt for Senate; using much of the same rhetoric which Robin Carnahan tried to use. In fact at one point she commented on Blunt being a white male.

Of course she eventually did decide to do step aside.

You may be asking at this point why all the bitterness toward Steelman from my angle? Because I tire of people making comparisons to Sarah Palin when anyone and everyone in the state knows that is simply not true.

In my view she is nothing more than an arrogant egotistical opportunist and it gets underneath my skin to see someone who does not deserve such praise to receive it.

I really do not know who would be the best to run against McCaskill. Outside of Kinder, I am not really thrilled by the list of names given.

you’ll support him to the death regardless.

No, I wont. There is a reason why Roy repudiated some of his votes during the 2001-2003 time frame and made it right. His constituency (thats me) didnt stand for it. To me, that is far more measure of a man and real leadership than some untagible and yet to define set of criteria that I have yet to see.

To be perfectly honest, I would settle for a nonflashy work horse who voted and represented me and kept my freedoms and liberties than someone who is on the front of the newspaper all the time.

Jim Talent was more of a moderate - but still had a principled conservative back bone. He was a work horse who busted his tail for Missourians. Some Missourians disagreed with that philosophy and voted for Claire McCaskill in 2006. Look where that landed the nation, let alone the state.

Perhaps that, in addition to the fact Roy is my Congressman, is why I am probably overly sensative to the matter.

In what capacity did Steelman’s hubby land a job with Nixon? David Steelman was appointed to the state MOSERS board. http://governor.mo.gov/newsroom/2009/New_appointees_to_MOSERS_Board In a related note, Democrats sought to prevent nepotism on the same board. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/political-fix/article_8f5244c0-8396-11df-b96e-00127992bc8b.html

His voting record doesn't play nearly as big a role as his LEADERSHIP does.

Okay, so his voting record doesnt count - even when it establishes Roy as being a rock solid conservative. I see clearly now.

They're supposed to be high profile and constantly defending the party and its agenda in all media capacities. Roy was nowhere to be found in doing so.

Your arugment is sprawling, still lacks relevency and most importantly untrue. Most recently (and relevent) Blunt worked on pushing for market based healthcare reform. (see this 2009 video straight from his office website - 30 sec google search http://blunt.house.gov/Read.aspx?ID=1059)

Perhaps most telling is that to this point you have yet to cite specifics and more importantly, how those examples of allegations should encourage Missouri voters to stay home and or vote for Robin Carnahan.

e can “listen” to all the people in the world, but whether he “hears” them is something entirely different, and it still won’t change my assessment of him. He is an establishment RINO, not a reformer.

Prove it. Show me where Roy's policies stand in opposition to limited government. He may not be a libertarian, but over the years he has more than proven him self to be conservative. Again, I know because he is my congressman and to be honest, I am sick of seeing his good name - and my district by proxy - drug through the mud.

You can legitimately complain about a number of votes Roy made in 2001 until about 2003 or so. They were not popular here at home and renounced them later - and has proven it in Congress over and over again when it counts (during votes).

I choose not to refute your comment about his tenure ad Whip because guess what, it is NOT RELEVENT. I know *gasp*. What is relevent is how the man voted and what policies he is pushing. I know *shock*.

If you have specific policy issues proving he is a RINO and especially in the past couple of years, lets hear it. If you can show me that he is not listening to his constituents here in the 7th Cong district - and those Missourians who he is talking to state wide now, show me. Other wise, stop spreading misinformation and helping Obama by electing Carnahan.

I would add that unless you are from Missouri (maybe even 7th Congressional district) - you have no right to comment on Roy being a success or failure simply because he did his job well and indeed "hears" from the constituency.

For one, he is part of the party establishment that fears Tea Partiers

Wow, now I KNOW you aren't from Missouri or Roy's Congressional district. If there is one thing that Roy does, it is stop and listen to people. I know he has especially tried to talk and listen to "tea partiers."

If there is a single reason why Roy won this district by the large margins, it is because he takes the time to stop and listen to people. It is also probably why he is winning. If you dont believe me, take time to stop and read how often he is criss-crossing the state and visiting not just large cities, but the smaller stops along the way.

So no, even in 2008 I dont believe he would lose by such a wide margin - unless we have people do to Roy what they did to Hulshof.

For those who dont remember - Sarah Steelman fired both torpedoes in the primary into Hulshof's bow and pretty much handed Nixon the battle plans on how to defeat Kenny in the fall.

The end result was a land slide for Nixon (Steelman's husband ended up with a job from Nixon later in 2009).

So really you could say whether or not Carnahan wins this year depends upon how many of the lies equating Roy to a RINO people are willing to buy into.

Do you have a link to his "market based solution?"

20 seconds of unthoughtful research yielded the following: http://www.royblunt.com/issues.php?id=60

I fully admit to only skimming the topic from the website - but would ask if this is what Roy was talking about on the radio. If not, again could you provide some sort of evidence that Roy was pushing a socialist program.

I have live in Roy's district for decades and have never heard the man push any such proposal, even when he was county clerk. What you posted runs contrary to the man I know. This raises a flag for me.

If there have been any pit falls for Roy, it was that he didnt demand earmark reform fast enough and you could be critical of his fiscal policies from 2001-~03.

Pushing a socialist health care agenda? No way no how.

Blunt's a RINO. I heard an interview of him the day after the primary and he was very reticent about repealing Obamacare. Something about needing some other socialist program to take it's place.

This is a lie from the pit of hell its self. Roy does want to repeal Obamacare. He was passionate about doing so. How do I know? He is my Congressman.

It is true that he is not perfect, but he is far from a RINO and has represented this district and our conservative values very well.

Before you start calling someone a RINO (especially Roy), I think its fair to point out specifically what policy he was proposing that was socialist in nature.

If memory serves me correctly, Roy is proposing to replacing Obamacare with a market based solution. I would agree that. We shouldnt be just repealing the God forsaken piece of legislation - but trying to introduce ideas which truly reform the industry by introducing market based methods.

I want people to know and be aware of who they are reading and why the word choice and visualization was selected for the story.

Its too bad, really, because this is a very conservative part of the state. It is unfortunate we gotta put up with the news casts we do.

Be forewarned that Ron Davis is a known political hack and Democrat operative. His blog: http://chatterbyrondavis.blogspot.com/

Michelle Sherwood is cut from the same relative cloth.

Do some quick searches of politics over the past four years or feelings about figures in the blogs and enjoy the reading.

I doubt most viewers know this about who writes and delivers the news for the area.

The reporter, David Catanese from KY3, is highly biased and stabs local/state and conservative figures in the back frequently and with glee. The same can be said about Michelle Sherwood from KSPR (and dont even go there with Ron Davis who is a known Democratic hack).

While the local paper (News-leader.com) isnt a whole lot better, their political reporter is even handed. You might want to try ozarksfirst.com as well.

Keep in mind the reporter and television station which posted this.

They are nothing more than an outlet for Democrats and the reporter recently noted that Claire McCaskill was someone independent and a budget hawk.

The only thing KY3, an NBC affiliate, has not done is replace their motto to “DNC TV.”

The whole point in this piece was to make the area GOP look bad and CYA for McCaskill who voted for the bill. Remember, SW Missouri is the traditionally conservative part of the state.

If this man and the station can influence people that the bill signed by Obama was justified, then it allows Democrats to stay in the game, especially for the 2010 senate seat. If we stick to our guns that the whole thing was a crap sandwich, then it proves how much of a hack McCaskill is.
