  • Mary Landrieu’s Tall Task in the Louisiana Runoff

Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary L. Landrieu has already made it quite clear that she isn’t going to go quietly in her bid to win a fourth term in next month’s Dec. 6 runoff. Her effort to brand Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy as “nearly incoherent” ranks up there with Kentucky Democrat Dan Mongiardo’s effort to label Republican Sen. Jim Bunning as not entirely in control of his senses during that state’s 2004 Senate race. (Bunning, who started the race as an overwhelming favorite, was re-elected by only 22,000 votes, a margin of fewer than 2 points.) This is the ultimate example...
  • For Congress, a final term for Fitzpatrick (Pennsylvania)

    11/10/2014 12:45:03 PM PST · by Clintonfatigued · 12 replies
Assessing the candidates vying to represent Bucks County in Congress, it’s easy to get hung up on the residency issue. But it’s a mistake to do so. Incumbent Republican Mike Fitzpatrick is a Bucks County native. He grew up here, went to school here, climbed the political ladder here, eventually serving as county commissioner and then as our congressman. It’s Fitzpatrick’s second run, having been unseated several years ago but reclaiming the seat and now making what he said would be his final bid to represent Bucks and a portion of Montgomery County in Washington, D.C.

For the first time since 1953, Republicans will have the majority in the New Mexico House of Representatives. Current election numbers have Republicans with 37 seats, which is four more than the Democrats control. There were five battleground races Tuesday, according to KOAT political analyst Brian Sanderoff. The GOP won all of those races.

The GOP ousted three incumbent Democrats and held all but one of their existing seats to reclaim a majority in the Senate - the Republicans’ only stronghold in state government.
  • McSally still up but not by much in CD2 race (Arizona)

Nearly a week after the 2014 midterm elections there is still no definitive winner in the race for Arizona's seat in Congress for district two. More than 3,300 were counted on Sunday revealing that the difference in votes between Congressman Ron Barber and Republican challenger Martha McSally is even closer. While McSally is still holding a slight lead, the two are now only separated by 341 votes. After this latest round of counting Martha McSally has 106,705 votes to Ron Barber's 106,374. Between Pima County and Cochise County there is an estimated total of 15,977 ballots left to count.
  • Another Alaska Paper Says Republican To Win After Remaining Votes Get Counted

Republican Dan Sullivan is expected to defeat Democratic Sen. Mark Begich in the final vote count in the Alaska Senate race, according to an analysis by a reporter for Alaska Public Radio Network. Reporter Alexandra Gutierrez’s analysis arrived at the same conclusion as an analysis conducted by Alaska News-Miner. Begich would reportedly need to win more than 56 percent of the uncounted votes to overtake Sullivan. Sullivan led Begich by 8,149 votes after Election Day last week, but Begich refused to concede. The Democrat is waiting on more than 21,000 uncounted absentee ballots, allegedly from rural areas where the mail...
  • Leftists Are Hateful Children

I operate on the assumption that leftists are four years old emotionally, and as such they are narcissistic: they perceive things as either all-good or all-bad. Let's take the leftist hatred of Christianity, which they see as the most horrible thing in the world. Why can they not see what Islam is? Because they can only perceive everything as good or bad, with nothing in-between. So if Christianity is evil ("spook in the sky," etc.) then Islam has to be good. I think it's just that simple. Right now leftists are overwhelmingly for open borders ("It's for the children"). But...

"Finally, after 40 years, our community made history today," Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen said on Tuesday night at Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Garden Grove. Nguyen's touching statement came as the Orange County Election Authority showed her leading in the Senate District 34 race at 62 percent of the vote by 10pm, with her Democratic rival Jose Solorio trailing behind at 38 percent. This is the first time the United States has had a state senator of Vietnamese descent. The state's 34th District includes parts of Long Beach and Orange County.

Republican Bonnie Garcia on Friday conceded defeat in the 28th Senate District race. In a mass email, Garcia, a former assemblywoman, said she called Republican and Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone “to congratulate him and wish him well.” “I'm proud of the fact that I stayed true to who I am without straying from my core values and sought to serve the entire community, not just those who voted for me,” she said. “My sincere desire is that we continue to move in a positive direction to embrace the changing demographics of our country, rebuild our educational institutions to give...

During their campaign for U.S. Senate, incumbent Democrat Mark Begich and Republican challenger Dan Sullivan were all over the state. But since the last votes were counted early Wednesday morning--and with tens of thousands of absentee and other outstanding votes set to be counted next week--both campaigns have gone quiet.

In Arizona’s 2nd District, the Republican, retired Air Force Col. Martha McSally, saw her lead over Democratic Rep. Ron Barber diminish after officials counted more ballots Thursday. She leads Barber by a 363-vote margin, with about 17,000 ballots outstanding. That lead shrunk from the 1,293-vote margin McSally had after Election Day. In California, six races remain uncalled. Each county has their own process to count ballots, and it could be at least a week before winnere are declared. Republicans lead in two of those contests: •In the Sacramento-based 7th District, former Rep. Doug Ose leads Democratic Rep. Ami Bera by...

-- Republican Ed Gillespie conceded the Virginia Senate race Friday to incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner. Gillespie said at a Friday afternoon news conference that he had called Warner "congratulating him on his re-election" in a race that turned out to be one of the midterm election's biggest surprises. Polls had shown Warner, a popular former governor who'd been endorsed by his Republican predecessor, ex-Sen. John Warner, with a hefty lead. But Gillespie led Warner for much of the night as returns trickled in Tuesday -- and ultimately ended up trailing by less than one percentage point. Get ready: 2016...

The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) offers our warmest congratulations to the Jewish Republicans who won their races yesterday in the important election of 2014. We are especially delighted that Lee Zeldin won his congressional race in New York’s first district, making him the Jewish Republican in the 114th U.S. Congress. We are also pleased that the Jewish Republicans in state offices around the country won their reelections. Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens, Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel, South Dakota State Senator Dan Lederman, Texas State Representative and House Speaker Joe Straus and Texas State Representative Craig Goldman all won reelection....

Congressional candidate Aumua Amata was yesterday elected to serve as American Samoa’s non-voting Delegate to the U.S. House, unseating longtime incumbent, Congressman Faleomavaega Eni. She is the first woman to be elected to represent American Samoa in the U.S. Congress. A veteran campaigner for the Delegate seat, Amata, a declared Republican, now joins the majority GOP controlled U.S. House and the U.S. Senate following yesterday’s mid-term elections across the United States. In yesterday’s election, Amata’s lead began with results from the polling stations in Manu’a, followed by the absentee ballots — which included local and off island ballots as well...

Alaska Democratic Sen. Mark Begich wasn't conceding anything Wednesday in his race against Republican challenger Dan Sullivan. Sullivan held a 3.6 percentage point lead over Begich with all precincts reporting. Thousands of absentee ballots won't be counted until Nov. 11. In a statement Wednesday, Begich campaign manager Susanne Fleek-Green said the campaign wants a final vote count. Republicans said they believe the margin is insurmountable.

After a long day crisscrossing Arkansas in a motorhome, Tom Cotton receives a rock star’s welcome when he walks into the Craighead County Republican Headquarters in northeast Arkansas. He is there to thank volunteers who have been doggedly working the phones to get voters out to the polls. "I've largely played the part I can play," he tells the crowd. "Now, it's up to you." The work Cotton has done since he declared he would challenge incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor has him going into Election Day with a head of steam. The latest Real Clear Politics average has him...
  • Colorado early voting: GOP blows out Dems

Republicans are blowing out Democrats in Colorado early voting, the secretary of State there says. ADVERTISEMENT According to the Associated Press, 104,000 more GOP voters have taken advantage of early voting in Colorado than Democrats. Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) is trailing his Republican opponent, Rep. Cory Gardner, in most polls. A loss by Udall would make it exceedingly difficult for Democrats to retain control of the Senate. Colorado’s Democratic governor, John Hickenlooper, is also in a tight race as he seeks a second term. Historically Democratic voters have long been more likely to stay at home in midterm elections, and...
  • Senate race roundup: Polls say Rounds' lead grows

South Dakota's suddenly tight Senate race is suddenly not so tight again, according to the polls. Still, none of the four candidates has majority support. Polls released in recent days show Republican Mike Rounds with bigger leads than in the previous round of polling. A KELO/Sioux Falls Argus Leader poll conducted Oct. 20-23 showed Rounds with 42 percent support; Democrat Rick Weiland at 33 percent; independent Larry Pressler at 13 percent; and independent Gordon Howie at 2 percent. Another 10 percent of respondents were undecided. An NBC News/Marist poll conducted Oct. 19-23 showed Rounds at 43 percent, Weiland at 29...
  • Senator Udall Jeopardizing Campaign By Appearing to Manipulate Women

Democrats in Colorado have a big problem this election: women. Colorado Senator Mark Udall, the Democrat incumbent, appears to be in particular trouble going into November's elections after running a campaign with a strong focus on women. Back in 2008, Udall won his senatorial seat as a man from a political family who ran a very traditional campaign. He won the seat with ease despite being the candidate who'd had the most money spent against him. Had he utilized a similar strategy this election season, he arguably would be in much better shape now. Instead, this time around, Udall ran...

Things must be going even worse for the Democrats than the polls suggest. The campaign of incumbent Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., for example, has hit rock bottom. How else to explain her lame attempt to blame her electoral peril on racism and sexism? Modern illiberals are incapable of thinking their record or their ideas could lead to misfortune. Landrieu has been in trouble in the polls for weeks now. Indeed, it seems increasingly unlikely she could beat either of her two top Republican challengers head-to-head, although she will almost certainly get the chance against one in a runoff. Desperate, Landrieu...
